Chapter 3
Chapter 3
Whenever I wore silver jewelry, a large red rash would break out all over my neck.
During my first week in the Meng Family, Meng Weiyue forced a silver necklace around my neck.
She called it a welcome gift.
When my neck began flushing madly red, she widened her innocent eyes and said,
“Sister, I didn’t know it was silver. I thought it was some other metal.”
At the hospital, Mom and Dad even tried to persuade me. “Your sister meant well. Be the bigger person. What’s there to make such a fuss about?”
Whatever Meng Weiyue did was right.
Before I came home, she had been their only daughter, showered with all their love.
After I came home, my parents were afraid she would be unhappy, so they favored her even more.
Mom and Dad always said, Your sister is so pitiful. Aside from us, she has no family.
But wasn’t I pitiful too?
In this world, not a single person saw me as family.
“Meng Yusang?”
Liang Huaiyuan’s voice pulled me back from my thoughts.
“What are you thinking about? Tell me.”
It seemed like he really had taken an interest in me.
“I’m allergic to silver. Meng Weiyue knew that. She deliberately had you buy me that necklace.”
“Huh?” Liang Huaiyuan froze. “Maybe she forgot. Your sister probably isn’t that kind of person…”
His first instinct was to defend Meng Weiyue.
I couldn’t be bothered to waste any more words. I picked up my bag and left.
Liang Huaiyuan chased after me for a while.
But I didn’t even want to spare him a glance.
I returned to the Meng Family villa.
The windows were open, and the sound of laughter from the family of three drifted out.
Meng Weiyue was on summer break.
In a spoiled voice, she asked, “Mom, now that Sister is back, does that mean you don’t love me anymore?”
Mom said affectionately, “Silly girl, what nonsense are you talking about? Blood ties can never compare to twenty years of love.”
Dad chimed in too. “That’s right. Back then, we named you Weiyue because it meant you were the one and only moon of our Meng Family.”
Meng Weiyue giggled at that.
The father who had always been strict with me now asked with boundless indulgence,
“Daddy will cook personally tomorrow. What does our little princess want to eat?”
How gentle.
A gentleness I had never seen before.
After hesitating for a moment, I decided not to go inside yet.
I wandered the streets of City A alone.
Everything felt so unfamiliar.
Half a year ago, when they found me, I thought I had finally found a home.
Only later did I understand.
It was just another way of living under someone else’s roof.
I laughed at myself and reached into my pocket for a cigarette.
But all I pulled out was a lollipop.
A year ago, for someone’s sake, I had deliberately quit smoking.
The lollipop was very sweet, sharp against my taste buds.
Without my noticing, a tall, slender shadow stopped beside me.
I looked up and met Yin Boyu’s strikingly handsome face.
“I heard you rejected Liang Huaiyuan’s gift.”
No small talk. No greeting.
After our reunion, this was the first thing he said to me.
“Yes. What about it?”
“Weiyue helped pick that gift. Liang Huaiyuan went to ask her about it, and now she feels wronged. She’s crying and throwing a fit.”
It had already been an hour since the date ended.
Liang Huaiyuan was really slow on the uptake.
“So? Are you here to avenge your precious little sister?”
Yin Boyu said nothing.
The metal buttons on his suit gleamed coldly under the streetlights.
“I just wanted to ask why you didn’t want the gift.”
“My neck is sensitive. I can’t wear that kind of thing. I thought you knew.”
I smiled softly, leaned closer to him, and said,
“After all, you used to love kissing my neck…
“Back when we were husband and wife.”

“My youngest uncle is Yin Boyu. You’ve heard of him, right?”
My blind date asked the question with a hint of contempt.
“I have.”
