I had been on the job for more than half a month.

That day, Wei Siyu had a dinner banquet on his schedule.

Restless with anticipation, I watched the time draw near. Finally, I could go in and remind him.

“President, the banquet is about to start. Is there anything else that needs to be prepared?”

My eyes darted around. “For example… should we go pick up your date in advance?”

Wei Siyu looked up from his documents and glanced at his watch.

“What date? You can just come with me.”

The huge stone weighing on my heart dropped to the ground, and I let out a long breath.

For a second there, I thought he was going with Miss Lin.

Unfortunately, I didn’t get to be happy for long before Wei Siyu took me straight to the banquet venue.

I confirmed with him again and again. “We’re just going in like this?”

No styling? No outfit change?

Wei Siyu looked confused. His gaze swept over my professional suit.

“It’s a work event. Isn’t this perfectly fine?”

The next second, realization dawned on him.

The corner of Wei Siyu’s mouth curved into a faint smile. “So that’s why you asked about a date.

“Don’t tell me you thought you were coming as my date?”

His smile deepened, carrying the smugness of someone who had finally scored a point against his ex-girlfriend.

“You’re overthinking it.

“Stay close, little assistant.”

I was so angry my teeth itched.

After we went inside, just as Wei Siyu had said, he was purely here to talk business.

During my time at his company, I had also learned quite a bit about the situation.

After Wei Siyu finished his advanced studies and returned to the country, he took over the company directly from his father.

He was young, and on top of that, it was a family business. Plenty of relatives and old-timers were watching him like wolves.

Right now, he urgently needed to achieve something and establish his footing.

After Wei Siyu greeted a group of seniors, he began seeking out company heads who might be interested in cooperating.

Everything had been going perfectly fine until the man across from us, also a young talent, President Rong, suddenly said meaningfully,

“President Wei truly is young and accomplished. The secretary by your side is also quite beautiful and charming.”

Wei Siyu’s face darkened, and he stepped in front of me, blocking me behind him.

“Sorry, something urgent has come up. We’ll be leaving first.”

Behind him, I frantically shot looks at Rong Lian.

Seeing that Wei Siyu was about to leave, I panicked and grabbed him.

“We know each other. He was joking.”

Rong Lian’s upturned fox-like eyes were full of innocence. “But Secretary Song really is very pretty. Why are you getting so worked up, President Wei?”

Wei Siyu looked serious. “We were discussing business, yet you suddenly decided to comment on my secretary’s appearance.

“My apologies. It seems I misunderstood. So you know each other.”

Wei Siyu continued unhurriedly, “I thought it was harassment.”

A faint smell of gunpowder filled the air.

Until a woman’s voice broke the silence.

“Brother Siyu, I finally found you!”

The woman approaching gracefully was probably that legendary Miss Lin.

Her smile was sweet. “You came to the banquet, so why didn’t you tell me?”
