Chapter 18
Chapter 18
By the time the police arrived, most of the people in the village had gone insane.
The village chief and the owner of that inn had it the worst. They were clawing at their own hair, tearing at their scalps until they were nearly ripped off.
I rescued Jiang Shuang, and she cried in front of those five coffins for a very long time.
The four shriveled little bodies in those coffins were all Jiang Shuang’s relatives.
At the final moment, it was those five children who broke that evil idol and saved their only surviving sister.
Afterward, I helped Jiang Shuang cremate those four children.
Jiang Shuang’s mother had been buried in the great mountain behind the village. Jiang Shuang had her remains moved out as well, and they were reburied with her brothers and sisters in the cemetery.
After burying her family, Jiang Shuang recovered very quickly. She was like a tenacious little weed that couldn’t be beaten down.
She told me she had family now, and that she would never be lonely again.
She was very grateful to me and wanted to force all the money she’d earned from part-time work into my hands, but I refused.
Not long after, Jiang Shuang returned to university. Her classmates and roommates didn’t despise her at all; everyone was very concerned about her.
After that, we cooperated with the police investigation for several days.
Taken together, it seemed this village had a genetic issue and often had multiple births.
The people in the village had taken advantage of that to keep carrying out feudal superstitious practices.
With the full investigation this time, many of them would likely spend the rest of their lives in prison.
Jiang Shuang’s mother had died before she finished giving birth.
Of the five children taken from her womb, only Jiang Shuang survived.
And the village wasn’t entirely devoid of decent people, just like that woman in the inn.
Someone had secretly swapped Jiang Shuang out and sent her away.
That was also why the Five Ghosts Fortune-Gathering Array at Jiaxing Mall never truly came to fruition, and why the place fell into decline a few years later.
The Sky-Gazing Platform had always hidden behind the scenes. After the Five Ghosts Fortune-Gathering Array failed twenty years ago, they abandoned this place.
The police couldn’t dig up anything on them, but Master Tian and Fan Qian were both arrested.
That Master Tian had heard that Jiaxing Mall was being demolished and wanted to take advantage of the situation, so he secretly moved those five coffins away.
Before he ran into Jiang Shuang, he had originally planned to use the construction workers to fill the coffins. Unfortunately for him, it didn’t work out.
I also applied to meet Master Tian. I had wanted to ask him about the Sky-Gazing Platform.
But he was obviously terrified of that organization and refused to say anything.
So, I asked about myself.
I wanted to know why Fan Qian had said the Sky-Gazing Platform wouldn’t let anyone touch me.
Master Tian thought for a moment, then shook his head. “I don’t know anything else. All I know is this.”
“That Soul-Whip in your hands is something from the Sky-Gazing Platform, and it was once one of the Sky-Gazing Platform’s three greatest treasures.”
I didn’t know what that meant.
But I knew my feud with the Sky-Gazing Platform was far from over.
