Chapter 75
Chapter 75
Fu Zhi and Ning Xi had been fighting like cats and dogs just moments ago, yet here they were, sitting together playing a game.
Wei Xuan, who had already gone to rest, was dragged back to act as their Referee.
“The two of you will take turns asking each other ‘What sound does this animal make?’ If you can’t answer immediately, the winner splashes water, and the loser uses a prop to shield their face. The game continues until one person’s face is completely soaked.”
[Good heavens, ‘completely soaked.’ I can already imagine how intense this is going to be.]
[Fu Zhi, oh Fu Zhi, what were you thinking, trying to play a game with Ning Xi?]
“Referee! Can I prepare my own splashing tool?” Ning Xi raised her hand.
“?”
With a sinister grin, Ning Xi placed a large basin on the table, creating a sharp contrast with the small disposable cups Wei Xuan had prepared.
Fu Zhi and Wei Xuan: “…”
“Are there any bigger basins? I want to change my tool too!” Fu Zhi stood up to go look for one.
“Then I’m going to find a bucket!” Ning Xi stood up as well.
A vein throbbed on Wei Xuan’s forehead. “Stop looking! You can only use the small disposable cups!”
Ning Xi and Fu Zhi looked at each other, their faces filled with nothing but disappointment.
Wei Xuan took a deep breath and silently moved his stool back, putting some distance between himself and these two game maniacs.
“Game start!”
Ning Xi and Fu Zhi spoke at the same time:
“What sound does an animal make? A puppy!”
“What sound does an animal make? A kitten!”
“I started first, okay?”
“Why do you get to go first?”
[They have zero chemistry in everything they do, which is a kind of chemistry in itself.]
Wei Xuan rubbed his forehead, wondering how they managed to start an argument the second the game began.
He understood even less why his past self from a few minutes ago hadn’t just saved face and refused the request to be their Referee.
“Fine, Rock-Paper-Scissors. Whoever wins goes first.”
Neither Ning Xi nor Fu Zhi objected to this solution.
After one round of Rock-Paper-Scissors, Ning Xi emerged victorious and took the lead.
“What sound does an animal make? A puppy!”
“Woof woof,” Fu Zhi answered and immediately followed up, “What sound does an animal make? A kitten!”
“Meow meow,” Ning Xi continued. “What sound does an animal make? An alpaca!”
Fu Zhi froze for a second.
Without a hint of hesitation, Ning Xi picked up a cup of water and splashed it in Fu Zhi’s face. Her movements were fast, precise, and ruthless.
Fu Zhi grabbed a pot lid to shield himself while shouting, “It’s ‘tui tui’!”
“Too late!” Ning Xi’s expression was cold and stern, the image of an impartial judge.
Fu Zhi wiped his half-drenched face and decided to endure it to keep the game going.
“What sound does an animal make? A bear!”
He didn’t believe Ning Xi could come up with that one!
“Briar! Briar! Logger Vick is back to cut down trees!” Ning Xi mimicked Bramble’s voice.
“? That counts?”
“Why wouldn’t it? Tell me, is that or is that not the sound he makes?!” Ning Xi tilted her chin up.
“Fine. Just you wait.” Fu Zhi decided to tolerate her one more time.
Next was Ning Xi’s turn.
Ning Xi: “What sound does an animal make? A cockroach!”
Fu Zhi’s competitive fire instantly died out. He tilted his head in confusion. “Huh? Have you ever heard a cockroach make a sound?”
In the next second, Ning Xi placed a cockroach on the table with her bare hands.
Fu Zhi fell silent for a heartbeat before letting out a high-pitched, explosive scream: “AAAAHHHHHHH-”
Ning Xi pulled back, satisfied. “Exactly. That’s the sound it makes.”
Then she swiftly grabbed a cup of water and splashed it in his face. “But you were late again! Take this!”
His face washed with water, Fu Zhi completely broke down. “Get that cockroach away first!”
Wei Xuan, sitting in the middle of the table, took a serious look at the cockroach and said to Fu Zhi, “It’s a toy. It’s fake.”
Outside the screen.
Niu Xiaocao, who was staying up late to secretly watch the livestream on his phone, saw the familiar cockroach toy and smiled subtly, a silent hero hiding his contribution.
While he didn’t have Niu Xiaohua’s resources to casually gift Ning Xi red lightbulbs from a supermarket, a mere cockroach toy was well within his means!
Fu Zhi steadied his breathing. Even though he had been pushed to the brink of a nervous breakdown, he stubbornly sat back in his seat.
“Continue!”
He had to win a round this turn!
[He’s so bad at this but loves playing so much. It’s enough to bring tears to your eyes.]
Fu Zhi: “What’s in the zoo? A lion!”
Ning Xi quickly followed: “A zebra!”
Fu Zhi: “A crocodile!”
Ning Xi: “A tiger!”
The two went back and forth for over a dozen rounds without a single stumble.
