Chapter 1
Chapter 1
My soul had possessed a girl’s body.
But as I stared at the senior-year math test in front of me, the one with a glaring 65 written across the top, I fell into deep thought.
Back when I took the college entrance exam, I got into Tsinghua University with the highest score in the entire city. Now, looking at this baffling grade, I actually laughed out loud.
The sound was especially jarring in the quiet evening self-study class. The girl sitting in front of me turned around and shot me a disgusted look. Frowning, she said, “Sun Shuyi, shut up.”
I didn’t bother stooping to her level. I looked up and saw the homework written on the blackboard, along with the countdown to the college entrance exam. It didn’t take me long to understand. I was now inside the body of a high school girl.
I looked down at my hands. They were long-fingered and fair. Then I picked up the little mirror on the desk and saw a face that was fairly pretty.
Prettier than my old one, at least. But there were faint shadows under the eyes, the kind that came from chronic sleep deprivation.
I lowered my head. Well, damn. One of my legs was actually in a cast.
Review materials were stacked neatly on and inside the desk, along with notebooks packed densely with notes and test papers that had been corrected again and again.
All of them were covered in rather ugly scores.
Everyone was doing homework at the moment. I looked around. There was barely any conversation, so I tried asking my deskmate what year it was, only for him to cut me off impatiently. “Are you done being annoying?”
It seemed the original owner of this body was not exactly well-liked.
So I gave up on conversation and started looking through the papers piled on the desk. 2020–2021 academic year… That made it two years after my own college entrance exam, the first year after I had become a ghost.
The original owner had filled an entire page of scratch paper and still failed to solve the second-to-last major problem. I took one look and realized all her calculations were just going in circles, completely useless.
I sighed, picked up my pen, and began working it out.
It only took me fifteen minutes to finish the remaining two major problems. By then, a few students had started quietly discussing the answer to the final problem.
As I listened, I corrected the earlier answers too.
At last, I heard someone behind me say negative one. I turned around and said, “Right, the answer is negative one. Did you use…”
The two of them looked at me like I was an idiot, then simply turned back and continued their discussion without me.
I was utterly confused.
Just then, the teacher came in through the doorway. He was a bald, middle-aged man with a pair of glasses perched on his nose. With practiced ease, he asked, “Who’s finished? Today’s questions were pretty difficult.”
A few hands went up here and there. I raised mine as well, only for laughter to break out.
The teacher looked at me in surprise too. “Sun Shuyi, did you hear what I asked?”
I nodded. The teacher shook his head and said, “Don’t joke around with me. Hurry up and correct yesterday’s basic exercise sheet for me to check.”
So I rummaged around for a while before finally finding that basic exercise sheet. By the time I looked up, the teacher had already started discussing the problems with the students who had finished the test.
The basic exercise sheet was covered densely in red crosses.
