Chapter 14
Chapter 14
The rain gradually intensified, and the number of cars on the road dwindled.
I maintained a steady speed. As 9:00 PM approached, I saw hazard lights flashing on the shoulder ahead. It looked like an accident.
Li Ding kept his face pressed against the window, trying to see how bad the crash was, but as we drew closer, the flashing lights vanished.
There was nothing on the roadside except for a hollowed-out shell of a bus sitting behind the guardrail, likely placed there by the traffic department.
A massive dent marked the middle of the bus, a clear sign that it had once been involved in a horrific collision.
A sign stood nearby: [Drive Safely. Your Life Depends on It.]
Li Ding’s face turned pale again. The bus had no license plate, so there was no way to tell if it was the 219.
I glanced at his expression and felt like laughing. I really wondered how he had managed to drive heavy trucks for so long.
“You should go back to sleep. I can handle this.”
It took a long time before Li Ding spoke up sluggishly. “Brother Long, I finally understand why you’re able to handle Chong Sha.”
At midnight, Li Ding suddenly woke up. He asked me in a low voice from the back seat, “Brother Long, have we passed Shuanglong Tunnel yet?”
I shook my head. “Not yet.”
Li Ding fell silent for a long while. I knew he must be scared again.
We had been driving in shifts without any rest. Logically, we should have reached Shuanglong Tunnel around 10:00 PM.
“Brother Long, do you think we can make it back?”
“Of course we can.”
I stared straight ahead. The headlights reflected off the falling rain. I hadn’t seen another car pass for a long time; the world around us was eerily silent.
“Brother Long, do you think Tang Dong and the others might already be dead?”
Li Ding gradually crawled toward the back of my seat. As he spoke, puffs of cold air brushed against my neck.
“If they’re alive, I’ll find them. If they’re dead, I’ll find their bodies,” I replied coldly.
“Have you ever seen a corpse?
“You’ve driven for so many years-do you know what it feels like when the wheels crush a human body?”
Li Ding’s questions were getting weirder and weirder. I glanced in the rearview mirror and suddenly realized I couldn’t see his face!
Just as I was wondering where he went, his head tilted sideways and extended past the back of my seat, poking out right next to my neck. His pale eyes stared fixedly at me-
I gripped the steering wheel with one hand and drew the Soul-Striking Whip from my waist with the other, snapping it back at him!
The lash landed squarely on Li Ding’s face. He let out a howl and yanked his head back!
He seemed to wake up with a start, thrashing around in the back seat.
“What happened? What happened? Who hit me?”

Don’t Look Out the Window!
Back when I drove heavy-duty trucks, I was often the one to lead the way down new, untested routes. In the industry, we call this “Chong Sha.”
