Chapter 51
Chapter 51
“Vice Principal Leng, what’s wrong?”
Inside Leng Qingyan’s office, Li Que asked in confusion. If she had sought him out this late at night, it was probably something important.
“Director Xu just called me. He said certain people above us may have designs on the school.”
Leng Qingyan’s expression grew complicated.
“Those people hold extremely high positions. A single sentence from them… can decide the fates of countless others. No matter how capable someone may be, it might not make any difference.”
“So Teacher Li, you may need to prepare early.”
To prevent Guo Shoubo and the others from detecting the message, Xu Changjiang had used an extremely covert method of communication. He had also obscured all crucial information and provided no details.
The data-screening capabilities of this era were far too powerful.
Leng Qingyan therefore knew nothing about Guo Shoubo or Xu Guoguo. She only understood that pressure was coming from above-pressure that even Shi Xuan and Xu Changjiang might be unable to bear.
In their view, however, Li Que was the architect of this entire scheme. A single hint should be enough for him to understand!
Li Que froze.
The upper levels of the government had objections to the school?
He wanted to ask for details, then gently shook his head. Leng Qingyan was vice principal and had connections. The fact that she was willing to reveal even this much classified information was already generous.
Asking too much would be inappropriate.
People inside the bureaucracy always spoke through implication. He was used to it.
But from the severity of Leng Qingyan’s warning, could the school be shut down?
It was possible. Mingjiang No. 7 Special School had very few students. If the authorities truly decided to close it, there was nothing Li Que could do.
Yet how was he supposed to prepare?
If he truly lost his job… there was little anyone could do in the current economic climate.
For now, he could only take things one step at a time.
“Thank you, Vice Principal Leng. I understand.”
Li Que sighed.
“I don’t want to see it happen either… but whatever comes, we’ll face it.”
Leng Qingyan stared at him in shock. Li Que was dismissing the matter so casually?!
Judging by his attitude, even the people above them posed little difficulty for him!
Relief entered her heart.
She already possessed immense confidence in Li Que. If he behaved like this, it meant he had everything under control.
“Teacher Li, if you need anything from us, tell me at any time!”
Li Que nodded. “Thank you, Vice Principal Leng, but there’s nothing for now.”
“I’ll head back. Meng Mo is still writing from memory.”
He forced himself to rally.
A sense of urgency had entered his heart. He needed to earn more Good Teacher Points while he still had the chance. If he accumulated enough to become an anomaly wielder before the school closed, he would have nothing to fear!
Even if he lost this job, he could apply to the city’s Anomaly Suppression Bureau.
Leng Qingyan admired him even more.
The attitude of those above had placed so much pressure on Director Shi that he could barely breathe. Yet Li Que did not care at all. In his eyes, it seemed less important than teaching Meng Mo a few classical poems!
She had to report this to Director Shi and Director Xu immediately so they could stop worrying!
…
Li Que soon returned to his office and found that Meng Mo had vanished. Qin Shiyu was waiting for him instead.
“Dean Qin, what are you doing here…? Where’s Meng Mo?”
Qin Shiyu rose. “His father just took him away. He also finished writing everything from memory and asked me to tell you that he didn’t slack off.”
She handed Meng Mo’s exercise book to Li Que.
He accepted it and glanced through. Meng Mo’s handwriting was awful-pure chicken scratch-but every line had been written correctly.
For an underachiever who usually did nothing but sleep, this was already a rare accomplishment.
Li Que felt quietly gratified.
“His father came to the school?”
He remembered that when he conducted the earlier survey of students’ family situations, Meng Mo had listed only one relative-his father, Great Demon King Meng.
“That’s right,” Qin Shiyu said. “His father is very pleased with his performance at school. He also told me he wants to remain here and supervise his son’s studies.”
“This is his resume. He plans to work at our school.”
As she spoke, Qin Shiyu struggled to suppress her laughter. The situation felt extraordinarily amusing.
She was a mighty S-class anomaly wielder, while Nightmare was an SS-class anomaly with the power of a wild deity. Yet one of them was playing the school dean, while the other had become a stern father hoping his son would succeed.
It felt strangely like playing house as children.
She wondered how Li Que managed to go through this performance every day without laughing.
Li Que accepted the “resume” Qin Shiyu had just prepared. When he saw the position Meng Yan sought, he froze.
Boys’ dormitory supervisor?!
The requirements for this position… were incredibly modest.
He could only sigh at the boundless devotion of parents everywhere!
“Handle it however you see fit, Dean Qin. I have no objections.”
Li Que was only a classroom teacher and had no responsibility for school management. Qin Shiyu was already showing him plenty of respect by asking his opinion because he taught Meng Mo.
Qin Shiyu relaxed. Li Que had given his approval. The matter was settled!
“But you should still discuss it with Vice Principal Leng and the others,” Li Que added.
Qin Shiyu had only recently joined the school. He did not want carelessness on her part to offend anyone.
“All right.”
Qin Shiyu nodded. “Then I’ll go find Vice Principal Leng now, Teacher Li.”
She left immediately.
Li Que picked up Meng Mo’s handwritten poem and examined it again.
“Ding! The host has guided Meng Mo onto the right path. Meng Mo studied diligently. Reward: 30 Good Teacher Points!”
The system’s voice rang out, and Li Que smiled.
Sure enough, sincere effort always brought rewards!
At the same time, he began to reflect. After what had happened with Lin Xiaoyu and Meng Mo, he seemed to have discovered a pattern.
Conventional teaching was useful, but produced very limited results.
To gain large numbers of Good Teacher Points quickly, he needed creative approaches that truly increased his students’ motivation and even influenced their values, producing real and substantial change!
To accomplish that, the four most important words were: teach according to the student.
