Chapter 10
Chapter 10
Just then, Jiang Shuang came back from the restroom.
Her head was lowered, and without saying a word to me, she climbed straight into the car.
I walked over and asked, “Are you hungry? They have boxed meals in the supermarket.”
Jiang Shuang froze. The hand she had braced against the car door made a sharp clack.
Something felt off. “Jiang Shuang, what’s wrong?”
Only then did Jiang Shuang slowly turn her head. Her face was completely blank-no features at all.
In a panic, I reached for the Soul-Whip, but then I suddenly heard Jiang Shuang scream.
The voice was coming from the direction of the restroom.
I had no time to deal with the thing in front of me. I turned and ran toward the restroom.
There was no one else in the women’s restroom at that moment.
I charged straight in. Jiang Shuang was in the stall at the very back.
She was pounding desperately on the stall door. “Help me, Uncle Long, help me! Let me out-”
I reached out to yank the stall door open, only to find there was no handle. It was like a solid slab of wood blocking the way.
I took two steps back and kicked out.
The stall door flew open with a bang, but I didn’t see Jiang Shuang inside.
The crying and pounding that had been right by my ear a moment ago vanished in an instant as well.
“Jiang Shuang-”
I called out, but no one answered.
Then I felt an icy gaze on me.
I looked out through the restroom window and saw Jiang Shuang standing not far away, staring blankly at me.
Her body was under the sunlight, fading little by little.
I was just about to rush out when that faint, drifting fragrance brushed against my nose again, stopping me.
Something was wrong. I turned to look at the restroom stalls.
The stall door I had just kicked open had somehow closed again.
At that moment, inside the cramped restroom, all five stalls stood there with their doors shut tight, silent and still.
A cloud drifted across the sky, temporarily blocking the sun.
As the light dimmed, there were no stalls in the restroom anymore. They were clearly five coffins.
They stood silently upright in the corner, their bright red bodies casting a bloody hue across the restroom floor.
I slowly turned around and drew the Soul-Whip.
Suddenly, a bang came from inside one of the coffins.
It sounded like someone was pounding on the lid.
Immediately after, pounding came from all five coffins.
“Uncle Long! Uncle Long, save me-”
I heard Jiang Shuang’s crying voice again, but it was coming from all five coffins at the same time.
I didn’t know which one was the real Jiang Shuang-or whether all five were.
I tightened my grip on the Soul-Whip. Jiang Shuang’s voice grew weaker and weaker, more and more desperate.
The bang, bang, bang of the pounding felt like it was hammering directly against my chest.
I forced myself to calm down and carefully studied the five coffins. At last, I noticed something was off.
There were no traces of sealing wax around the edge of the coffin in the middle.
Zhang Qing had once said that aside from the empty coffin, the other four had all been sealed shut with wax.
I strode forward and struck the middle coffin with the Soul-Whip.
When sunlight streamed back in, the cramped restroom returned to its original state.
From the middle stall, I rescued the unconscious Jiang Shuang.