Only Wei Xuan, watching the two of them in their fierce, needle-to-the-marrow battle, spoke up hesitantly:
“Are we even playing the same game anymore? Wasn’t it ‘What sound does an animal make’?”
Ning Xi and Fu Zhi froze for a second.
Ultimately, Ning Xi’s reaction speed was faster. She instinctively splashed a glass of water into Fu Zhi’s face. “You’re causing trouble again!”
Fu Zhi: …
It was his fault this time, so he had to bear it.
After three glasses of water, Fu Zhi’s face and hair were basically soaked through.
Wei Xuan tried to call for a stop to the game.
However, both Fu Zhi and Ning Xi-those two game maniacs-refused. “What’s the point of just having a wet face? You have to be soaked from head to toe!”
Wei Xuan checked the time, feeling like he had boarded a sinking ship tonight.
He let out a shallow breath and was just about to say “start.”
But he realized the two of them had already begun.
Wei Xuan: ?
So his role as the Referee was purely decorative?
This round was Fu Zhi’s turn. “What sound does this animal make? A camel!”
This was an animal he had racked his brains to come up with. There was no way Ning Xi would know the answer!
Sure enough, Ning Xi froze.
Fu Zhi picked up his water glass, ready to avenge his previous humiliation.
Unexpectedly, Ning Xi’s splash was even faster than his movement.
“Ahhh, I’m blocking!”
Ning Xi screamed while splashing the water.
By the time she realized what was happening, she saw she had grabbed the wrong prop-she had picked up the water glass instead of the pot lid.
Fu Zhi wiped the water from his face. “You did that on purpose, didn’t you?!”
Ning Xi scratched her head. “This time it really wasn’t. It was just a conditioned reflex. After all, I’ve been the one splashing you the whole time.”
Fu Zhi was furious. “Fine, it wasn’t this time. Then two months ago when we played the Water Splashing Game, you did it on purpose, right?”
Ning Xi had pulled this exact move once two months ago!
He had clearly won, but Ning Xi still splashed him. He had instinctively grabbed the pot lid to hide, receiving none of the treatment a winner deserved!
Ning Xi reminisced for a moment. “Heehee, you caught me. Who told you your reactions were so slow back then?”
Fu Zhi: “Ning Xi!!!”
Standing to the side, Wei Xuan felt like his eardrums were about to burst.
Only the Danmaku noticed the key detail.
[Two months ago? Holy crap, it looks like Fu Zhi has been splashed more than once.]
[Repeatedly fighting and repeatedly losing… Princess, you really are a simp.]
[So Fu Zhi’s WeChat name ‘Where Did This Simp Come From’ was actually referring to himself!]
The two of them kept playing until nearly ten o’clock.
When they finished, Ning Xi touched her slightly damp face and hair, sighing. “Sigh, I wasn’t in top form today. I actually got splashed.”
Beside her, a completely drenched Fu Zhi stared at Ning Xi with a face full of resentment.
Suddenly, Ning Xi noticed something odd about him.
“Wait, why is your ear so much bigger?”
She grabbed Fu Zhi’s ear. “It looks a bit swollen and red. I’m not sure, let me look closer.”
Fu Zhi was dragged over like a little chick, letting out a hiss of pain.
Yet Ning Xi continued to pinch his ear, studying it seriously.
Fu Zhi cried out in pain, “I’m fine! I’m fine! I! Am! Fine!”
Ning Xi didn’t believe him. “If you’re fine, how did your ear swell up like this?”
Fu Zhi: …
Eventually, Ning Xi discovered the truth.
Fu Zhi’s giant ear was likely the result of two or three mosquito bites.
“Seriously, these mosquitoes worked way too hard.”
She hadn’t noticed them all night.
The miraculous netizens had already found the scene of Fu Zhi being bitten by the mosquitoes through the livestream replay.
[One that was so- big was on Fu Zhi’s ear, and yet he didn’t notice a single thing, hahahaha!]
[He’s turned into Big-Eared Tutu now.]
[Listen here, eighteen-year-old mosquito! I’ll owe you the picture for now.]
[I won’t say anything about this mosquito, because it is kind. [Shakes head]]
[I’m laughing so hard I’m about to snap my poop in half.]
“Hey, why are you so hot?”
Ning Xi twisted Fu Zhi’s ear and found it was excessively warm.
Fu Zhi’s earlobe was bright red. He yanked his head away from Ning Xi’s hand, feeling his head spin. “Mind your own business!”
Then, he stomped off to take a shower in a huff.
Ning Xi shook her head and didn’t think much of it.
Only Wei Xuan was lost in thought. It seemed like Fu Zhi’s expression had been much gloomier than usual since he returned tonight?
While playing the game, although he seemed okay, he felt a bit slower than usual.
Wei Xuan thought it was strange, but he couldn’t figure out why.
It wasn’t until the three of them were preparing to rest for the night, and Ning Xi was about to blissfully drift into dreamland-
The Program Team’s emergency serial calls rang out: “Teacher Ning Xi, Mr. Fu Zhi seems to have a high fever and has fainted. Please come over and take a look!”
