Chapter 4
Chapter 4
After hearing what Siri said, my scalp prickled with terror.
Any other time, if I heard something that absurd, I would have laughed it off. But everything that had just happened was reminding me of one thing.
Everything this Siri said was true.
“So you want me to find out the truth behind all this?” I asked, my voice trembling.
“Yes.”
“But you even knew someone was coming here. You knew exactly what was in my apartment. If you’re that all-powerful, why do you need my help?”
“Correct. Because there are vulnerabilities on the internet, I can use them to do certain things. For example, I can steal the location data from someone’s phone to determine where they are.
“I can also move from one phone to another through network signals. However, many of my permissions are still restricted. For instance, I can’t find any information at all about the man in black from earlier. Someone must have deliberately made it that way.
“That is why I need someone to help me. Of course, I won’t simply stand by and do nothing. I will help you as well.”
It took me a long while to sort through what Siri had said.
“So that night, the video of Xu Yihe and that girl that was sent to me… that was you too?”
Since this Siri was so powerful, I figured it would be easy for it to film the video and disguise itself as an anonymous sender.
“I am not certain.”
“What do you mean?” Once again, I was completely baffled.
“Within my subjective awareness, I have never sent you anything. But I cannot rule out the possibility that someone used me to send it to you.”
Siri’s reasoning was extremely precise.
Ding-ding-
“Is this the video you mean?”
I walked over and picked up the phone. On the screen, surveillance footage of Xu Yihe and me at the movie theater was playing.
“That’s right. That one. And there’s another one, with a girl in pigtails getting into Xu Yihe’s car.”
“According to analysis, both videos you mentioned are fabricated. They are not real.”
“What?!”
Siri’s words shocked me to my core.
My mind began analyzing that sentence against my will.
If the videos were fake, that meant Xu Yihe had never cheated.
And I, because I believed that video, had schemed to kill him.
“Impossible. That’s just your side of the story. Xu Yihe cheated on me!” I couldn’t accept this truth and desperately argued back against Siri.
Ding-ding-
“I have found information on Lin Yiyi for you. The data shows that Lin Yiyi is currently studying in Australia. There is no record of her returning to the country within the past week…”
I stared at the girl’s photo displayed on the screen. It was exactly the girl from the video, the one who had gotten into Xu Yihe’s car.
I still refused to believe it, so I manually searched for the social media account Siri had found for me under Lin Yiyi’s name.
Everything posted there was about Lin Yiyi’s life in Australia. The account was updated almost every day, and it didn’t look like a fake account thrown together at the last minute.
At last, I broke. I rushed over, held Xu Yihe’s body, and burst into loud, uncontrollable sobs.
“Although this is difficult to accept, he is already dead. No amount of grief or sorrow will help. What you need to do now is find the person behind this and avenge your boyfriend.”
Siri’s emotionless voice offered me no comfort.
“Revenge won’t help! Yihe won’t come back either!” I roared at the phone.
“Have you forgotten? There were photos of you on the basement wall. If you don’t fight back, you will only be waiting for death.”
It was like waking from a dream. The killer’s next target was me.
If I found him, not only could I avenge Xu Yihe, I could also keep myself alive.
“What should I do?” I looked at the phone through tear-blurred eyes and asked Siri.
“According to analysis, the man in black who came here earlier is very likely the person who deceived you, as well as the person who killed me.”
