Step one: apologize. Accomplished.

Step two: I wanted to give them a hand.

So I called Jiang Yan.

“Come over for dinner. Otherwise, your future mother-in-law is going to think she’s losing you as a son-in-law.”

Jiang Yan hesitated for a moment, but in the end, he agreed.

Ye Sheng’s mother was delighted. She personally cooked up an entire table of delicious food.

While she was busy in the kitchen, I called Jiang Yan aside.

“Been busy lately?” I asked him.

In his stiff, proper way, he said, “Not too bad.”

“Help me look into someone.”

Jiang Yan frowned instinctively. “Who?”

“Her name is Xie Changli. Chang as in ‘long,’ li as in ‘leave.’ She should be nineteen this year, a sophomore, studying at a university in this city. I don’t know which one exactly.”

Xie Changli was the female lead of this story.

She appeared half a year after Ye Yun’s death.

She entered Song Cheng’s life as a nanny.

Her reason was that she and Ah Yan got along well, and she liked Ah Yan.

So in the development of the male and female leads’ romance, Ye Yun’s son served as a catalyst.

But she was a college student. Instead of taking a proper internship, she ran off to work as a nanny in someone else’s home. That was already unreasonable in itself.

If I had to analyze it, I’d call it a long-planned scheme.

So I wanted to see whether there was a deeper connection between Xie Changli and Song Cheng.

After listening to me, Jiang Yan nodded.

“I’ll get you results as soon as possible.”

Only Ye Sheng herself felt as if a weight had been lifted.

When Song Cheng wanted to divorce her and told her he had fallen for Xie Changli, Ye Sheng only felt relieved.

At last, she could leave with no attachments.

So when it came to Xie Changli, Ye Sheng actually felt the faintest trace of gratitude.

I couldn’t help but let out a breath.

Ye Sheng was one of the rare truly kind souls I had ever met.
