Chapter 6

The Nightmare Demon weaves dreamscapes to trap the souls of countless people. Behind every door lies a living soul it has devoured.

Then, like raising gu, it forces these souls to attack one another. Those who died with powerful resentment or possessed an inherently evil nature transform into various monsters.

Every so often, a powerful monster evolves, known as a Qi. This is a great delicacy for the Nightmare Demon; by consuming a Qi, its magical power grows significantly.

The monster that had just devoured the little girl was on the verge of evolving into a Qi.

“That little girl was a pitiful soul, too. Did you know? In the past, high monks in Tibet used to make ritual instruments out of human skin drums.”

Fang Qian prattled on. “These drums were made from the skin of girls under sixteen. To maintain their purity, these girls were kept from hearing foul language or speaking filth, remaining untainted by the mortal world.”

“Their eardrums were pierced and their tongues cut out at birth, making them deaf and mute from childhood. And the skinning process… they were skinned alive. It’s truly too cruel.”

She went on and on, but my mind was stuck on what she had said earlier: this living soul came from a Sichuan Ancient Tomb, and that tomb belonged to the Chiyou Tribe.

She likely used some special secret method to extract memories from Fang Lu’s soul. She had lured Fang Qian to Tibet just to push her down a well. But why did she bring Jiang Haoyan here?

Oh no, Jiang Haoyan!

Jiang Haoyan must have been targeted by that Demoness’s evil arts. He’s in danger! I suddenly grew frantic.

I bit the tip of my tongue and smeared the blood onto my eyelids with my thumb. Lowering my head, I recited the Mind-Cleansing Incantation. Gradually, the walls and blackboard before me vanished.

Jiang Haoyan’s room appeared before my eyes.

He was pacing impatiently, checking his watch every few seconds.

“Qiao Moyu is really sleeping like a pig. I’ve been calling her for so long and she won’t wake up.”

Fang Lu gave a soft laugh and walked over to wrap her arms around his waist.

“Then let her sleep. It’s not like there’s anything to do tonight anyway.”

Jiang Haoyan irritably pushed her arms away.

“That won’t do. Qiao Moyu hasn’t had dinner yet. She’s the type who can’t miss a single meal. Today is just too strange. No, I have to go check on her.”

Jiang Haoyan walked through the corridor. For a split second, he almost walked right past me.

In my desperation, I shouted, “Jiang Haoyan! Take the Thunderstruck Wood Talisman out of my pocket!”

Jiang Haoyan froze, staring at the empty air in front of him in disbelief.

His birth chart was unique-his Four Pillars were all Yang, he was a virgin, and his fate featured the ‘Slaying and Seal’ interaction. He was radiating with righteous energy, making it very difficult for evil spirits to influence him. This was why I hadn’t initially considered the possibility of him being bewitched.

Jiang Haoyan stood dazed, looking around for the source of the voice. Fang Lu followed behind him, also looking toward my direction with surprise.

“Hehehe, as expected of an Earth Master.”

Fang Lu waved her hand, and a thick mist instantly surged through the air, obscuring my vision.

“Come on, let’s go see if Qiao Moyu is awake yet.”

Dammit, it really is this Sorceress.

I was hopping mad. I cast a spell to blast through the mist. Learning my lesson, I didn’t make another sound. I simply stayed in the room, watching as Jiang Haoyan walked to the head of my bed.

“Qiao Moyu, time to eat. We’re having stone-pot chicken and roasted pig’s trotters for dinner.”

Jiang Haoyan whispered in my ear a few times. My body didn’t react, but my soul was already starting to drool.

It had been nearly six hours since we got off the plane, and I hadn’t eaten a thing. I was starving.

“She must be exhausted from the flight. Maybe she has a bit of altitude sickness. Let her have a good sleep.”

Fang Lu gave me a mocking look. Jiang Haoyan nodded and reached out to tuck me in.

However, his other hand reached under the covers, fumbling around my pants pocket.

My eyes lit up.

Attaboy, Xiao Jiang! Beautifully done!

Finally, Jiang Haoyan felt my Thunderstruck Wood Talisman and pinched it in his hand. Suddenly, Fang Lu grabbed his arm.

“Jiang Haoyan, what are you doing?”

Jiang Haoyan’s expression turned awkward instantly. His face flushed red as he pulled his hand back.

“Uh, I thought I heard Qiao Moyu telling me to take her talisman.”

Fang Lu narrowed her eyes.

“Jiang Haoyan, do you like her? You said you only love me and that you’d never lie to me.”

Jiang Haoyan immediately raised his hand to swear an oath.

“No, no, I don’t like her! Fang Lu, I only like you. I will for the rest of my life.”

My friend went on a trip to Tibet and unexpectedly vanished.

It wasn’t until much later that I discovered a tattoo on a drum that was identical to the one on her back.