Lin Xiaoyu had been insecure and timid because of her family circumstances. After Li Que’s home visit secured her family’s support, however, her personality had already improved a great deal.
Meng Mo had received a Dreamcatcher and developed an interest in poems about dreams, awakening his motivation to study.
Come to think of it, rewards were an extremely effective tool for these students. They could help a student form a positive feedback loop.
Once that loop began, the student would grow increasingly confident and proactive.
Li Que immediately set to work. Without hesitation, he typed a line on his computer:
Long-Term Student Development Plan.
…
Inside Leng Qingyan’s office, she took out a spare phone and activated several devices beside her.
The equipment could obscure the IP address and encrypt the call.
She was about to dial when someone knocked on the door.
“Come in.”
Leng Qingyan turned as Qin Shiyu entered.
“Dean Qin, did something happen?”
Qin Shiyu handed her Nightmare’s “resume.”
“Nightmare of the Hall of Anomalies already came to the school. Meng Mo defeated him. He is now willing to remain here and temporarily serve as a dormitory supervisor.”
“I’ll find a way to turn Nightmare and change the Hall’s attitude as much as possible… This may be useful to you.”
Leng Qingyan stared in shock.
Nightmare had been here?
When had that happened? She had not sensed him at all!
And Meng Mo had actually defeated him?
Was Meng Mo truly that powerful?
Leng Qingyan felt dazed. Xu Changjiang and the others had been worried that Li Que might struggle to handle Nightmare’s arrival.
Yet Nightmare had been dealt with by Li Que’s student without even seeing Li Que himself?
And now he was willing to stay at the school as… a dormitory supervisor?!
This was absurd. Far too absurd!
No one would believe it if they heard!
“I already asked Teacher Li for his opinion. He agreed,” Qin Shiyu added.
Leng Qingyan’s expression became indescribably complicated. She accepted the resume and studied it, paying particular attention to the feather attached to the page.
The anomalous aura it emitted was enough to make her heart tremble.
Qin Shiyu was not lying.
Leng Qingyan drew a deep breath.
“All right!”
“I’ll report all of this to our superiors.”
Qin Shiyu nodded and left.
…
Not long afterward, Xu Changjiang’s phone rang inside a moving car. He answered it, then abruptly went pale and slammed on the brakes, stopping at the roadside.
Shi Xuan nearly flew out of the back seat. He hurriedly steadied himself and stared gravely at Xu Changjiang.
The call soon ended.
“What happened?” Shi Xuan asked urgently.
Xu Changjiang wore an extremely complicated expression.
“Director Shi… Nightmare went to Mingjiang No. 7 Special School.”
“What?!”
Shi Xuan had not expected the Hall of Anomalies to move so quickly.
“Is Li Que still alive?!”
“He’s alive and perfectly well,” Xu Changjiang replied.
Delight entered Shi Xuan’s face. “Li Que defeated him?”
Xu Changjiang shook his head. “No…”
Shi Xuan grew anxious. “Then what happened?”
Xu Changjiang sighed with emotion.
“Nightmare followed Qin Shiyu to Mingjiang No. 7 Special School. But he never encountered Li Que. He only met one of Li’s students, Meng Mo.”
“Meng Mo… suppressed Nightmare.”
“And Nightmare has now chosen to remain at Mingjiang No. 7 Special School as an employee…”
Shi Xuan was stunned. He suddenly understood why Xu Changjiang had reacted so strongly and slammed on the brakes.
“His student… defeated Nightmare?!”
Disbelief covered Shi Xuan’s face.
Nightmare was an SS-class great anomaly with the power of a wild deity!
Yet he had been defeated and even switched sides to remain at Mingjiang No. 7 Special School. Did that mean Meng Mo had beaten him into complete submission?!
Just how powerful was Li Que’s student?
Shi Xuan already knew that every student in Li’s class was an anomaly above S-class, but this was still unbelievable. Could the students in one class truly be this monstrous?!
And if the students were this terrifying, then Li Que, their teacher…
What level had he reached?!
Shi Xuan was shaken to his core. He scarcely dared imagine it.
The Anomaly Wielders’ Alliance and other factions all believed Li Que had only granted divine investiture successfully at Five Dragons Mountain by relying on a Divine Seal Fragment. Every side underestimated his personal strength.
That was understandable. Every step along the path of an anomaly wielder was extraordinarily difficult. Once someone reached A-class, they had to pledge themselves to an organization. Fighting alone offered no future whatsoever.
How strong could an unaffiliated anomaly wielder like Li Que possibly become, no matter how gifted he was?
Even Shi Xuan had begun to waver after meeting Guo Shoubo and Xu Guoguo. Perhaps Li Que’s true strength was not that impressive after all.
But now…
His entire understanding had been overturned!
“No wonder… No wonder he dared set such an enormous game in motion,” Shi Xuan murmured. “Every one of us underestimated him!”
Xu Changjiang continued, “Director Shi, does Li Que now possess the qualifications… to make those people in the capital take him seriously?”
This mattered greatly to him.
Li Que’s strength had repeatedly shattered everyone’s understanding. Yet no matter how powerful an individual became, they still appeared insignificant before a behemoth like the Anomaly Wielders’ Alliance.
If no one inside the organization stood up for Li Que, Xu Guoguo and her deputy-leader grandfather could target him without restraint.
Even if Li Que survived, they would strip away a layer of his skin and bury him beneath endless trouble.
If a high-ranking figure inside the Alliance supported him, however, his position would truly become secure.
Shi Xuan nodded solemnly.
“I’ll contact the people I know immediately. Their families possess old graves as well, and they’re far more principled. If they speak, the Xu family won’t dare behave recklessly!”
