Chapter 95

At this moment, only Ning Xi and Xie Lanchen remained at the table, staring at each other.

The bathrooms in all four houses had already been occupied by the other guests.

“Xiao Xie…”

“Teacher Ning…”

The two of them spoke at the same time, their expressions somewhat complicated.

[Don’t tell me these two have diarrhea too? But there are no empty toilets left.]

“Xiao Xie, if you need to use the bathroom, just tell me. I’ll drag Fu Zhi out,” Ning Xi offered.

With only four toilets, everyone would have to take turns.

“Get lost!” Fu Zhi’s roar erupted from inside the bathroom.

Ning Xi hissed, “You’re getting awfully bossy about a toilet. There are only four of them, and you’ve been in there forever. You can’t just let everyone else ruin their pants, can you?”

Xie Lanchen paused for a moment before saying softly, “I was actually going to say that if you need the bathroom, Teacher Ning, you could go to the neighbors at House No. 4. They’re very easy to get along with.”

Ning Xi waved her hand. “No need. I don’t feel the urge yet.”

Xie Lanchen nodded. “Me neither. I don’t feel any discomfort at all.”

He placed a particular emphasis on that last sentence.

And so, the two of them sat there, eyes locked, waiting for the “launch.”

Eventually, Ning Xi grew bored. She picked up her chopsticks and began eating again.

She even critiqued the food as she ate. “Xiao Xie, this sweet and sour pork you made is delicious! The braised eggplant is great too!”

Xie Lanchen hadn’t expected Ning Xi to actually keep eating. He spoke hesitantly, “Aren’t you worried this food will make you feel sick?”

Ning Xi chewed away. “Since I’m going to have the runs sooner or later anyway, I might as well eat my fill so I have the strength to deal with it.”

She continued chewing. “Besides, the diarrhea might not even be because of these dishes. We shouldn’t let them go to waste.”

[Eat up, eat up, you little glutton.]

[The words are crude, but the logic is sound. Still, that’s way too crude.]

[Ning Xi: I can give up on life, but I can’t give up on a performance.]

Xie Lanchen fell silent for a few seconds. Then, he also picked up his chopsticks and started eating with Ning Xi.

Ning Xi gave him an appreciative look, and her chewing speed increased slightly.

Xie Lanchen: …

He slowed his pace, noticing which dishes Ning Xi preferred and intentionally avoiding them.

The two of them managed to polish off most of the spread.

Even after finishing, neither showed any symptoms of stomach pain.

[Holy crap, these two have stomachs of iron.]

[This is a high-level play.]

Just then, Fu Zhi emerged from the bathroom, leaning against the wall for support.

His lips were pale, his steps weak and unsteady, and his entire body looked as if he had just been fished out of a river.

Ning Xi immediately put on a concerned face. “Are you tired? How about you eat something before heading back to the toilet?”

Fu Zhi closed his eyes.

A sickly body, heartless friends, and a fragile him.

He had never been this exhausted in his entire life.

“How about some digestive tablets?” Seeing that Fu Zhi didn’t want to talk, Ning Xi handed him the tablets she had found earlier.

Xie Lanchen opened his mouth as if to speak but stopped.

Fu Zhi glanced at them, his hollow eyes becoming even more lifeless. “These digestive tablets are… for… an-i-mals.”

Ning Xi slapped her forehead. “I didn’t look closely just now! So they aren’t for humans? My mistake.”

Fu Zhi: …

[Fu Zhi: The only reason I’m still alive is pure luck.]

[The Princess: Do I absolutely have to die today?]

[Ning Xi really raised Fu Zhi well. (Moved)]

[Wang Changling really raised Li Kui well. (Moved)]

The three people who had gone out to find other toilets also returned to the table one after another, their faces pale.

Qin Se remained relatively calm, showing no excess emotion.
Jiang Sheshe clutched her waist, grumbling and complaining, “What’s going on? Who poisoned me?”

