Chapter 70

Han Yifan’s broad frame trembled when he heard Qin Lan’s promise. His voice was hoarse. “Mr. Qin, thank you…”

Being addressed as “Mr. Qin” left Qin Lan deeply uncomfortable.

It felt as though a thick wall had suddenly risen between them.

“Uncle Han, just call me Little Qin,” Qin Lan said helplessly. “You looked after me so many times when you lived here. I remember all of it.”

“I became an Anomaly Hunter. I didn’t become a different person.”

Han Yifan’s cracked lips moved, but in the end, he could not force out the words “Little Qin.”

To him, Qin Lan was a lofty Anomaly Hunter, a member of the Anomaly Hunter Bureau that ordinary people regarded with fear and awe. He now belonged to the upper ranks of Safe Zone society.

If Han Yifan had not run out of options, he might never have dared knock on Qin Lan’s door.

“Come on, Uncle Han. Give me the hospital’s address.”

Qin Lan’s tone was gentle, but his eyes were ice-cold. “I’d like to see who thinks they can stop me.”

…

Qianshan Hospital, Safe Zone 088.

It was one of the Qian Group’s businesses and the most famous private hospital in Safe Zone 088.

Most of the Safe Zone’s wealthy and powerful came here for treatment and recuperation, giving the hospital an intricate web of powerful connections.

Today, Qianshan Hospital welcomed its most uncompromising father yet.

“This is the place?”

Qin Lan looked up at the prominent Qian Group logo above the hospital entrance. A cold sneer spread openly across his face.

“Of course. It’s you people again…”

“Qian Group, I was worried I wouldn’t find an excuse to come after you. Then you delivered one right to my door…”

The Qian Group’s future heir, Qian Youquan, had hired someone to hunt Qin Lan down. The group had then arranged another attempt on his life.

Qin Lan had carried that anger ever since, waiting for the moment he could finally unleash it.

Now he had joined the ranks of 3-Star Anomaly Hunters. Within the Safe Zone, he belonged to the strongest tier beneath Lu Xingshan himself. No one could force him to remain silent any longer.

The beast that had lain low for so long would finally bare its fangs to the world.

Several men were crouched near the hospital entrance, smoking. They spotted Qin Lan–or rather, Han Yifan behind him.

They exchanged looks, then rose with hostile expressions and approached.

Han Yifan instinctively tried to retreat. These were the same men who had threatened him and beaten him out of the hospital. Injuries still covered his body.

Qin Lan stepped in front of him first.

“Han, you’re back to cause trouble again?”

The leader had a vicious face and cruelty in his eyes. “How many damn times do we have to tell you? Your daughter had bad luck. It has nothing to do with our hospital!”

“Come back for another beating?”

He took two aggressive steps forward, glanced at Qin Lan, and scowled. “And where did this little brat come from?”

“Get lost!”

The man swung a hand straight at Qin Lan’s face.

Bang!

The beautifully decorated glass doors of Qianshan Hospital shattered. A figure flew into the outpatient lobby like a cannonball, crashed into a registration counter, and smashed through the small window behind it.

The tremendous commotion instantly caused an uproar.

“My God! What happened?”

“Is there a war going on? Who fired a cannon?”

“Wait, something just flew inside… Is that a person?”

Before the stunned eyes of countless patients and family members, the man who had tried to strike Qin Lan sagged like a pile of mud. A small amount of bloody foam mixed with fragments of organs trickled from his mouth and nose.

Then he stopped breathing.

His body looked as though it had been hit by a truck.
Half the bones in his body had shattered, and a basketball-sized crater had caved in his chest.

Bang! Bang!

Several more dull impacts rang out. More men flew into the lobby, every one of them suffering the same fate as the first. Their bones snapped and muscles tore, and they were dead within seconds.

Everyone who witnessed the bloody scene was terrified senseless. They stood trembling in place, unable even to run.

Every person there could feel a suffocating presence rolling in from outside the lobby.

These residents of the city rarely encountered anything like killing intent. Most had only heard the phrase in novels or movies.

Today, they experienced its bone-chilling cold firsthand.

It froze the blood in their veins and left their minds completely blank.

Outside the entrance, Han Yifan stared at Qin Lan in shock, as though looking upon a god descended from the heavens.

The thugs who had been so vicious moments ago had been sent flying more than ten meters by a single kick.

Such terrifying strength was more astonishing than anything in a science-fiction movie.

“Uncle Han, just stay behind me.”

Qin Lan spoke calmly and stepped into the outpatient lobby, carrying an oppressive presence that made breathing difficult.

“As long as I’m here, no one can touch you.”

Han Yifan jolted, answered quickly, and hurried after Qin Lan.

At last, someone sensed that something was wrong, mustered the courage to take out a phone, and began recording.

Qin Lan glanced at them without the slightest intention of stopping them.

Let them record. The greater the uproar, the better.

“Who are you?!”

“Security! Security! Stop that man!”

As one of the Qian Group’s important businesses, Qianshan Hospital naturally had a highly paid security team employed by the group.

The guards were not Anomaly Hunters, but all of them had trained in Curse Codices. Their cultivation, however, was only around Tier 1.

That was nothing unusual.

Most people encountered Curse Codices in college, though the ones available to them were generally low in quality.

Their strength was equally mediocre.

They did not qualify for positions with the United Government, leaving private security firms as their only option.

The guards, who had been laughing and chatting in the security room moments ago, now streamed into the lobby.

They immediately saw Qin Lan advancing toward them.

They tried to activate their Talents, only to be overcome by a fear unlike anything they had experienced before.

They had not felt such terror even when confronting the horrifying anomalies of the Fallen Zone years ago.

Qin Lan looked like nothing more than a young man who had not fully shed his youth. Yet in their eyes, he resembled a mass of dense, pure curse energy twisted together into human form.

Qin Lan lowered his eyes. A single sweep of his gaze sent a chill through every guard.

“Anyone who blocks me dies.”

His voice was calm, yet it sounded like Death’s whisper.

No one doubted the truth of his words.

Under countless watching eyes, Qin Lan walked straight between the trembling guards.

Everyone held their breath, afraid that even one exhalation might provoke this terrifying man into attacking.

They earned barely more than a dozen supply coins a month. That was nowhere near enough to die for.

Only after Qin Lan and Han Yifan disappeared into the distance did the guards finally relax. One after another, they collapsed to the ground like deflated balloons.

The full oppressive aura of a 3-Star Anomaly Hunter, combined with Qin Lan’s amplified Spirit stat of over 30, was enough to shatter a person’s composure with a single glance.

“Hurry… Report this!”

“This is bad! Someone terrifying is here!”

“Contact the director immediately!”

“The Ghost King? I’d say we’re about evenly matched. I solo-kill it all the time, too.”

So said Qin Lan, fresh out of a max-star horror instance.
