Chapter 48
Chapter 48
Rao Lin also had a fever.
However, a brute like him could still be lively and kicking even with a high temperature.
Rao Lin frowned. “I thought my head hurt because I slept too much.”
When the Butler left, he had nonchalantly told the guests to go downstairs for breakfast as soon as possible. Just like when Zhang Qicheng died, it was as if the death of a person was no big deal.
They returned to Luo Li’s room to prevent any accidents from happening to the two sick patients. Ning Wang stayed behind to keep an eye on them.
Luo Li didn’t look well, but at least she was conscious.
Qi Yang, on the other hand, was dazed. “King, my head is so dizzy…”
Luo Li replied, “Once we’re outside, you can call me ‘King’ as much as you want. That ‘Good Guy’ brother is still here; be careful, the walls have ears.”
Qi Yang gave a soft “Oh.”
Items in the System shop were all single-use. Ning Shuo wanted to suggest exchanging for ten first and keeping the rest in the Backpack.
Then, Rao Lin waved his hand and hoarded ninety-nine Thermometers before exchanging for a convenient Temperature Gun for Song Zhu. “I just like the number 99.”
Luo Li said expressionlessly, “You weren’t this generous when you insisted on staying in Paradise just to lose face for those ten thousand Points.”
After checking their temperatures, they found that everyone’s fever was roughly at the same level, even Rao Lin’s.
The reason Rao Lin hadn’t noticed was simply because he was as reckless as a bull, and once he realized Song Zhu had a fever, he completely ignored his own condition.
When they discovered Li Ge’s body earlier, all the Players had gathered briefly. At a glance, the other Players seemed to be in good condition.
In other words, the only ones who had fallen ill were the “Good Guys” from yesterday.
Or perhaps, accumulating Good Deed Points each day meant falling ill the next.
Unless one did something bad to offset it, but offsetting it would attract monsters.
In the end, the group discussed it and decided to take turns being the “Good Guy.”
Consequently, Rao Lin kept holding Song Zhu’s hand, claiming that if he didn’t hold it now, it would be too late to do so later.
As they were packing up to head downstairs, Ning Wang suddenly pulled him back. “Look.”
He pointed behind Luo Li’s ear.
Luo Li had long, slightly wavy hair. When it hung loose, no one noticed that spot, but as she brushed it behind her ear while getting out of bed, Ning Wang spotted something wrong.
Seeing this, everyone stopped in their tracks. Ning Wang reached out to pull Luo Li’s hair aside.
It wasn’t obvious, but several red lines could be seen behind her ear.
They looked like the color of a rose, only very faint, almost invisible.
Rao Lin frowned and looked at Song Zhu. He stared for a long while before discovering that Song Zhu also had a few extremely faint lines behind his ear.
Rao Lin’s brow furrowed deeper. Finally, the six of them checked each other; only Ning Shuo and Ning Wang didn’t have them.
Seeing this, Ning Shuo pondered for a moment and said, “I have an idea, but I’ll need the whole morning.”
When they went down for breakfast, the King was indeed there.
His complexion looked much better than yesterday. If he had looked like a critically ill patient during their first meeting, the second time was like he had just left the ICU, and this time, he looked as if he were about to be discharged.
It was as if he had suddenly regained his vitality.
Perhaps because his health had improved significantly, the King stayed longer this time. He even just smiled and offered reminders when people whispered, not even recording any Evil Deed Points.
As the King prepared to leave, Ning Shuo said respectfully, “King, I would like to go out and help tend to the gorgeous roses. I trust the King will not refuse my sincerity.”
Ning Shuo smiled and added, “Seeking your permission shouldn’t count as going out without authorization, right?”
“Will the King refuse my kindness?”
The King remained silent for a long time before finally revealing a smile, though it looked malicious. “Since the guest wishes to go out, of course you may.”
“However, you must be accompanied by a Servant to prevent the guest from making a mistake and damaging the delicate roses while claiming to be acting out of kindness.”