Wei Xuan, on the other hand, had a look of detached numbness, as if his grief were greater than the fear of death itself.

After all, he never imagined in his life that he would ever be so desperate that he’d have to use the bathroom in someone else’s house.

Once Qin Se had composed her emotions, she took the initiative to speak. “Does everyone remember what we just ate? I think some kind of food might have caused this diarrhea.”

“Was it this cold salad? When I was eating it just now, I thought it was too sour. It wasn’t good,” Jiang Sheshe said, curling her lip.

Ning Xi countered, “But Xiao Xie and I ate a lot of that salad too, and we’re both fine.”

Fu Zhi chimed in, “Can your stomach of iron even be compared to a normal person’s?”

A normal person would be done after eating two or three popsicles in a day, but when Ning Xi was a child, she could eat ten. Even if she drank an entire crate of beverages in a day, she never felt any discomfort.

Qin Se was also lost in thought.

In her memory, Ning Xi did indeed have a great appetite and a sturdy constitution. Back when they went to a high-altitude region to film a variety show, everyone else was down for the count with vomiting and diarrhea, yet Ning Xi was still able to film with the strength of an ox.

Therefore, Ning Xi’s situation wasn’t a valid reference point at all.

“Is Mr. Xie not feeling any discomfort either?” Qin Se turned to look at Xie Lanchen.

Xie Lanchen remained silent.

According to his family, he had been very delicate during the first few months after he was born; he frequently caught colds, had fevers, possessed sensitive skin, and was prone to allergies. The slightest noise would wake him up.

However, from the time his memories began, whether it was a doghouse or a cage, he could fall asleep as long as he was tired. As for food, regardless of whether it was clean or dirty, fresh or expired, as long as he could swallow it, he was already satisfied.

“No, my constitution has always been very good,” Xie Lanchen replied calmly.

“We should have the Program Team send all the food for testing. It’s all their fault for making us film a variety show in this place! If something really happens to us, the Program Team won’t be able to escape responsibility!”

Jiang Sheshe resentfully picked up her mung bean soup, wanting to take a sip.

Qin Se’s gaze fell on Jiang Sheshe’s mung bean soup, and she suddenly asked, “Miss Jiang, how did you make this iced mung bean soup?”

When she had tasted it earlier, she’d felt a strange sense of familiarity.

Wei Xuan, who had been silent all this time, finally focused his attention on Jiang Sheshe. He knew Sheshe’s cooking skills well; it was already a blessing if she didn’t blow up the kitchen. Yet this iced mung bean soup wasn’t burnt, and the sweetness was actually just right.

It didn’t seem like something Sheshe could have made at all.

Suddenly asked about the recipe, Jiang Sheshe glanced at Wei Xuan and guiltily looked away.

“Mung bean soup… you just have to boil it. Why?”

[Nothing wrong with that. Boiling mung beans and boiling mung bean popsicles both count as boiling.]

Qin Se looked thoughtful.

Wei Xuan, however, had already detected something unusual from Jiang Sheshe’s expression. His tone turned serious.

“Sheshe, how exactly did you make it?!”

Jiang Sheshe stammered, “Well… I originally wanted to boil the mung bean soup myself, but then I accidentally burnt it. But I still wanted everyone to have some, so I ordered takeout, but then the delivery rider spilled it, so…”

Ning Xi was rendered speechless by Jiang Sheshe’s inability to get to the point. She cut straight to the chase:

“This is mung bean soup made from melted mung bean popsicles!”

Jiang Sheshe nodded like a chick pecking at grain. “Right, right, right! That was the final result!”

Everyone: …They truly never saw that coming.

Outside the screen, Director Qin’s eyes filled with tears. “Oh, heavens! Finally, someone has cleared my name! It was clearly Jiang Sheshe and Ning Xi’s doing! And yet, this Jiang Sheshe actually turned around and tried to sue our Program Team!”

It was simply the world turned upside down!
