Chapter 6

A sudden whirlwind swept across the level ground.

The row of willow trees planted beside the graves seemed to spring to life, lashing out at me with their branches.

I pulled the Soul-Striking Whip from my waist and cracked it through the air.

A sharp, crisp crack echoed!

As if possessing a collective consciousness, the willow branches recoiled simultaneously.

I seized the opportunity to reach into the coffin and grope for the lighter.

When I touched the “corpse,” my heart skipped a beat. These things looked like tree roots, but they felt soft to the touch. They even had patterns on them that looked like veins.

I spotted the lighter wedged in a gap between two roots. As I reached for it, the roots suddenly writhed, coiling around my right hand and pulling down with immense force!

“Mr. Long!”

Li Xia’s shout drifted down from above, accompanied by Chen Mengmeng’s incessant snarling.

The willow branches pressed down once more, their countless sharp twigs aiming straight for my body.

I knew this was a matter of life and death!

Steeling my resolve, I reversed my grip on the roots coiled around me and yanked back with all my might-

The moment I pulled that “body” up, my vision blurred.

For a fleeting second, it felt as though the thing I was dragging out of the coffin was a person!

Even the surrounding scenery changed.

The desolate graves transformed into a sprawling, grand estate.

Countless people crowded around us.

The person in front of me was even dressed in a bright red wedding robe.

I saw them burying screaming girls one after another into tree pits. They sealed the girls’ five orifices and filled the holes with rich soil. The willow trees that grew from those spots were hauntingly beautiful.

Innumerable people knelt in worship toward the willow roots.

A chubby male infant was held high in the air.

The faces of those people were filled with longing and greed. Yet, within moments, their expressions turned vacant. Then, they all turned their heads in unison to look at me!

A bone-chilling cold and a piercing shriek snapped me back to reality instantly.

I felt a wave of pure malice and foul intent. A killing intent surged within me. I had been like this since I was a child-the more dire the situation, the less I feared. If I were to die a violent death here, I would surely become a ghost more formidable than any fierce specter, a spirit more malevolent than any evil soul!

I gave the Soul-Striking Whip in my left hand a powerful shake. The eleven sections of peach wood locked together, ring by ring. Without worrying whether it could withstand the strain, I grabbed the “corpse” and thrust the whip into it with a vicious stab!

To my surprise, the purely wooden Soul-Striking Whip felt as hard as iron at that moment. It pierced straight through the “corpse.”

The willow branches that had already torn through my clothes retracted with a sudden whoosh. I thought I heard a scream as the whirlwind that had risen from the ground vanished into thin air.

I reached out and snatched the falling lighter.
