Chapter 8
Chapter 8
After I added Aunt Hua’s youngest son, Fu Che, on WeChat, we started making frequent plans to eat together, watch movies, and draw.
We were so high-profile about it that even our academic advisor knew I had a younger boyfriend from another school.
The next time I saw Song Yu was on Christmas Eve.
Fu Che and I had made some handicrafts, had dinner, and watched a movie. Afterward, like any boyfriend would, he walked me back to my dorm. When we were almost downstairs, we stopped under the dim yellow streetlight. I closed my eyes and tilted my head up slightly. Fu Che lowered his head. Our breaths mingled, and just as our lips were getting closer and closer, I heard Song Yu’s voice from not far away. Apparently, he finally couldn’t keep hiding.
“Lin Xi.”
Fu Che paused, then straightened with a low laugh. “Looks like my mission is coming to an end.”
I said sincerely, “Thanks.”
“No problem. Just remember to get Aunt Zhou to delete all the embarrassing photos she saved of me as a kid.”
“I’ll try to persuade her.”
“…”
After a brief round of bargaining, the two of us calmly turned to look at Song Yu.
He didn’t look too good. There was a touch of sorrow in the way he stared at me, like an immature emo kid. He looked at Fu Che and forced a bitter smile. “Is he your boyfriend?”
“No. He’s the decoy I used to lure you out.”
The grief on Song Yu’s face froze. “Huh?”
Beside me, the corner of Fu Che’s mouth twitched. “Do you always talk like this?”
“Yeah.”
Fu Che: “…”
Fu Che: “Then am I still useful now?”
Me: “Either way.”
Fu Che: “…Then I guess I’m not. You two talk. I’ll squat over there and watch the show.”
Me: “Mm.”
After approving Fu Che’s unreasonable request, I reached out a hand toward Song Yu. “Come here.”
Fu Che, who was looking for a corner to squat in, muttered, “Holy crap, Long Aotian?”
Song Yu probably didn’t hear him. After hesitating for a moment, he still came over.
“Lin Xi, I…”
“Why were you avoiding me?”
I asked bluntly.
Song Yu was silent for a long while before saying, “I felt like… I wasn’t good enough for you.”
“…”
“And I kept bringing trouble to you.”
By the time he finished speaking, Song Yu’s head had lowered completely.
I was puzzled. “So you planned to go bring trouble to some other girl who might not be capable of dealing with it?”
Hearing that, Song Yu denied it at once. “No… I still have at least that much moral integrity.”
“So you planned to stay single for the rest of your life?”
Song Yu opened his mouth, then closed it again.
I changed the question. “Then why did you come out?”
Even in such a sorrowful atmosphere, the corners of Song Yu’s mouth couldn’t help twitching twice.
“Aren’t you the one who lured me out?”
“I didn’t put out a hook. You bit of your own free will.”
Song Yu fell silent again. After a long while, he gave a soft laugh and sighed. Then he looked at me. “I’ve realized you’re actually pretty mean.”
He was smiling, but there wasn’t much joy on his face.
He said, “Lin Xi, I don’t believe you can’t tell that I like you.”
The moment he finished, I grabbed him by the collar and forced him to bend down. Then I rose slightly on my toes and kissed him on the lips.
Song Yu froze completely in place. I let go of his lips and emphasized, “Whether I’m good enough for you is up to you. Whether you’re good enough for me is up to me. Got it?”
Song Yu dazedly touched his own lips, then blinked. “You… What did that just mean?”
Before I could speak, Fu Che, who had been watching from behind us, said in exasperation, “Bro! Can you get it together!? The girl kissed you on the mouth, and you’re still asking what she means!? Seriously! You deserve to get Long Aotian’d!”
Song Yu’s face turned bright red in an instant.
But he had no mind to argue with Fu Che. He just looked at me, completely at a loss. “Then-thennn-then am I your boyfriend now? No, wait, I haven’t confessed yet. Lin Xi, I like you. No, that’s not right, I didn’t prepare anything. Aaaah! This is too sudden! Lin Xi! I didn’t prepare anything! You’re making me confess empty-handed!? Wait, I’ll order flowers and candles right now…”
My expression darkened. “If you dare make this cringe, I’ll kill you.”
Song Yu snapped his mouth shut.
After a moment, he asked again, “Then what should I do now?”
I smiled. “Song Yu, I like you too. Just agree to be my boyfriend. That’s enough.”
Under the refracted light, I suddenly saw tears glimmering at the corners of Song Yu’s eyes. He smiled and said, “Mm. I agree.”
