Chapter 3

The three of them looked at one another, their faces blank with confusion.

One of them turned to Jiang Shaotian and tapped his own head. “Shaotian, I think something might be a little wrong with your sister up here.”

Jiang Shaotian stared at me in shock too. “Sister Ruyi, what are you talking about?”

I tugged him back a few steps.

Then I lowered my voice and said, “The Bone Demon is best at the Bone-Attaching Technique. It latches onto a living person’s spine and controls their movements and actions.”

“The moment we came through the door just now, the Bone Demon vanished without a trace. By all rights, there shouldn’t be any way I failed to sense anything at all.”

“So I’m guessing he’s already possessed one of your friends.”

Jiang Shaotian’s eyes went wide. He immediately took one huge stride and blocked the door.

His gaze swept over the three of them. “My sister is right. None of you can leave right now.”

Not only did he shut the door, he even dug out a few belts and prepared to tie them up.

The three of them were horrified. “Jiang Shaotian! Have you lost your mind?”

There wasn’t the slightest flaw in their expressions or movements.

I sighed and stopped Jiang Shaotian.

“Forget it. If even the Demon-Subduing Mirror couldn’t scare him, what are a few lousy belts of yours supposed to do?”

“…”

I cleared my throat and leisurely sat down on the sofa.

“Since you don’t want to come out, let’s just negotiate. What exactly do you want?”

“You have to tell us first, or how are we supposed to help you?”

The three of them looked from me to one another, all seeming completely bewildered.

But after a short while, one of the girls cried out, “Chen Siqi, what are you smiling about?”

The other girl also looked at the boy in terror. “Your smile is so creepy…”

Chen Siqi ignored them and turned to me instead. “Master Ruyi is indeed straightforward.”

I looked at him without saying a word.

Jiang Shaotian froze too.

That was it?

When he came back to his senses, he pointed at Chen Siqi and stammered, “H-Him! It’s in him! Sister Ruyi, hurry and take him down!”

I pressed my lips together and had Jiang Shaotian send the other two people out.

It wasn’t that I didn’t want to take him down. I really couldn’t!

That was exactly what made the Bone Demon so troublesome. Once he attached himself to a living person’s spine, he and that person basically shared life and death.

No spell or spiritual artifact would work anymore.

In the chaotic times of ancient eras, it was easier to deal with. You could just beat the possessed person to death with a stick. One person dying was still better than a whole group dying.

Back then, anyone possessed by a Bone Demon was already considered dead.

Earlier, when I said I would use the Demon-Subduing Mirror, I was only trying to scare him.

But this was a civilized society now. How was I supposed to explain someone dying for no reason?

I had no desire to be invited in for tea by the authorities.

I looked at Chen Siqi, feeling rather speechless.

Chen Siqi gave me a faint smile, then bent at the waist and cupped his hands in a formal bow. “This humble scholar is He Sheng. Greetings, my lady.”

Well, well.

Looks like this one really was a pile of old bones.
