Chapter 7
Huh?
Why did that dialogue sound so familiar?
I froze for a few seconds before it suddenly clicked. No wonder I couldn’t find any traces of dark sorcery on Jiang Haoyan; it turned out he had been hexed with a gu-specifically, a Love Gu.
Those under the influence of a Love Gu fall hopelessly in love with the caster, becoming subservient to their every whim.
Miaojiang Gu Arts were originally passed down from the Chiyou Tribe. Jiang Haoyan must have been hexed by that pregnant Demoness back in Xinjiang.
Fang Lu and that woman were both Chiyou’s subordinates; there had to be some secret way for them to communicate.
“Let’s eat first. After that, come with me to the temple,” Fang Lu said.
She took Jiang Haoyan’s hand. He obediently placed the command token on the nightstand. Fang Lu glanced at the token with a hint of fear in her eyes.
“I don’t like that thing. Jiang Haoyan, why don’t you throw it in the toilet?”
Jiang Haoyan shook his head.
“Qiao Moyu will be angry. It’s her treasure. Let’s just leave it here.”
Fang Lu gave him a long, searching look.
“Didn’t you say you’d always listen to me?”
Jiang Haoyan dazed for a moment, then nodded mechanically.
“Right. I’ll listen.”
I was so angry I could have exploded.
“Listen to your damn mother!”
“Five Thunders Command-”
A bolt of lightning instantly shot out from the token, striking me right in the head.
“Holy crap! The token misfired!”
“Qiao Moyu, are you okay?”
Jiang Haoyan rushed to the bed. I clutched my head, my eyelids feeling heavy as I forced my eyes open.
My soul had been pulled into a dreamscape by the Nightmare Demon. The creature’s power was too immense; that bolt of lightning had only managed to blast open a temporary passage.
Furthermore, having lightning strike my brain was going to cause physical damage for at least six months to a year. Dammit, there goes any hope of passing my final exams next semester.
I shoved Jiang Haoyan aside, grabbed my backpack from the corner, and stumbled toward the stairs.
The Nightmare Demon’s power had a limited range. Since it was born from that well, it couldn’t leave this place for the time being. If I could just get far enough away, it wouldn’t be able to touch me.
Fang Lu clearly realized this immediately. She chased after me, fuming with rage.
“Jiang Haoyan, catch her!”
“Qiao Moyu, where are you going?”
Jiang Haoyan followed me anxiously. I took the stairs two at a time and burst out of the house, but it wasn’t long before I hit my limit.
Have you ever tried running in Tibet?
After a few dozen steps, it feels like you’ve just finished a marathon. My lungs felt like they were going to burst, and my vision kept swimming into darkness.
The air outside was cool, with a gentle breeze blowing. I struggled to keep my mind clear, running as if in slow motion. Jiang Haoyan was in even worse shape; he had a larger lung capacity, which actually made him more susceptible to altitude sickness.
After only a few steps, he stopped, leaning his hands on his knees and gasping for air.
“Qiao Moyu, wait for me-”
Jiang Haoyan staggered along, moving as slowly as an old man.
I was also stumbling, glancing back every now and then. Fang Lu hadn’t caught up; it looked like she had ducked into the neighboring building to call for reinforcements. Once that group of lamas arrived, Jiang Haoyan and I would never be able to leave.
Sure enough, speak of the devil-the lights at the temple entrance flickered on in the distance, and a group of red-robed lamas emerged from the main gate.
Panic set in. In the nick of time, a vehicle drove past us, its blinding headlights nearly searing my eyes.
I rushed into the middle of the road, waving a stack of red hundred-yuan bills.
“TAXI!”
*Screeech-*
The sound of harsh braking echoed as the vehicle came to a halt. I looked closer and saw it was a small motorized tricycle with a sheep standing in the back.
A middle-aged man with a weathered face looked at us in surprise.
“What are you doing?”
I stuffed the stack of cash into his arms and dragged Jiang Haoyan onto the back of the tricycle.
“Drive, fast! My mom is trying to sell me off to some old man!”
The man was instantly filled with righteous indignation and slammed on the gas.
“That’s terrible! What era is this? People are still doing arranged marriages!”

My friend went on a trip to Tibet and unexpectedly vanished.
It wasn’t until much later that I discovered a tattoo on a drum that was identical to the one on her back.
