Chapter 1
Chapter 1
My classmate Lu Ke had been in an excellent mood lately.
When asked why, she said her grandmother, who had been paralyzed in bed for three years, could actually stand up and walk again!
I ran into her at the school gate, and since we were both waiting for someone, we started chatting.
“Ruyi, even the doctors said it was a miracle that my grandma could stand again!”
I smiled. “That’s wonderful.”
She told me a lot more about her grandmother.
We hadn’t been talking long when a car pulled up in front of us.
The rear window rolled down, revealing a kind-looking old woman. She called over to us, “Xiao Ke!”
Lu Ke beamed. “I’m taking my grandma to the hospital for a follow-up! Ruyi, I have to go.”
I nodded, but my gaze stayed on her grandmother, my brows drawing together slightly.
Something felt… off.
Why did it seem like there was a faint, barely-there trace of demonic aura around her?
“What are you thinking about?” Jiang Shaotian had appeared beside me at some point.
He followed my gaze just in time to see Lu Ke get into the car.
The old lady in the back seat smiled at him.
Jiang Shaotian awkwardly returned the gesture.
I looked away. “Nothing. Let’s go.”
…
In the middle of the night, several death-by-phone-call attempts from Jiang Shaotian jolted me awake.
I gritted my teeth. “This had better be important.”
Jiang Shaotian’s voice was trembling. “Sister Ruyi, help! Someone broke into my house, and they’re literally showing bone!”
A row of imaginary crows flapped over my head.
I really wanted to curse him out, but I forced myself to hold back. “I’m not interested in your private life, thanks.”
Jiang Shaotian didn’t say anything. Instead, he sent over the security footage from his living room.
In the video, a stark-white human skeleton stood in the middle of the dim living room. It looked left and right, then slowly walked toward one of the rooms.
It stopped outside the door, lifted its hand… bones, and knocked.
Its finger bones struck the door with a series of tap, tap sounds in the silent night. It was extremely eerie.
But right then, my thoughts drifted in a strange direction.
This skeleton was oddly polite.
Also… talk about literally showing bone.
Jiang Shaotian sounded like he was about to cry. “My cultivation is too shallow. I can’t subdue it at all. Sister Ruyi, hurry up and save me!”
Jiang Shaotian was a disciple of the Jiang Family of Phoenix City, one of the Ten Great Spirit Sects. He had some cultivation, but not much.
He had always followed behind me to farm experience.
I watched the video again.
That sobered me up instantly.
I climbed out of bed, quickly packed a few things, and rushed to Jiang Shaotian’s place.
