Chapter 2

World War III had broken out upstairs again. I rolled out of bed, changed with practiced speed, grabbed my tools, and headed up.

Standing outside 802, I pressed my ear to the door and listened for movement. After a moment of estimation, I figured this probably wasn’t going to end anytime soon.

So I sneakily tied the clothes hanger I’d brought upstairs to the door. After all, I’d taken the guy’s money. I had to do something, right?

There. No way they were getting out now. I patted the door, which I’d bound up tight as could be, and felt extremely satisfied.

“What are you doing?”

A clear male voice suddenly sounded behind me.

I jumped and spun around in a panic.

The man was still wearing that black trench coat, his eyes dark as ink as he walked toward me at an unhurried pace. As handsome as ever.

The only difference was that the green glow hovering over his head nearly blinded me.

Working overtime at the office late at night to make money, only for his wife to cheat on him. How pitiful.

A trace of sympathy slipped into my gaze as I looked at him.

“What are you doing?”

He stopped in front of me and repeated the question.

I chuckled. “Boss, I’m blocking the door.”

He raised an eyebrow. “Boss?” Then, as if remembering something, he swept his gaze over me from head to toe, amusement in his eyes. “So you’re that muscular macho man?”

My profile picture was, indeed, a muscular macho man. I’d changed it a while back to negotiate renovation materials for my new place.

And honestly? After I switched it, communication got so much more efficient that I couldn’t bear to change it back.

I nodded with utmost sincerity and even flexed the muscle on my arm for him. “Don’t let my frail appearance fool you. I’m a woman who’s studied combat.”

After saying that, I thought about all the possible scenes that might unfold when we caught them in the act. Who knew what this handsome guy’s fighting ability was like? He might end up needing my help. So I added, “Boss, if you need me for anything later, just say the word. I won’t hesitate.”

Exactly. He’d have to pay extra.

Suddenly, he bent down and leaned toward me, his breath drawing closer and closer.

My breathing hitched. I had no idea how to react. Inside, I was screaming: What are you trying to do? I know your wife cheated on you, but that doesn’t mean you can act recklessly!

I was just about to push him away when, in the next second, he reached out and pushed me to the side instead.

He deftly lifted the rug I’d been standing on, took out the key hidden beneath it, and said flatly, “No need.”

I went wooden. “Oh.”

Understandable. Men were like that. Pride mattered more than life.

I said, “Then my mission is complete. I’m leaving?”

Though I felt regretful, I still chose to respect other people’s privacy.

The handsome guy nodded, and I turned to leave.

The next second, his voice sounded behind me again. “Wait.”

My eyes lit up, and I turned back around.

The handsome guy pointed at the hanger and rope I’d just tied to the door. “Take that down before you go.”

Oh.

I silently edged over and untied everything.

Once I was done, the handsome guy inserted the key and knocked on the door twice.

Yes, I saw that correctly. He really did knock twice. I witnessed it with my own perfect-vision eyes.

My eyes widened as I looked at him in disbelief for the first time.

Was this some kind of pre-cheating-catch ritual?

Did this guy have a screw loose?

He was about to catch his wife cheating, and he still knocked first to let her know he was coming?

So his wife could hurry up and get dressed, and quickly hide the adulterer?

Did this guy even know how to catch someone in the act?

I wanted to say something, but stopped myself.

The handsome guy seemed to notice, but he ignored me.

Under my incredulous stare, he calmly opened the door and went inside, then leisurely changed into a pair of slippers.

The corner of my mouth twitched.

This man was really good at enduring things. He was already green from head to toe, yet he still had the leisure to change shoes. He didn’t even close the door.

According to the usual cheating-catch routine, wasn’t he supposed to rush into the bedroom first and catch the adulterous pair red-handed?

The bedroom door opened, and a woman in a sexy spaghetti-strap nightgown hurried out in a panic.

When she saw the handsome guy standing in the living room, the panic on her face swiftly transformed into a perfectly measured smile, making her look exactly like a virtuous wife and loving mother.

“Zhou… Zhou Moshang, why are you-”

So the handsome guy’s name was Zhou Moshang. What a nice name.

But spouses addressing each other so distantly? No wonder she cheated.
