Pei Yuming’s face was expressionless. “Dad, give the phone to Yucheng.”

Pei Xianyu could only do as he was told.

Lu Dong’s seat was right after his. Whether he still hadn’t recovered from the fright just now or was calculating something else in his head, he did not dare raise his head. He simply handed over his phone.

Su Jin, beside him, was much more straightforward. She did not even ask why.

Seeing the elders hand theirs over one by one, even though Pei Xiaobei and Lu Zixuan were practically boiling over with questions, they obediently turned in their phones as well.

Pei Yucheng took the six phones over to his elder brother, who was blocking the door. Pei Yuming accepted them and reminded him, “Yours too.”

“I have to hand mine over too?”

“Yes.”

There was no room for negotiation in Pei Yuming’s expression.

Pei Yucheng sighed, took his phone out of his pocket, and gave it to him.

After collecting all the phones, Pei Yuming turned, opened the door, and set them all outside. Then he came back in and locked the door from the inside.

“I know you must all be wondering what’s wrong with me.”

Pei Yuming was not a sociopath. Even though he had experienced something as impossible to explain by common sense as a Flashback to the past, faced with so many silent accusations, he could not remain completely indifferent and uncaring. So he spoke, offering them an explanation.

“I’m looking for something, but I don’t know which of you has it. As long as you cooperate, I promise I won’t hurt anyone.”

Aside from the two younger people, who had no idea what was going on and did not dare interrupt, the others, for once, did not object.

Except his father.

“Looking for something?” Pei Xianyu was still unwilling to let a perfectly good meal turn into this. “That’s hardly a big deal. Just tell us what you’re looking for and we’ll all help you find it. Why scare people with a knife?”

Seeing him keep making trouble, Pei Yuming snapped in irritation, “Enough. Stop talking. We’ll start with you. Bring me your jacket and cloth bag.”

“What for?”

Pei Xianyu refused to cooperate. Especially in front of so many people. Even though, deep down, he was intimidated by Pei Yuming, as a father, being ordered around by his son in public made him feel he was losing face.

Pei Yuming gave his younger brother a look. Though Pei Yucheng had no idea what was going on, he did as he was told.

“Brother, what are you looking for?”

“A small white bottle, four centimeters tall, for vitamins. Check if it’s there.”

Pei Yucheng took all the medicine bottles out of their father’s bag and opened them one by one for his elder brother to confirm. He did not forget to remind him, “Brother, what you’re doing is illegal, isn’t it?”

“That’s none of your business,” Pei Yuming said, not appreciating the warning. “I’ll bear the consequences myself. Just do as I say.”

There was nothing in Pei Xianyu’s jacket or bag.

Pei Yuming waved a hand. “Dad, come here.”

Pei Xianyu rose reluctantly, still muttering under his breath. He was probably cursing someone.

Pei Yuming ignored his father’s expression and personally searched him from head to toe. He found nothing suspicious.

“All right. Go wait in the guest room for a while.”

Pei Xianyu glared at his son and mumbled as if he wanted to say something, but in the end he shook his head and went to the guest room.

Pei Yuming swept his gaze over the dining table. His tone was much gentler than before. “Su Jin, did you bring a bag?”

Su Jin did not make things difficult for him. She readily handed Pei Yuming the handbag she had set on the coffee table. Seeing his hesitation, she unzipped it herself and showed him what was inside.

There was only a car key and a tube of lipstick.

Pei Yuming looked her over. Seeing that she was wearing a fitted dress today without so much as a pocket, he was just about to tell her to go back to her seat when Su Jin spoke first. “Need to search me?”

“No. No need.” Pei Yuming quickly waved it off.

“Hah.” Across the table, Bai Xue gave a derisive laugh. It was unclear whether she was laughing at Su Jin or Pei Yuming.
