Chapter 69
Chapter 69
“Teaching… is a sacred profession…”
Li Buhai repeated the words, contemplating the meaning within them. His expression grew more solemn than ever.
Countless thoughts passed through his mind as he looked at Yin Rumei.
“Times have changed, and many people have abandoned that old saying. But only human hearts have changed. The truth contained in those words has endured the passage of time,” Yin Rumei said with a soft sigh.
“Of course… I neither know nor intend to reveal Teacher Li’s true background. You may reach your own judgment, Mr. Li.”
She said no more than necessary, but Li Buhai had already understood. He stood and bowed solemnly.
“Thank you, Mrs. Wang. I have learned much from your guidance!”
He turned and left, every doubt gone from his face.
Once downstairs and inside his car, Li Buhai immediately made a call.
“Investigate the Li family at once. Find out whether anyone has ever taken part in the Eclipse Organization’s activities. No matter who is involved-even if it’s my own son-identify them!”
His voice was deadly serious.
“Even if we have to kill half the family, we must ensure that the Li family is clean!”
He remembered Shi Xuan’s words: Those who followed Teacher Li had to be clean.
His resolve was now absolute. He would never allow a few rotten apples to jeopardize the future of the entire Li family.
…
Upstairs, Yin Rumei watched Li Buhai drive away through the floor-to-ceiling window. After a long period of contemplation, she picked up her phone.
“An expert in Mingjiang City is making plans involving that place. Old friends, would any of you be interested in gathering here and taking one more gamble?”
She sent the message.
On the surface, she was a member of the Jiangdong Chamber of Commerce. In truth, she possessed another identity: she was one of the Refugees.
Naturally, the Refugees had a circle of their own.
Normally, they rarely contacted one another. But after witnessing everything inside Mingjiang No. 7 Special School, Yin Rumei had developed other ideas.
“Even Abyss has submitted to you… Are you truly worth another gamble from us?” she murmured.
…
Back at Mingjiang No. 7 Special School, the event had ended and all the cleanup work was complete. Qin Shiyu and Leng Qingyan were both extremely excited.
“Teacher Li, the speech was a tremendous success! Meng Mo did exceptionally well!”
Their performances in their school roles had also grown increasingly natural.
In the past, they had cared far more about their identities as anomaly wielders, along with their backgrounds and origins.
They had never taken their positions as vice principal and academic dean seriously. Those had simply been temporary identities used to cooperate with Li Que’s performance.
But Abyss had now revealed that this form of role-playing might involve an extraordinarily profound realm and contain hidden mysteries. They had adjusted their attitudes and begun fully immersing themselves in their new roles.
“That’s wonderful to hear.”
Li Que looked at Leng Qingyan with relief. “Vice Principal Leng, does this mean the school is safe now?”
Leng Qingyan nodded. “The guests were very satisfied with the school’s development. Before leaving, they said they would support the school even more in the future, and that they were willing to support you as well, Teacher Li!”
Li Que finally relaxed completely.
Excellent.
He was still far short of the Good Teacher Points he needed. The last thing he wanted was to lose his job before becoming an anomaly wielder.
This world was far too dangerous, after all. Anomalies were everywhere.
“Oh, Teacher Li,” Qin Shiyu added, “we discussed the enrollment of that old man Shen Yuan’s grandson. He’ll probably be joining your class when he arrives.”
“Also, for the sake of his descendant, Shen Yuan insisted on becoming the school’s security guard…”
Li Que fell silent.
His expression turned complicated. Was competition really this fierce nowadays?
For the sake of their children, these parents were actually taking jobs at the school?
And not even good jobs, either. Security guard, dorm supervisor…
On second thought, perhaps this was for the best. The more these parents cared about their children’s growth, the more they would support the school’s development.
That would reduce the risk of the school being downsized or closed in the future.
It was a good thing after all.
“There’s one more matter,” Leng Qingyan said at the right moment. “Teacher Li, Deputy Director Shi and Director Xu also want to participate in and support the school’s development. They would like to take nominal positions here…”
She sounded apprehensive.
Li Que merely smiled. “They’re welcome to join us!”
A deputy director and a bureau director-those sounded like important officials.
Even if they held positions in name only, their presence would carry tremendous significance. Not only would Mingjiang No. 7 Special School no longer be in danger of closure, it might even develop further and receive more support.
Leng Qingyan was delighted. “Wonderful!”
“That settles it, then. I need to prepare my lessons,” Li Que said.
To him, the entire affair was merely a minor interruption.
Continuing to teach and provide a proper education was what truly mattered!
Leng Qingyan and Qin Shiyu were filled with emotion as they watched his unruffled figure.
“The balance of power throughout Jiangdong Province has changed completely, and even Shen Yuan has come to pledge his allegiance. Yet Teacher Li seems… not to care at all,” Leng Qingyan said, her expression complicated.
Qin Shiyu sighed softly. “Perhaps compared with everything else he intends to accomplish-everything he is striving toward-these matters truly aren’t worth mentioning.”
