Chapter 15

Song Tangyan had been nursing a wicked little idea for some time, but had never found the chance to carry it out.

Then one day, Miss Song bought two tickets to a haunted house in advance, planning to go with her boyfriend.

As luck would have it, something urgent came up for Jiang Rong that day. Her girlfriends were unreliable and somehow even more timid than he was… After considering every option, she could only drag Liang Anping into it.

“Oh, I see. After knowing me all this time, I was still the last person you thought of?” Liang Anping glanced at her from his chair. He had very little he wished to say.

“Come on, Anping. Why quibble over that with me? If you’re a man, give me a straight answer. Are you coming or not?” Miss Song watched him guiltily, uncertain what he was thinking.

“…Let me get ready. Wait a moment. I won’t be long.”

“What could you possibly need to do? You’re already that handsome. How much better are you planning to look? Are you trying to leave every other man no chance and debut as a celebrity while you’re at it?”

…

“Aaaaaagh! Mom, save me!”

“God, that was terrifying. I’m never coming back. Never!”

Most of the people emerging from the haunted house were deathly pale, their legs trembling beneath them.

Liang Anping studied Song Tangyan and raised an eyebrow. “You really want to go in? No regrets?”

“We’re already here. Let’s go.”

The corridor beyond was dark and sinister. Chandeliers hung as if on the verge of falling. The walls were ghastly white, smeared with bloody handprints. Dust covered the teacher’s desk and rows of student desks.

A faint sound drifted from somewhere unseen, sometimes like the wind and sometimes like weeping.

But two particular visitors seemed entirely out of place in the eerie surroundings.

Song Tangyan bounced ahead in open excitement, occasionally turning back to hurry Liang Anping along.

Liang Anping followed at an unhurried pace, his face numb.

…

An actor waited around the corner. Hearing footsteps, he prepared to leap out and frighten them, only to have the footsteps stop abruptly.

The actor: …???

Where were they? How had they vanished?

He wandered along the corridor and paused before a door. Just as he was about to leave, the door began to creak.

The actor thought blankly, Oh, they’re in here, and pushed it open.

Inside stood a young woman in a white dress, her loose hair hiding her face as she stared straight at him.

The actor stepped forward, intending to brush the hair aside. The woman abruptly collapsed where she stood, reached for his ankle, and kept whispering, “You’ve come? Come down and play with me.”

The actor: …

Several seconds later…

“Aaaaaagh! Mom, save me!”

He sprang almost three feet into the air, then fled on hands and knees.

Song Tangyan climbed off the floor and dusted herself with a disdainful huff. “Tsk. He’s even more cowardly than I am.”

Liang Anping: …

This was a young woman.

This was really a fucking young woman?!

Liang Anping was still reeling when Song Tangyan asked, “Want to try?”

“…”

“…”

“…”

“…Fine.”

In the end, Liang Anping agreed to Miss Song’s suggestion.

Twenty minutes later.

“I’ll buy both of you milk tea. In return, could you visit the haunted house across the street from now on?” The manager invited them into his office, coming within a hair’s breadth of saying outright, Get lost and torment someone else’s staff!

Dejected, the two of them accepted the milk tea and started home.

“Brother Liang, let’s try a different place next time. Scaring the same people over and over gets boring.”

“If we get the chance.”
