Chapter 6

By the time Song Yu changed and came out of the bathroom, I checked the time. It was getting late.

Considering I really had taken up a lot of his time today, I decided to treat him to another meal.

“What do you want for dinner?”

Song Yu sneered. “What’s it to you?”

I explained, “I want to treat you to dinner.”

The sneer on Song Yu’s face froze, then slowly disappeared. He said awkwardly, “…You-you pick.”

I nodded.

“Any dietary restrictions?”

“No.”

“Is the seafood buffet near campus okay?”

“Mm.”

Once I got his approval, I reserved two seats. Then Song Yu and I left the hotel together. He stayed quiet for quite a while, until we reached the hotel entrance. Only then did he ask, all shy and fidgety, “Are you trying to coax me?”

I thought about it seriously for a moment, then decided to go along with what he wanted to hear.

“Mm.”

At that, Song Yu suddenly looked pleased with himself, though what came out of his mouth was, “Oh, come on, I wasn’t actually mad. After all, from the start you said you wanted me to be your model. But after I found out you’d hired so many models and only touched me, I knew you definitely cared about me. I understand. You’re a reckless little girl, sure, but you’re just bad at expressing yourself, so you really don’t need to go out of your way to coax me…”

Ever since I asked him to model for me that one time, Song Yu had become extremely enthusiastic.

Almost every week, he specifically set aside time to model for me.

He even came to ask on his own initiative.

An acquaintance. Xu Zimeng.

This time, she brought six men with her.

The one in front was a muscular man with a lightning bolt shaved into his sideburns.

Xu Zimeng glared at me viciously, then grabbed Brother Lightning and complained, “Cousin! It’s her! She stole my boyfriend! And she hit me!”

I clarified, “I didn’t steal anyone.”

Xu Zimeng was completely unreasonable. “You did! The whole school knows I like Song Yu and have been chasing him for a year! Then you came in halfway and interfered! You’re the other woman!”

Me: “You’re an idiot.”

Xu Zimeng stomped her foot in anger. “You still dare to insult me!?”

Me: “I didn’t insult you. It was an objective assessment.”

Xu Zimeng clenched her teeth in rage, then turned to Brother Lightning. “Cousin! Look at her!”

Only then did Brother Lightning speak.

“Little lady, seeing as you’re a girl, I won’t make things hard for you. You just have to do two things. First, you stole my sister’s boyfriend, so break up with him and apologize to my sister. Second, you hit her last time, so let her hit you back. It’s just a little fight between girls. Once the grudge is settled, I won’t interfere. How’s that?”

“What’s the second option?” I asked.

But before Brother Lightning could speak, a familiar voice came from behind me.

“Lin Xi!”

I turned around. Song Yu had already run up to me, then pulled me behind him in one motion.

“What do you think you’re doing!?”

Brother Lightning raised an eyebrow first.

“You’re that Song Yu?”

Song Yu answered while pushing me farther back.

“That’s me. I’m the one you’re looking for. This has nothing to do with her.”

Xu Zimeng said angrily, “How does it have nothing to do with her!? If it weren’t for her, would you have rejected me!? And last time, she slapped my face until it swelled up!”

Hearing that, Song Yu paused and turned to look at me.

I clarified, “I didn’t slap her.”

Xu Zimeng clutched her face anxiously. “You dare say you didn’t slap me!?”

“I dare.”

Xu Zimeng froze for a second, then seemed to remember something. “Yes! Fine, it really wasn’t your hand that slapped me! You were holding Jiajia and the others’ hands when you did it!”

I nodded. “More or less.”

Song Yu was stunned.

“What does that mean?”

Me: “Not important.”

Song Yu didn’t ask any more questions. He changed the subject and reminded me in a low voice, “In a moment, I’ll hold them off first. You run somewhere safe and call the police, got it?”

Me: “I already did.”

Song Yu: “Huh?”

I tapped my ear. The Bluetooth earbud there was already on a call.

“There are two people on our side, one man and one woman. The other side has seven people, six men and one woman. The location is the alley entrance across from the People’s Bank of China, fifty meters north of Huaqin Street, Qiansan Road, Heming Avenue, Heming District.”

The operator immediately repeated it back, repeatedly reminded us to protect our personal safety, then notified the nearby police station to dispatch officers.

While Song Yu was still standing there in a daze, Brother Lightning grew impatient not far away.

“What are you two whispering about!? Did you hear what I said? Come over here and apologize to my sister. Then the guy marries into our family, and the girl gets lost. That’ll be the end of this. Don’t force us to make a move!”

Then he complained to Xu Zimeng, “I really don’t know what you see in this scrawny dog.”

Song Yu’s expression changed slightly.

I patted his shoulder to comfort him. “Don’t worry. I still like him quite a lot.”

Song Yu’s face flushed again.

Then I said to the people across from us, “No idea. But we’re not breaking up.”

Song Yu’s eyes instantly went wide. “Babe, can we maybe not be so blunt right now?”

The people across from us also stared. Xu Zimeng was so angry she looked like she wanted to come over and slap me, but probably remembering what happened last time, she paused, then turned to Brother Lightning again. “Cousin! Look! She’s just asking for a beating!”

Brother Lightning’s face darkened too.

“Little lady, you’ve got quite the stubborn temper. But I only like obedient girls. I’ll give you one last chance. Apologize! Break up!”

Song Yu’s expression also sank. “Don’t push people too far. My girlfriend and I are doing just fine. What gives you the right to tell us to break up!?”

“Oh?”

Brother Lightning was truly enraged now. He shoved Xu Zimeng aside, stepped forward, grabbed Song Yu by the collar, and said viciously, “What gives me the right? The fact that I’m stronger than you! Bigger than you! You’re a scrawny pretty boy. My sister taking an interest in you is doing you a favor! Not only did you keep turning her down, you even found some little bitch to piss her off! If you don’t want a taste of my fists, then learn to read the room. My patience is limited. I’ll ask you one last time! Are you breaking up or not!?”

Song Yu’s stubborn streak flared up too. He stared at Brother Lightning and enunciated each word.

“No. Way.”