His words were pointed, seemingly referring to the incident yesterday where Ning Shuo had caused a maid to fall. “Even if it is out of the goodness of one’s heart, it is not acceptable if the outcome is bad.”
Oh, the NPC had just patched the bug where bad deeds were framed as good intentions in real-time.
Ning Wang had intended to go out with Ning Shuo, but the King spoke up. “Since this gentleman possesses such kindness, let him handle it alone.”
One person, tending to a field of roses that stretched almost as far as the eye could see.
While he didn’t have to finish pruning everything, Ning Shuo wouldn’t have a moment’s rest under the watchful eye of an NPC.
The King departed. Ning Wang wanted to say something, but Ning Shuo pressed a hand over his, whispering, “I’ll have a fever tomorrow. Be careful today and don’t let anything happen to you.”
He gave a small smile. “Tomorrow, I’ll be waiting for Ningning to protect me.”
Ning Wang frowned. “Then make sure you don’t die of your illness tomorrow.”
“Try saying something nice for once.”
Before the gates of the Ancient Castle opened, Xiao Wei handed him a hat.
It was a wide-brimmed hat with a veil hanging from the edges, looking no different from an ancient Gauze Hat.
This only served as further proof that there was something wrong with the sky during the day; one needed to be prepared like this when going out to avoid being seen.
He took the hat and straightened it, his movements appearing as if he were merely brushing dust off the brim. “Sister, I don’t really know much about pruning flower branches. I’ll need your help.”
Xiao Wei had a very favorable impression of his face-not just because he was handsome, but because Ning Wang had helped her yesterday.
Facing an identical face, Xiao Wei didn’t mind offering a smile.
Despite being above the clouds, the sun was scorching.
The cloud layer was burning hot, and beads of sweat the size of beans were already forming on Ning Shuo’s forehead.
Xiao Wei stayed by his side, never leaving. Ning Shuo discreetly shifted his direction and then let out a cry of surprise. “Eh! Why is there a weed over there?”
He reached down toward the clouds, but he had only managed to pull back half of the surface before his hand was seized. “Guest, please do not push aside the ‘soil.’ It will harm the delicate roots of the roses. Furthermore, our flower field has no weeds.”
…He had never heard of a plant with such vigorous growth having “delicate” roots.
Xiao Wei’s grip was incredibly strong. Ning Shuo naturally withdrew his hand. “So that’s how it is. I must have seen incorrectly.”
“Guest, you indeed saw incorrectly.”
“…” Fine then, she even stripped away the “must have” he had used as a cover.
Even with the hat on, the weather was so clear that despite wearing only a single layer of clothing, Ning Shuo could still feel his clothes being soaked with sweat.
It wasn’t until noon that he returned to the Ancient Castle. When he returned the Gauze Hat to Xiao Wei, he brushed the brim again. “I hope this hat didn’t get dirty.”
Xiao Wei smiled. “Guest, the roses are holy. There will be no filth.”
Xiao Wei left, and Ning Wang handed him a prepared ice pack. “How was it?”
Ning Shuo’s face was flushed red. He pressed the ice pack against his cheek. “Flawless.”
Because four players had fallen ill-and all four had been the previous day’s Good Persons-the players today had noticed a pattern. They were extremely hesitant when choosing whether or not to help.
However, the maids sought them out for help with minor chores that the maids themselves would also participate in. The players didn’t dare refuse.
In the end, several more people became today’s Good Persons for various reasons. This included Ning Shuo, who had intentionally taken on all the work for three other people from the start, and Rao Lin, who had shielded Song Zhu by taking on all the tasks himself.
Facing Qi Yang’s expression, which was so moved he was almost in tears, Ning Shuo patted his shoulder. “Stay loyal to your King.”
Qi Yang nodded frantically.
Ning Wang hefted the ice pack in his hand. “Do you still want this or not?”
