Chapter 56

The students and teachers outside were even more shocked than Liang Yu.

They had just witnessed Qin Lan’s entire “friendly conversation” with the orderly.

First, Qin Lan kicked open the seemingly impenetrable iron door. Then he strolled out of the ward as though he were browsing a supermarket, looked around, casually chose a direction, and walked away.

“He… He just kicked it open?”

“Was that really an iron door? It wasn’t made of paper, was it…?”

“What kind of strength is that? I don’t think he’s human. No human could do that!”

“I understand! Maybe that’s his Talent!”

The students had never seen anything like it. Shock swept through the crowd as discussions erupted.

Then the announcement sounded, and an enormous mass of flesh appeared in the dark corridor, nearly filling it from wall to wall.

[Orderly: Old Liu (1-Star)]

Huge muscles covered the anomaly’s entire body. His orderly uniform had long since burst apart, leaving only strips of cloth hanging from him.

His face was twisted and compressed by bulging muscle until his features were almost impossible to distinguish.

“There it is! A 1-Star anomaly!”

“Open your eyes and watch carefully. This will be valuable experience when you face the college entrance examination! These anomalies were recreated from real instance data at full strength!”

“Study how the elite students handle this situation!”

“When you encounter an anomaly, the first thing you must do is identify his type, then avoid confronting him head-on–”

Teachers from every school immediately called their students’ attention to the screen.

The next second, Qin Lan strolled up to Orderly: Old Liu, tilted his head back, and wore an expression that practically begged to be punched.

“Old man, have you ever seen a fist as big as a sandbag?”

Then he swung one simple, unremarkable punch.

The instant his fist struck the anomaly’s head, a terrifying thud shook the corridor.

“Hmm? You’re tougher than I expected.”

Qin Lan was mildly surprised.

He had deliberately restrained his strength to avoid killing the anomaly in one blow, but he had underestimated just how thick Old Liu’s hide was.

Orderly: Old Liu howled in pain. Before half the cry could leave his mouth, another fist struck his head.

Qin Lan’s third punch arrived before he could react.

After three punches, Old Liu fell into a sleep as peaceful as a baby’s–although waking up might prove difficult.

“Not bad. An anomaly who can survive three of my punches has something to brag about to his coworkers.”

Qin Lan nodded approvingly, stepped over the bloated body, and continued down the corridor without another glance.

Silence engulfed the audience outside.

“Teacher, didn’t you say we should avoid confronting it head-on?”

“How are we supposed to learn from that…?”

“The world of elite students is terrifying. I want to go home…”

The teachers looked equally lost and even wondered whether the feed was malfunctioning.

A student had knocked out a 1-Star anomaly with a few punches?

That sounded like nonsense even as they watched it happen.

Meanwhile, the principals of No. 1 and No. 2 High Schools had been smiling proudly as their own students distinguished themselves.

After a brief stunned silence, both turned furious glares on Fatty Wu.

“Fuck! You shameless bastard! That’s a student?”

“Wu! You’re cheating!”

Fatty Wu immediately grew vigilant and thrust out his neck in defiance.

“Bullshit! How am I cheating?”

“His records are all documented and verifiable! Qin Lan is my student!”
The principal of No. 1 High School was a kindly-looking old man with graying hair and beard.

Now his eyes bulged behind his glasses and nearly spat fire.

“A student? A student can beat an anomaly like a dog? Do you think you’re fooling a child?”

“With that kind of strength, he could already join the Anomaly Hunter Bureau!”

Fatty Wu smiled slyly and rubbed his shiny bald head.

“How did you know one of my students was a 2-Star Anomaly Hunter?”

“I prepared all the records. Would you like to see them?”

The old man snatched the documents from Fatty Wu in a fury.

After reading only a few lines, he nearly fainted from rage.

“A 2… 2-Star Anomaly Hunter?!”

“How is that possible?!”

“The world has gone mad…”

The principal of No. 2 High School was a sharp, capable-looking woman in a fitted black dress.

Her face darkened as she took the documents.

“Impossible! How old is he? How could he be a 2-Star Anomaly Hunter?”

Fatty Wu scratched his ear and grinned.

“He just turned eighteen–oh, actually, nineteen!”

“Sigh. Only an educational master with my extraordinary teaching ability could cultivate a genius like this.”

“People like you probably won’t have the chance in this lifetime.”

His shameless smile suggested that he intended to enrage No. 1 High School’s principal to death.

“Principal! Principal, stay with us!”

“Don’t fall for his provocation! Principal!”

The elderly principal truly began to sway and nearly collapsed. Fortunately, the people behind him caught him in time.

Even the education department’s proctor could not stop his mouth from twitching.

“Old Wu, that’s enough. This really is shameless, even for you…”

“An Anomaly Hunter participating in a high school joint examination sets quite a precedent.”

Fatty Wu scoffed dismissively. “What, is cultivating a genius somehow my fault?”

“There is no law saying a student cannot become an Anomaly Hunter.”

The people from No. 1 and No. 2 High Schools ground their teeth, but they could do nothing about the shameless principal.

The proctors had also confirmed that Qin Lan’s records complied with every regulation. He was legally eligible to participate in the joint examination.

Even if the other schools objected, they could only submit an appeal to the education department after the examination ended.

Fatty Wu rubbed his hands, a calculating glint shining between his narrow eyelids.

“Well, Old Li? Wasn’t that a brilliant move?”

“If the old man from No. 1 High School actually dies of rage, we’ll have killed two birds with one stone…”

Li Shan, the Dean of Students, lowered his head in shame.

“Stop making enemies, Old Wu. We’re both almost retired. Do you really have to do something that will stain our reputations for generations?”

“How can we abandon all dignity over a mere ranking?”

Fatty Wu gave him a sidelong glance. “Oh? It’s only a mere ranking?”

Li Shan looked deeply disgusted. “Exactly. If this continues, our reputations will be ruined!”

“How could a mere ranking compare with our reputations as educators?”

A slow smile spread across Fatty Wu’s round face.

He looked knowingly at Li Shan but said nothing.

The two men had worked together for many years.

Li Shan’s tightly furrowed brow gradually relaxed, and the corners of his mouth began rising beyond his control.

They exchanged a smile. No words were necessary.

“Exactly. Only a mere ranking…”

“The Ghost King? I’d say we’re about evenly matched. I solo-kill it all the time, too.”

So said Qin Lan, fresh out of a max-star horror instance.
