Chapter 1
Chapter 1
When I transmigrated here, the villain Gu Yi had cut his wrists again.
Gu Yi’s arch-enemy, Xie Xun, had placed first on an exam and then won first prize in some major competition.
Gu’s Mother, eaten up by resentment and jealousy, slapped Gu Yi in public, then kicked him out of the villa and left him to fend for himself.
When Gu’s Mother was young, she had been in love with Father Xie, but she couldn’t beat Mother Xie. Nursing that hatred, she married Gu Yi’s father instead-a man in his forties.
The man was old, but he liked them young. Outside the marriage, he had a mistress, and then another, and then another.
Gu’s Mother was broken and powerless, so she vented all her dissatisfaction with life on Gu Yi.
Gu Yi had no strength left to hate his mother, and he truly couldn’t beat the male lead, so he spent all his energy tormenting himself instead.
That brat really had a vicious hand. Once, he nearly severed the tendons in his wrist and almost crippled himself.
But in Gu’s Mother’s eyes, that was a sign of rebellion.
Not only did she feel no sympathy for Gu Yi, she slapped him across the face.
“Playing with knives, are you? You’re already this old. Do you still not know what you should and shouldn’t play with? If you don’t want to live, then go die. You can’t compare to Xie Xun in your studies, and you can’t even compare to him as a person. What use is there in you being alive?”
What Gu Yi didn’t know was that Gu’s Mother didn’t actually dare let him die.
Although Gu’s Father ignored him, Grandpa Gu valued Gu Yi highly. Every month, he transferred living expenses to Gu’s Mother’s card on time and reminded her to raise Gu Yi well. In the future, he would give Gu Yi twenty percent of the shares.
Because of that promise-and even more so because of her own vanity-Gu’s Mother pushed Gu Yi like her life depended on it.
But the harder Gu Yi worked, the more miserable he became.
He studied sixteen hours a day. Apart from washing up, eating, and using the bathroom, he slept less than six hours, and he still couldn’t beat Heaven’s chosen son, Xie Xun.
Gu Yi worked diligently and remained eternal second place. Xie Xun barely lifted a finger and still dominated first place.
Gu Yi was already spiraling, yet Gu’s Mother kept winding him tighter, and tighter, and tighter still.
Finally, Gu Yi snapped and discovered the pleasure of self-harm.
From then on, every few days, he would do it again, savoring the thrill of abusing himself.
As for why he went against Xie Xun later, it was probably because he just wanted to beat Xie Xun once. Even one victory would have been enough to disperse the obsession in his heart.
But he was the villain, so he was fated to lose.
But that was fine. I was here now.
I was the female lead. Even if I was the female lead of an angst novel, I was still the female lead. My halo was strong as hell.
Besides, I figured, how bad could a villain be if he could drive himself into depression?
Real villains tortured other people-like the male lead, Xie Xun.
When I was reading the book and saw the way Xie Xun treated the female lead, Lin Shiran, I wanted nothing more than to kill that bastard.
And then I transmigrated here, which meant I could personally experience the joy of killing that bastard myself.

The villain was rich, but depressed.
I was poor, and worse, I was the heroine of an angst novel.
