Chapter 60
Chapter 60
On Mingjiang No. 1 Bridge in Mingjiang City, Qin Shiyu watched countless meter-long behemoths thrash through the water below. If the local anglers could see this, they might grow excited enough to jump in after them.
But Qin Shiyu was terrified.
A dreadful shadow was slowly approaching. It had already enveloped her.
She forced herself to look up and saw only a black silhouette as vast as a mountain.
She could not discern the creature’s form. She could not begin to estimate the upper limit of his aura.
Qin Shiyu felt as though even her Sovereign Seal was suffocating. Before such absolute suppression, there was little difference between an S-class powerhouse and an ordinary person.
Abyss had not truly entered Mingjiang City yet.
But his projection alone was enough to suppress an S-class.
Qin Shiyu knew that he had already noticed her. She struggled to lift her gaze.
“I am Qin Shiyu of the Hall of Anomalies. My teacher was Xu Buzhou. He once tried to help you by giving an anomaly humanity… I would like to speak with you.”
“There may be another path for you in Mingjiang City.”
She invoked the past.
Years ago, her teacher had advocated giving anomalies humanity and following a different path. The subject of his experiment had been an anomaly connected to Abyss.
Her teacher had failed, but Xu Buzhou and Abyss had crossed paths before. Perhaps that history would give her some right to negotiate.
The only answer was the cold, desolate river water.
It rose over the tops of her feet, bringing a bone-deep chill. Suddenly, she understood his meaning.
“For Xu Buzhou’s sake, I won’t kill you.”
“Get lost.”
Qin Shiyu’s expression darkened. She bit her lip, but turned and left at once.
If he refused to listen, Li Que would have to confront Abyss directly.
She had to return and warn Li Que to prepare.
Qin Shiyu floored the accelerator. The engine roared through the silent, rain-soaked night.
…
“Immortality through shadow! So this is what it feels like! Hahaha! I have merged completely into shadow. Who can touch me now?”
In the darkness, Cao Yi sat upon the throne of shadow and laughed in wild triumph.
Then a sudden palpitation seized him. Cao Yi looked down and discovered that the shadows beneath his feet had somehow transformed into venomous snakes.
They were devouring him one bite at a time.
“No!”
Cao Yi cried out in horror. What was happening?
He tried to fight back, but all strength had left his body. He collapsed as the snakes coiled around him.
He twisted, struggled, and screamed. At last, even his voice vanished when a snake burrowed into his throat.
…
“The Water God’s Authority! The Zuo family finally has a Water God of its own!”
Zuo Yuanshan and Zuo Qingyun stared fervently ahead.
Zuo Qingyun’s grandfather had transformed from ashes into a luminous white dragon. It swam through the air, radiant and divine.
“With the Water God’s Authority, the Zuo family finally has what it needs to survive the age of the Black Mist Calamity!”
Zuo Yuanshan was beside himself with relief.
The white dragon suddenly turned. Crimson blood began flowing from its eyes.
“What? Grandfather!”
Zuo Qingyun cried out in alarm and prepared to call to him, but the dragon opened its bloody maw and swallowed him whole!
“Qingyun!”
Zuo Yuanshan’s eyes nearly split apart.
“Father… What are you doing?!”
The blood flowing from the white dragon’s eyes grew even more eerie and horrifying. It shot toward Zuo Yuanshan and spewed a cloud of black mist.
Zuo Yuanshan’s entire body rotted in an instant. He let out a piercing scream.
“What happened? Why would I kill my own descendants?!”
The white dragon suddenly returned to human form, becoming a vaguely outlined old man filled with remorse.
“How could this happen? How could this happen?!”
He stared at the bodies of his son and grandson, almost breaking down completely. At the same time, black maggots began crawling from his mouth one after another.
“What’s happening to me? Am I dying? What I swallowed wasn’t the Water God’s Authority-it was black mist?!”
His body suddenly shattered apart.
…
Every member of the Li family stood before the coffin.
Blood streamed from their wrists into its interior.
Suddenly, pounding came from inside, as though something were about to emerge.
“Excellent… The ancestor’s anomalous entity must be coming out!”
“I heard his anomalous entity was a mummified corpse with an extraordinary origin…”
Li Dao and the others watched with feverish anticipation.
If they could recover that corpse, they could build an old grave of their own. In time, they might stand beside the Old-Grave Clans of the capital.
“Rise!”
Li Buhai roared and rushed forward, wrenching open the black coffin.
A hand covered in black fur shot out, seized him by the throat, and dragged him inside!
Eerie chewing immediately filled the coffin, accompanied by Li Buhai’s screams.
“How can this be…?”
The others were terrified. What kind of monster was inside that coffin?
“Run!”
They panicked and tried to flee, but the coffin moved with shocking speed, hunting every one of them down.
…
“So this is a godhood ritual through dreams…”
Elsewhere, Yin Rumei murmured to herself. After a moment’s thought, she said,
“I don’t know how you accomplished this, but since you’ve come this far… I’ll give you an S-class dream. Consider it a gesture of goodwill.”
Then she closed her eyes.
…
“Hahahaha! The Divine Seal Fragment! I have it! I really have it!”
Elsewhere, Sun Xingsheng shouted in wild delight.
“All right. You can wake up now,” Nightmare said with a faint smile. “That should be enough.”
Sun Xingsheng’s eyes flew open.
He looked around and discovered himself sitting safe and sound inside the auditorium.
Cao Yi, Li Dao, Li Buhai, Zuo Yuanshan, and the others all sat around him.
“Every last one of them is dreaming. Nightmare has them all under his control!”
Sun Xingsheng laughed. “Excellent! Hahaha!”
Now he not only possessed the Divine Seal Fragment, but could control this many S-class powerhouses through Nightmare.
He could establish a faction even stronger than the Hall of Anomalies!
“What happened…?”
Beside him, Cao Yi suddenly woke.
Yin Rumei, Li Buhai, Zuo Yuanshan, and the others awakened at the same moment.
“Were we… inside a dream?” Li Buhai asked in utter shock. “There’s another anomaly here capable of pulling all of us into dreams?!”
Yin Rumei’s expression grew complicated.
“This is the other party’s godhood ritual. Our sweetest dreams and our worst nightmares have become his nourishment.”
Everyone stared in stunned disbelief.
What?
Everything they had just experienced-their beautiful dreams intertwined with terrible nightmares-had been nothing more than one step in someone else’s godhood ritual?!
