Chapter 4
Chapter 4
The low mood was only temporary.
I quickly pulled myself together. After all, I had never been the type to admit defeat easily.
Without a word, I took out my phone and, with a perfectly composed expression, began slacking off.
I carefully scanned through the screenshots of Wei Siyu’s Moments, bit by bit.
Most of his posts were late-night emo ramblings, with the occasional landscape photo.
I didn’t find anyone who looked remotely like Miss Lin. I couldn’t even find a woman.
Among all those posts, one was very strange.
Wei Siyu hadn’t written a single word. There was only a pitch-black image.
After thinking for a moment, I slowly turned my phone brightness all the way up.
Tiny white specks, like dust, gradually appeared, then began to shine.
I froze.
So it was a starry sky.
There were two light taps on my desk. At some point, Wei Siyu had come up behind me.
His gaze was unfriendly. “Secretary Song, it’s your first day at work and you’re already bold enough to slack off?”
Not only was I slacking off, I was also stalking my boss.
Out of reflex, I was about to turn off the screen, but I forcibly stopped myself.
The screenshots of Wei Siyu’s Moments were displayed there in all their glory.
I apologized out loud, but my eyes stayed fixed on him.
I was curious what his reaction would be.
Unexpectedly, Wei Siyu merely swept a careless glance over the screen, his tone cool.
“Do it again, and I’ll dock your pay.”
I let out a disappointed “Oh.”
For the rest of the time, I worked listlessly.
Wei Siyu didn’t pay attention to other people’s emotions, except for those he cared about.
Thinking about how indifferent he’d been to me all day, I couldn’t help starting to lose confidence.
It was true that I really wanted to win him back.
But I was even more afraid that clinging to him would make him hate me.
Maybe the emotional fluctuation he’d shown toward me on the day of the interview had only been a flash in the pan.
I sighed inwardly and didn’t notice my phone vibrate once.
It wasn’t until it vibrated several more times in a row that I realized Wei Siyu had taken me off his blacklist again.
[I’ll dock it next time. I didn’t dock it this time.]
[Transfer: 10,000 yuan.]
[Go downstairs and buy me a coffee. While you’re at it, adjust your mood. Be a little happier.]
[Don’t overthink it. I just don’t want your gloomy mood affecting the overall office atmosphere.]
It was as if I’d been fully recharged. I answered him with renewed energy.
[Okay! Do you need anything else besides coffee?]
Separated from me by a single set of blinds, Wei Siyu replied very quickly.
[No. Keep the rest as your errand fee.]
My memory flashed back to those years.
When Wei Siyu saw that I’d only gotten two vegetarian dishes for lunch, he asked me to bring him water in exchange for the right to use his meal card.
With an arrogant look on his face, he said, “If I’m giving it to you, just take it. Rich people like us never make others work for free.”
Back then, I had accepted it without hesitation.
If a rich person was letting me fleece him, why wouldn’t I?
Now, I couldn’t help looking through the window at Wei Siyu on the other side.
I wanted to tell him that I no longer needed to scrimp and save like I had before.
During my senior year of college, I had invested my technical skills as equity and started a small company with classmates from my department.
Over the past few years, I’d already achieved financial freedom. That was why I had the courage to switch jobs and come find the person I once thought I couldn’t hold on to.
There was so much I wanted to say, but unfortunately, neither the timing nor the setting was right. So all I did was smile happily at Wei Siyu.
He cared about me. He still cared about me.
I felt like I could do this again.
