Chapter 1

Wei Siyu was still as good at holding grudges as ever.

I smiled and gave a polite little bow.

Honestly, getting to see him today was already an unexpected bonus.

So I wasn’t discouraged by the rejection. I simply turned to leave.

“Wait.”

The voice behind me sounded like it was being forced through gritted teeth.

“Is this the extent of Miss Song’s determination to join our company?”

A faint flush of anger rose over Wei Siyu’s cold, handsome face, and the mature authority around him instantly scattered quite a bit.

How was he still the same as he had been in high school, unable to keep his cool?

“Of course not. My desire to join the company is extremely strong. This is the opportunity I’ve always dreamed of.”

My gaze was sincerity itself.

Wei Siyu let out a cold snort and said nothing more.

Another interviewer took over the rest of the process.

I had come well prepared, so naturally, I answered every question smoothly.

Just when it looked like my employment was all but guaranteed, Wei Siyu butted in again.

“Does Miss Song know what position she’s interviewing for?”

I nodded. “Yes. The CEO’s secretary.”

The sneer at the corner of Wei Siyu’s mouth deepened.

“Before coming here, you didn’t bother checking who the CEO was?”

Seeing how much he cared, I couldn’t hold back the urge to tease him.

“I did. I thought it might just be someone with the same name, but I didn’t expect it to really be my ex…”

Wei Siyu’s lips pressed into a tight line. The arm he had been resting lazily on the table suddenly stood out with bulging veins.

Only then did I drawl out the last two words.

“Desk mate.”

The look Wei Siyu gave me was practically shooting flames.

The other interviewer sensed something off between us and wiped the sweat from his forehead.

“Miss Song Yuanxing, your résumé is excellent. Please go home and wait for our notification.”

“She’s the one.”

Wei Siyu made the decision on the spot, enunciating every word. “We have to give my former desk mate a little preferential treatment.”

I didn’t panic in the slightest. Instead, I winked at him.

“Thank you.”

I had just left the office and rounded the corner when Wei Siyu caught up with me.

“Aren’t you curious why I chose you?”

I didn’t blush at all. “Of course it’s because I’m outstanding.”

Wei Siyu was furious. “Song Yuanxing, you’re still as conceited as ever.”

I stopped and gave him a meaningful look.

“What else could it be? It couldn’t possibly be because someone wants to rekindle an old flame with me, right, ex-boyfriend?”

Wei Siyu’s face darkened at once.

“You think too highly of yourself.

“I chose you only so I can get revenge on you. So I can torment you.

“Song Yuanxing, I’m giving you one last chance. You can choose not to report for work.”

He lifted his chin high, as proud as he had ever been.

But the image that flashed through my mind was of him begging humbly.

Someone as proud as Wei Siyu had once lowered his head to me too. He had said, “Can we not break up?”

Wei Siyu mistook my daze for fear.

His fingers tightened secretly, but his mouth still refused to let me off easy.

“If you’re scared, then don’t come provoking me again.”

I smiled and sighed. “Wei Siyu, you’re still the same as before too.”

Even by the time we reached the company entrance, I still hadn’t finished that sentence.

Wei Siyu was extremely annoyed. “Still the same as before how, exactly?”

I raised my hand to wave goodbye, then gave him a mysterious smile.

“Take me off your blacklist, and I’ll tell you.”
