Chapter 5

A Bone Demon was still a demon, after all.

The longer he possessed a human body, the more damage he did to it.

For the sake of Chen Siqi’s life, we had no choice but to agree to his demand.

Before we set out to look for the other Terracotta Figurine, I caught up on sleep at Jiang Shaotian’s place.

By the time the sun was high in the sky, I finally came back to life, refreshed and full of energy.

Jiang Shaotian walked over with his gear on his back. “Where are we going to look?”

I glanced toward the other room. “We’ll just follow He Sheng. Since he could find your Terracotta Figurine, he’ll definitely be able to find the other one too.”

With that, I called over there, “He Sheng, hurry up and come out. We’re leaving.”

A few minutes later, the door opened.

He Sheng was dressed in a long cyan robe, every movement carrying an air of refined elegance.

I pressed a hand to my forehead. “Where did those clothes come from?”

Jiang Shaotian yawned. “He pestered me all night to buy them for him.”

“He said his wife liked seeing him in cyan the most.”

He Sheng smiled and walked over to us.

“We can go.”

…

Jiang Shaotian acted as the driver, while He Sheng sat in the passenger seat, directing him through the city with one turn after another.

I lay in the back seat with my eyes closed, resting.

Who knew how long passed before the car finally stopped.

I wiped the drool from the corner of my mouth. “We’re here? Let’s go. Time to find the thing.”

The two people in front didn’t move.

I froze. “What’s wrong? Why aren’t you getting out?”

Jiang Shaotian slowly raised a hand and pointed ahead. “Sis, look where he brought us…”

I followed the direction of his finger, and my pupils shrank.

Fengcheng City Museum.

Standing at the museum entrance, I felt like ten thousand alpacas were stampeding through my heart.

The Terracotta Figurine He Sheng wanted was sitting on display inside the museum. How was I supposed to get it for him?

The three of us looked especially out of place standing there.

A passerby glanced at us a few times, then came over and asked, “You folks trying to go to the museum?”

Jiang Shaotian nodded.

The person said, “Go home. Something happened at the museum these past couple of days. It won’t be opening for now!”

Jiang Shaotian and I exchanged a look, and he quickly asked, “What happened?”

The person leaned closer and lowered his voice. “A week ago, one of the museum’s night-shift guards heard crying coming from inside. He quit the very next day. For the next week, people kept saying someone was crying in the museum. Some even heard someone calling for help!”

“In short, it’s creepy as hell! The museum director couldn’t take the pressure, so he shut the place down for the next few days. No one knows when it’ll reopen!”

He muttered a few more things, then left.

Jiang Shaotian turned to me. “What do we do now?”

Before I could answer, He Sheng, who had been silent beside us, spoke.

“I want to go in.” His gaze remained fixed on the museum. “I can sense it. My Terracotta Figurine is inside.”

I pressed my lips together. “Not now. We’d stand out too much.”

“Let’s find somewhere to wait. Once night falls, we’ll go in.”

Neither of them objected. We wandered around the area for a while, then randomly picked a small teahouse and sat there for the entire afternoon.

Only when night fell and the streetlights along the road came on did the teahouse server come over and politely remind us that they were closing.

After coming out of the restroom for what had to be the hundredth time, I patted Jiang Shaotian on the shoulder.

“Go pay the bill. It’s time to work.”

Once we left the teahouse, we used a few little tricks and slipped into the museum under cover of darkness.

Jiang Shaotian looked hesitant. “Sister Ruyi, won’t the security cameras catch us? Should we cover our faces?”

I shot him a glance. “The cameras here are already out of order.”

He blinked. “You did that?”

“Not me.” I looked around the pitch-black museum. “Whatever is inside did it.”

“Everyone be careful. Something is very wrong with this museum!”
