Chapter 2
Chapter 2
My name is Yun Ruyi, and I am a Demon-Subduing Master.
A week ago, the Wu Family of Xingcheng, one of the Ten Great Spirit Sects, released an announcement.
A Bone Demon they had been suppressing had escaped.
His whereabouts remained unknown.
So he really had run all the way to Fengcheng!
Ha. Talk about finding something without even trying.
A Bone Demon, as the name suggested, was a demon formed from bones.
He was also known as a White Bone Spirit. The one that tried to eat Tang Sanzang was practically the cream of the crop among White Bone Spirits.
Legend had it that over a thousand years ago, a plague suddenly broke out in Xingcheng. Countless people died, and no one dared set foot in the city again.
Those who died of the plague had no one to bury them. Their corpses were left exposed in the wilderness, and over time, they became white bones.
Vengeful souls clung to those bones, absorbing the essence of day and night. After long enough, they turned into demons.
Back then, Bone Demons ran rampant through Xingcheng. There was hardly a living soul left.
The Ten Great Spirit Sects sent people to exterminate and suppress them.
It was also around that time that the Wu Family gradually began relocating to Xingcheng.
Ever since, the Wu Family had been responsible for subduing and suppressing Bone Demons.
That said, this was the first time a Bone Demon had ever escaped.
And of all people, he had gone after Jiang Shaotian.
Interesting.
I rushed as fast as I could and finally made it to the foot of Jiang Shaotian’s apartment building.
Just as I was about to head upstairs, Jiang Shaotian called again.
“Sister Ruyi! Are you here yet?!”
I caught my breath. “Downstairs.”
Jiang Shaotian was shocked. “Then who’s knocking on my door?”
What kind of nonsense was that?
As I waited for the elevator, I snapped, “Are you stupid? The Bone Demon!”
“No!” Jiang Shaotian said anxiously. “The Bone Demon is knocking on my bedroom door, but someone’s knocking on my front door too!”
Me: “??”
The elevator arrived.
I hung up on him. “Give me one minute. I’m here.”
Ding-
A mechanical female voice sounded inside the elevator. “Eighteenth floor.”
The moment I stepped out, I saw three stylishly dressed young people standing in front of Jiang Shaotian’s door.
Two guys and one girl.
Ah. They were the friends Jiang Shaotian usually hung out with.
As I got closer, I heard them talking.
“Why hasn’t Jiang Shaotian opened the door yet? Did he fall asleep?”
“No way. He’s a total night owl!”
One of them glanced at their phone. “His birthday starts in ten minutes. Can we still make it in time to celebrate right at midnight?”
So they had come all this way just to celebrate his birthday…
Thoughtful, sure, but the timing could not have been worse.
It was nearly midnight, when yin energy was at its peak.
I hurried over, just about to speak and persuade them to leave.
Then I heard a click.
The front door opened from the inside.
“Finally! That brat opened up!”
Laughing and joking, they started to crowd inside.
My gaze sharpened.
Not good. Jiang Shaotian hadn’t opened that door!
A burst of white light flashed from inside the apartment.
I shot through the three of them, formed a seal with both hands, and barked, “Evil spirits, begone!”
Golden light flared!
…Nothing happened.
A little awkward.
All three of them stared at me. “And you are?”
Before I could answer, Jiang Shaotian’s bedroom door opened.
He cautiously poked his head out, and when he saw us standing in the living room, he looked so emotional he was about to burst into tears.
“Sister Ruyi!”
He sprinted over and hugged me, trembling like a leaf.
A vein twitched at my temple. I flipped him straight onto the floor.
“Shaotian… is this your girlfriend?”
“You punk. You actually got yourself a girlfriend…”
The three of them stared at us in a daze.
The moment Jiang Shaotian heard that, his face went white with fright. “No, no, no! Don’t talk nonsense. She’s my sister! I have a brother-in-law!”
Only after saying it did he suddenly react.
He turned to look at me in terror. “Sister Ruyi, then where is that… thing?”
I formed a Spirit-Seeking Array with one hand and swept the entire apartment.
In a low voice, I said, “Still here.”
Jiang Shaotian’s face turned even paler, and he unconsciously edged closer to me.
The way he acted made his three friends look a little unhappy.
“Jiang Shaotian, that’s not cool. We came to celebrate your birthday, and you’re not happy at all?”
“Exactly. You’re way too attentive to your sister.”
“Are we even friends or not?”
Jiang Shaotian instantly looked overwhelmed.
He had no choice but to split his attention and coax them into leaving as soon as possible.
“I’m really sorry. My sister and I have something urgent to discuss. Another day, I swear I’ll treat you all to dinner! You pick the place!”
The three of them exchanged looks. Though they were not pleased, they could not really say much.
“Fine, then.”
“Happy birthday anyway.”
“Let’s hang out another day.”
As they spoke, they headed for the door.
Jiang Shaotian was just about to breathe a sigh of relief when I stepped forward and blocked the three of them.
“Wait.”
I reached out and shut the door.
My gaze swept over them one by one.
“Come out on your own. Don’t make me shine the Demon-Subduing Mirror on each of you.”
“I’m afraid that little skeleton of yours won’t be able to take it.”
