Chapter 9

Tang Dong ran all the way out of the residential complex’s main gate.

Li Ding, a driver working under him, was waiting in the car. Seeing Tang Dong get in alone, Li Ding’s face immediately fell. “President Tang, Brother Long still didn’t agree?”

Tang Dong panted heavily for a long while before his racing heart finally began to settle. Just moments ago, he truly felt like Long Changdong wanted to kill him. That already terrifying face had looked more like a vicious ghost crawling out of hell.

“Fuck him. If he won’t do it, then forget it. I gave him enough face as it is!”

Li Ding heard this and said with a bitter expression, “But if Brother Long doesn’t come, who’s going to handle the Chong Sha?

“Xiao Ma is still in the hospital, and Lao Zhang and the others don’t dare to make the run. I heard yesterday that Da Hua, the one hauling construction materials, didn’t even make it halfway before something happened. His truck was only towed back this morning.”

“Let Xie Peng do it!” Tang Dong said, frowning. “Xie Peng has guts. He’s been in and out of the precinct several times; he doesn’t believe in that superstitious crap.”

“But Xie Peng-”

Li Ding instinctively felt it was inappropriate. Xie Peng was brave, sure, but the man himself was wicked. He would do anything for a bit of money. Li Ding always felt that people like that only lacked fear because they hadn’t encountered anything truly sinister yet. Once they did, Heaven certainly wouldn’t protect them, and it would likely end in a major disaster.

Back when Long Changdong was running the company, someone had recommended Xie Peng. Long Changdong had refused to hire him, feeling the man lacked character.

“Enough, it’s him! I’ll pay him double, he’ll be more than happy!”

Tang Dong stopped listening to Li Ding’s nagging and made the final call. “It’s just a Chong Sha. All you need is guts! That Long Changdong didn’t give me any face. Once this is over, I’ll make sure he learns his lesson!”

After working as a delivery driver for a few days, I took another job from the agent Wang Ming to cleanse haunted houses.

I had known Wang Ming for quite some time. He had just started his job when I first bought my apartment. Seeing that he was from the countryside, wasn’t very well-spoken, and couldn’t compete for clients, I specifically requested him to show me around. Later, I became his first client.

I never expected that after I fell on hard times, he would be the first one to lend a helping hand.

Wang Ming had tried to cleanse haunted houses himself before. However, it might have been due to his constitution, but he fell ill every time he did it. When he introduced the job to me, he repeatedly emphasized that if I felt anything was wrong, I should run immediately and not worry about anything else.

This time, the job was a small two-story house. It wasn’t quite a villa and was located in an urban village. A family of three had been murdered by a burglar, but the killer hadn’t managed to escape; the male homeowner had killed the intruder right before he died.

Wang Ming was especially terrified when he dropped me off. His legs were shaking, yet he insisted on staying.

“Brother, this time is different. In the past, there were only innocent residents. This time, there’s a vicious criminal involved. It’s not safe for you to be alone.”

I was amused by him, so I didn’t chase him away.
