Chapter 5

Countless gazes shifted onto me.

Gossiping, probing, scrutinizing…

Yin Wan, completely unaware, ran toward me. “Sister-in-law, I brought you a present.”

“You’ve got the wrong person.”

“Huh?” Yin Wan blinked in confusion. “No, I don’t. You’re-”

Yin Boyu’s hand suddenly clamped around the back of her head.

And cut off the words she had almost blurted out.

“Stop making a scene. Come with me.”

Yin Boyu dragged her away.

Our gazes crossed for the briefest instant, but neither of us said a word.

Only after they left did my parents ask, “Why did she call you sister-in-law?”

“She must have mistaken me for someone else,” I answered calmly.

After that, no matter who came to ask, I gave the same answer with a perfectly sincere expression.

I managed to smooth over that little episode without a hitch.

When the reception was about to end, someone who had had too much to drink accidentally spilled wine all over me.

They kept apologizing.

I said it was fine, all while quietly letting out a breath of relief.

At last, I had an excuse to leave the venue.

I slipped into the lounge, planning to take off my gown.

Because I kept my head lowered the whole time, I didn’t notice there was someone else in the room.

The skirt was very long.

I tripped and fell straight onto the sofa.

A strong, powerful hand caught me by the waist.

The familiar scent of snowy pine drifted to my nose.

“Yin Boyu?”

He averted his eyes and said coolly, “There’s really no need.”

“What?”

“Stripping the second you walk into a room… There’s really no need.”

I looked down and only then realized.

My dress was already half off, the neckline slipped down to my chest, revealing just enough to look like I was trying and failing to cover myself.

A pale expanse of skin. Forget him-even I found it a little stimulating to look at.

I said, “I didn’t see you here.”

“An excuse?”

I shook my head, leaned close to his ear, and deliberately breathed against it. “If I’d seen you, I wouldn’t have stopped at this much.”

Yin Boyu’s expression didn’t change.

Only the sudden curl of his fingers betrayed what was going on inside.

“Trying the same old trick again?”

He was talking about how, back then, I had seduced him-and successfully married him.

“I wouldn’t dare. You’re about to become my brother-in-law, after all.”

“Who said that?” Yin Boyu’s brows drew together. “Meng Weiyue and I are impossible.”

“Impossible? Then why did you pick her up from school? You have that much free time?”

“I went to the school to discuss something and happened to run into Meng Weiyue. She said she was going to find you. Since we were headed to the same place, I gave her a ride.”

“Then you drove her around late at night?”

“Drove her around?”

Yin Boyu thought for a moment, then realized what I meant.

I was talking about the night Meng Weiyue and he came to find me together.

“They said you still hadn’t gone home. I came out immediately. Meng Weiyue volunteered to come look with me-”

He paused, then didn’t bother explaining further.

“I didn’t expect you to call that driving her around.”

His furrowed brows suddenly smoothed out, and he looked at me with unruffled composure.

“Mianmian, are you jealous?”

“Yes. So what?”

My answer was extremely straightforward.

Mianmian was my childhood nickname.

I got it simply because the place that adopted me produced cotton.

It wasn’t exactly a name with much cultural depth, but after using it for so long, I couldn’t be bothered to change it.

“Back to the question from earlier. You are trying the same old trick again.”

This time, I didn’t deny it.

Instead, I curved my eyes into a smile. “Help me pull down the zipper in the back.”

“Find someone else.”

He stood, intending to draw a clear line between us.

“Fine. Then I’ll call your nephew in.”

Yin Boyu’s eyes darkened in an instant.

He turned around and yanked the zipper down in one motion.

I stood almost completely naked in front of him.

Just then, there was a knock at the door.

“Yusang, are you done changing? I’ll take you home.”

It was Liang Huaiyuan.

Yin Boyu and I looked at each other.

“I think I forgot to lock the door,” I said softly.

My voice was very quiet, but Liang Huaiyuan still heard it.

“Yusang, who are you talking to? Is someone else in there?”

When I didn’t answer for a long while, he suddenly turned the handle, ready to come in.

“My youngest uncle is Yin Boyu. You’ve heard of him, right?”

My blind date asked the question with a hint of contempt.

“I have.”

“He’s...