An unusual light rippled through her beautiful eyes as countless thoughts and possibilities flashed through her mind.
…
“Brother Shen, come, come! Let me raise a toast to you!”
Inside the security booth, two men were drinking together.
They were Nightmare and Abyss.
Nightmare had nothing better to do, so he had come to make an acquaintance of Abyss.
He had even studied how humans socialized and bought two bottles of liquor for the occasion.
Ordinarily, no one would ever have the chance to approach a wild deity of Abyss’s caliber. Now, however, Abyss had humbled himself. He truly seemed to be learning how to live as an ordinary security guard, and he gladly accepted Nightmare’s invitation.
The liquor had no flavor to them and could not possibly make either of them drunk. Even so, the two mighty anomalies put on an enthusiastic performance of becoming thoroughly tipsy.
“You can really hold your liquor, little brother! From now on, if anything happens, your big brother has your back!” Shen Yuan said, wiping his mouth with the air of a dependable elder brother.
Nightmare was thrilled.
“You got it! If you ever need anything, just say the word!”
“By the way, Brother Shen, I’ve been meaning to ask. Just what is Teacher Li’s background? I feel like I can’t see through him at all.”
He was extremely curious.
Nightmare had been at the school for quite some time, yet he had never actually met Li Que face-to-face.
Li Que had remained behind the scenes throughout the auditorium incident as well, effortlessly controlling the entire affair without lifting a finger. Nightmare’s curiosity had only intensified.
Shen Yuan lowered his voice. “I can’t say for sure. I don’t know either.”
Meng Yan froze.
“Even you don’t know? Brother Shen, didn’t you meet him?”
Shen Yuan shook his head. “I’ll be honest with you. I couldn’t see Teacher Li’s level at all.”
“When I met him, I even thought he was an ordinary man.”
Meng Yan was astonished. “Then why were you so afraid of him?”
“I wasn’t afraid of him,” Shen Yuan replied. “I was afraid of those two students of his!”
A complicated expression crossed his aged face. “The one eating chips was bad enough, but even the girl with the mirror was there… She… she…”
His voice trailed off, as though he could not find the words. In the end, he released a long sigh.
“Never in my wildest dreams did I imagine I would see her one day…”
Meng Yan stared at him in shock.
He recalled the moment in the auditorium when Bai Lu had glanced at him after he entertained a disrespectful thought about Li Que.
Even then, he had found Bai Lu terrifying.
Only after hearing Shen Yuan speak of her this way did he realize that his understanding might still have been far too limited.
But if the girl with the mirror was already that horrifying, then what about Teacher Li, whom she respected so deeply?
It was beyond imagination.
“When I first came here, I thought the students in the class were at most around my son’s level. Now I find out they’re the greatest prodigies alive, while my son is a complete dunce!”
His expression turned complicated. He suddenly could not understand what gave Meng Mo the right to be their classmate.
…
Room 203 of the boys’ dormitory.
Nian Youyu munched on chips as he looked at Meng Mo.
“What’s wrong, Meng Mo? Aren’t you happy? Today is the day you became a god.”
Meng Mo shook his head.
“So what if I became a god? I couldn’t even defeat that rotten old man Abyss. Sir still had to step in.”
He looked at Nian Youyu. “Fatty, are you actually much stronger than me too?”
Meng Mo could not forget the sight of Nian Youyu shattering Cao Yi’s internal organs and anomalous entity with one final, gentle pat, then swallowing an SS-class anomalous entity in a single bite.
Nian Youyu gave him a foolish grin.
“No. You’re very strong.”
“Have you forgotten? A long time ago… even I couldn’t beat you.”
Meng Mo looked puzzled.
That was true. In the past, he had even enjoyed bullying Nian Youyu and Lin Xiaoyu.
“Becoming a god is only the beginning. You still have a very, very long road ahead of you…” Nian Youyu lowered his head and ate another chip. “But my road was cut off long ago.”
…
Inside the girls’ dormitory, Lin Xiaoyu sighed.
“Big Sister Bai Lu, I suddenly feel… so useless.”
She had thought that after containing divine authority and advancing to SS-class, she would finally be strong enough to help Sir.
But being suppressed by Abyss had dealt her a heavy blow.
Bai Lu continued gazing into her mirror without turning her head.
“In the future, crushing Abyss will be as easy for you as crushing a filthy bug. Don’t be impatient.”
“Big Sister Bai Lu, Abyss seems very afraid of you…” Lin Xiaoyu said.
She had been sitting beside Bai Lu in the auditorium and remembered the scene clearly. When Abyss entered, he had surveyed everyone with contempt. Yet when his gaze passed over Bai Lu, he had snatched it away as though he had been burned.
“Mm,” Bai Lu replied.
“Big Sister Bai Lu, why are you and Sir so good to us? It feels like we’re no use at all…”
For the first time, Bai Lu put away her mirror. Some unknown thought crossed her cold, exquisitely beautiful face.
“You are useful.”
She spoke slowly, enunciating every word.
“It is because of all of you that Sir is a teacher.”
Lin Xiaoyu stared at her blankly.
