Chapter 5
Chapter 5
Song Cheng arrived just in time, striding up behind me.
The woman panicked a little when she saw him. After all, with those two full-sleeve tattoos, Song Cheng looked downright fierce.
“Pay you back? Why should I pay you? Calling out a homewrecker is perfectly justified.”
Song Cheng opened his mouth, about to keep arguing with her, but I grabbed him and said coldly, “Who are you calling a homewrecker?”
“Isn’t it you? You stole someone else’s boyfriend and then had the nerve to show off.”
Aunt Wang sighed, took out her phone, and showed it to me. “You’re not in this homeowners’ group chat. Yesterday, someone posted screenshots of her chat with your man, saying they’d been dating for six months, only for her boyfriend to marry you.”
I glanced at the phone and immediately recognized Ren Weiwei’s profile picture.
Why was this woman still haunting me?
“Nothing to say now, huh?”
The woman was still making snide remarks from the side. I asked Aunt Wang to add me to the group, and while I was at it, I took photos of the chat records.
After Song Cheng looked at the phone, his expression turned even uglier. He said coldly to the woman, “Susu and I dated for three years and have been married for one. Everything between us is legal and aboveboard.”
“If a child isn’t taught properly, the fault lies with the parents. Your child did something wrong, so you have to pay for it. Don’t take your misery out on innocent people just because you feel wronged. My wife isn’t someone you can bully whenever you want.”
The woman flew into a rage out of embarrassment. “You’re just protecting a homewrecker!”
“Shut up.”
My voice was ice-cold. “I’ve already recorded this. If you keep insulting me and spreading rumors, I’ll take the evidence and sue you too.”
“Tch. Who are you trying to scare?”
She claimed she wasn’t afraid, but her voice grew much quieter.
“What you’ve been through is pitiful, but that doesn’t give you the right to attack other people. You’re a mother. You should set a good example for your child and teach him to tell right from wrong, not drag him into your emotions and make him vent your resentment with you.”
“Stop acting so high and mighty!”
The woman grabbed the child and left in a hurry. After thanking Aunt Wang, I turned and went home. At this point, I had no mood to go grocery shopping.
Song Cheng followed behind me, trying to talk to me, but when he saw my expression, he didn’t dare open his mouth. Only after we got inside did he say quietly,
“Honey, I’ll definitely handle this!
“If I don’t, you can toss me into the bathtub and use me as a turtle.”
I glared at him. The more I looked at his face, the angrier I got. “Tomorrow, you’re getting plastic surgery. The uglier, the better. You attract trouble every single day, and I’m the one who gets cursed out for it.”
Song Cheng’s attitude was completely sincere. “I’ll do it! Tomorrow I’ll get whatever work you want. Put a mouth on my forehead and two eyeballs on my mouth. Whatever you say goes.
“It’s all my fault. Come on, baby, don’t be mad. Getting wrinkles over this isn’t worth it.
“Tonight I’ll make you chicken stewed with mushrooms. Mom brought over that little free-range chicken. Later, wife, you just focus on eating. Your husband will go curse them out for you.”
That evening, I sat there with my bowl and watched Song Cheng confront Ren Weiwei in the group chat. After Ren Weiwei left the group, he still wasn’t done being angry, so he called out the family that had splashed water on me during the day and gave them a fierce scolding too.
“Next time anyone makes my wife angry, ask the river-crossing dragon on my back if it agrees first.”
Seeing that line made my forehead tighten. Song Cheng: a man who could always make you feel touched and embarrassed at the same time.
“River-crossing dragon? Have you forgotten how Mom chased you through four blocks to beat you up after you got that tattoo?”
“You heartless little thing. Who was it that said she loved tough guys with sleeve tattoos? That tattoo hurt like hell, and when Mom beat me, you didn’t stop her at all. I was loyal enough, wasn’t I? I still haven’t ratted you out to this day.”
Hearing that, I couldn’t help laughing. Song Cheng had gotten that tattoo back when he was pursuing me.
I’d posted on social media that I was really into tough guys with sleeve tattoos lately. A week later, he went and got his entire back tattooed, and my mother-in-law gave him one hell of a beating for it.
Then he grimaced through the pain and sent me a photo. “Just tell me this guy looks handsome or not!”
That was Song Cheng: tacky, yet so very gentle.
