Chapter 2

To kill Xu Yihe, I spent an entire week planning it.

I chose the house my family had built in the countryside as the location. It was remote, isolated, with barely anyone around.

Aside from the occasional trip Xu Yihe and I made there to escape the noise of the city, no one ever came by.

Xu Yihe was with me for my family’s money. That much was obvious. So all I had to do was act a little spoiled in front of him. I hadn’t even given him a reason yet, and he immediately asked his company for time off to go back with me.

On the night I killed him, I deliberately set up dinner on the rooftop of the fifth floor.

Because I loved him so much, I even gave him one last chance before I did it.

“Xu Yihe, would you ever go behind my back and secretly hook up with another woman?”

At the time, if he had told me the truth, I would have let him go.

But Xu Yihe didn’t. He only froze for a moment before pulling me into his arms.

“Zhenzhen, what nonsense are you talking about? I swear to the heavens, you’re the only one I’ll ever love in this life. If I ever do anything to betray you, then I, Xu Yihe, deserve a horrible death.”

With that, he cupped my face in his hands and kissed me.

After I fully savored that final kiss with him, I found ways to get him drunk, then pushed him off the rooftop.

As I stared at Xu Yihe’s mangled corpse, I cried and said, “You said it yourself. A horrible death.”

There was an enormous refrigerator in the house, big enough to fit a grown adult.

I dragged Xu Yihe’s body over to it. When I let go of his feet, a phone fell out of his pocket.

Probably because of the fall, the screen had shattered into countless pieces.

Ding-ding-

All of a sudden, the phone made a sound.

I recognized it. It was the startup chime for the phone’s voice assistant, Siri.

“Friendly reminder: the refrigerator is not the best place to hide a body.”

I’d had a bit to drink and was somewhat tipsy, but the instant I heard that, I sobered up completely.

I’d heard jokes before about Siri saying creepy things, but this was far too terrifying. How did it know I was about to hide a body?

Ding-ding-

The phone chimed twice more.

“A better body disposal location has been detected. Would you like to proceed?”

“Where?” I stared at the shattered phone and, as if possessed, asked the question.

“The basement. The entrance is inside the wardrobe to the left of the master bedroom on the first floor,” the cold mechanical female voice answered at once.

This house belonged to my family, and I had never known there was a basement.

Although I was terrified, curiosity still drove me into the master bedroom. I opened the wardrobe.

On the back wall of the wardrobe, I found a switch. After I pulled it down, the wall slowly slid to the side.

A wave of putrid stench rushed out, and a pitch-black passage appeared before my eyes.

I turned on my phone’s flashlight and saw that inside the passage was a staircase leading down.

I swallowed, gritted my teeth, and went down.

When I reached the basement, the stench grew even stronger. Only after turning on the light did I see three bodies inside. They all looked like women.

One had already become a mummified corpse. It must have been there for at least two months. No wonder Siri said this was a good place to hide a body.

I was so frightened I was about to run, but then I saw four photos pasted on the wall.

The first three had X’s drawn over them. Judging from the clothes, they matched the bodies on the floor.

And the person in the fourth photo was me.

Ding-ding-

Siri suddenly sounded again.

“Someone is approaching the house. Immediate departure is recommended.”
