Chapter 9

“I didn’t expect her to be able to break even a Nightmare Demon’s dreamscape.”

An old man’s voice drifted over, and Fang Lu let out a soft snort.

“That was hardly a Nightmare Demon. It was just a high-level Nightmare Beast; it’s still a long way off from becoming a true Nightmare Demon. I told you before, it takes at least a hundred thousand lives to nurture a Nightmare Demon. What kind of rubbish have you been throwing into the well to fob me off?”

“Times aren’t what they used to be. Every human life is a major issue now, not to mention that Yin-aligned people are hard to find.”

The old man grumbled a few words under his breath before walking over to a nearby sofa and sitting down.

The two of them chatted intermittently, and the more I listened, the more alarmed I became. The soul inside Fang Lu was a subordinate named Hengnu.

Hengnu was Chiyou’s Great Shaman, who had come to Tibet to find a way to resurrect Chiyou.

Once, she had almost succeeded. Unexpectedly, the Tang Imperial Family entered a marriage alliance with Tubo, and Princess Wencheng came to Tibet.

What no one knew was that Princess Wencheng was also an Earth Master successor.

She established twelve temples across Tibet. On the surface, they were just temples, but in reality, they were the ‘Twelve Immovable Nails’ used to suppress the Demoness. The thangka of the Tibet Demon-Suppression Diagram is still on display in museums today.

Over the years, the descendants of the Chiyou Tribe had secretly infiltrated the Buddhist ranks in order to rescue Hengnu. Those ritual implements made of human bone and skin were actually evil artifacts, all prepared for the purpose of destroying the formation.

What a massive, calculated scheme!

I clenched my fists in righteous indignation when I suddenly felt a tickle on my calf, followed by a series of squeaks.

A rat crawled over my leg, ducked under the hem of Jiang Haoyan’s shirt, and poked its head out from his collar.

Jiang Haoyan gasped. I signaled him with my eyes to stay calm, but a second later, the rat ducked back into his clothes and started crawling toward his crotch.

Jiang Haoyan couldn’t take it anymore. With a shout of “Holy shit!” he scrambled out from under the bed in a flurry.

Exasperated, I crawled out after him and scolded him.

“You useless coward!”

Fang Lu looked at Jiang Haoyan with slight surprise and let out a sneer.

“You broke the Gu Sorcery quite quickly.”

She then gave the lama beside her a look and suddenly began speaking a long string of Tibetan.

Discussing how to deal with us right in front of our faces just because we couldn’t understand them-how infuriating!

Jiang Haoyan let out a cold laugh.

“It’s fine, Qiao Moyu. We can speak English to humiliate them.”

Between an ancient soul and an old lama, there was no way they understood English.

“Gibberish gibberish, I think gibberish gibberish, OK?”

I fell silent.

“Is it possible that the one you’re humiliating is me?”

Fang Lu started laughing.

“Qiao Moyu, he’s saying that the two of you should run in opposite directions.”

My friend went on a trip to Tibet and unexpectedly vanished.

It wasn’t until much later that I discovered a tattoo on a drum that was identical to the one on her back.
