Chapter 7
Chapter 7
“Fuck you!”
As Brother Lightning spoke, his fist came swinging down. Song Yu raised an arm to block it, but the pain never came. Instead, the grip on his collar loosened. Then came Xu Zimeng’s scream, followed by Brother Lightning’s pained groan.
Song Yu lowered his arm in surprise. “Lin… Lin Xi?”
I dusted off my hands and turned to look at him. “Hm?”
Song Yu blinked at me, but didn’t say why he’d called my name.
Brother Lightning clutched his stomach and looked up. “Fuck! You fucking-damn it, you’re just some chick. I really underestimated you!”
Xu Zimeng supported Brother Lightning, looking aggrieved. “That’s why I told you to bring more people! Last time, I could tell this Lin Xi knew how to fight!”
Brother Lightning lowered the hand on his stomach, then shoved Xu Zimeng away. Still unconvinced, he said, “I was careless just now, that’s all. A little girl? I’d like to see what you’re really capable of. It’s just some flashy moves…”
Ten minutes later.
When Brother Lightning saw the police car approaching from a distance, he burst into tears and wailed, “Officers! Officers! Criminals! There are violent criminals here!”
The officers who arrived were stunned too.
“Who called the police?”
I raised my hand. “I did.”
Brother Lightning completely lost it and started cursing. “Bullshit! You still have the nerve to call the police?! Officers! Look what she did to me! Look!”
I took out my phone. “I have the call record from when I reported it.”
The officers looked back and forth between us. In the end, one of them waved a hand. “Take them all in!”
Because I had recorded everything in advance with a portable camera, there was plenty of evidence proving that the other side had been the ones to pick a fight. On top of that, the hospital’s injury assessment for Brother Lightning and his buddies didn’t even meet the standard for minor injuries. In the end, Song Yu and I were released that same day on the grounds of justifiable self-defense, while Brother Lightning and the others were detained for a few days for provoking trouble.
After that, I never saw Xu Zimeng again.
And ever since the confrontation with Brother Lightning, aside from Xu Zimeng, there was one other person who disappeared from my sight-Song Yu.
And it was obvious he was avoiding me.
I didn’t understand it, but I didn’t force him to face me either.
My brother seemed to have hit a bottleneck in his love life too. He’d been walking around looking miserable lately.
“Sis, tell me, why are girls’ thoughts so hard to figure out?”
I ignored him.
He continued pouring out his grievances on his own.
“I mean, I just saw how hard she was working and told her not to push herself so much, that I’d support her in the future. How did that make her angry?!”
“Idiot.”
“…”
My brother gave me an indescribable look. “Fine. Keep pissing me off. Once you piss me to death, you’ll be an only child. Maybe if you lose your mind someday and retake the college entrance exam, you’ll even get extra points.”
“Ugh, seriously. One person outside is suffocating me, and the one at home is trying to anger me to death. What kind of life is this?”
“…”
“No, seriously, little sis, say something. Why exactly is she mad? Wasn’t I doing it for her own good?”
“…”
“Come on, you already called me an idiot. Can’t you give me a couple of useful, non-idiotic insights?”
So annoying.
At the end of my patience, I said, “Ask Mom.”
My brother smacked his forehead. “Right! Mom’s had Dad wrapped around her finger all these years. Why didn’t I ask her instead of asking you, a single dog? I really got so mad I stopped thinking…”
With that, my brother finally got lost.
The world was quiet again.
I was able to keep drawing in peace.
An hour later, I looked up and saw my mom standing at the studio door. I had no idea when she’d arrived.
“Mom, what’s up?”
My mom walked gracefully over to me. “I came to see my youngest daughter, who’s suffering from heartbreak.”
I clarified, “I’m not heartbroken.”
My mom raised an eyebrow. “Is that so?”
“Mm.”
Hearing that, my mom chuckled and didn’t argue.
After hesitating for a moment, I asked her, “I remember Aunt Hua’s youngest son is about my age.”
“Need a favor?”
I nodded. “Help me out.”
My mom smiled and ruffled my hair. “Well, well. The iron tree is finally blooming. Wait a bit. I’ll send you his WeChat.”
“Mm. Thanks, Mom.”

My brother went on a trip with a few friends.
Mom told me to video-call him and check in.
The call connected, and the screen filled with a man’s bare upper body, his pecs on...
