Chapter 6

Liu Xiaoxiao immediately draped a robe over him with gentle care.

“The night is deep and the dew is heavy. Please take care of your health, Marquis.”

Xu Xingzhou’s brow relaxed slightly, and he sighed.

“You are the only one who is truly considerate and understands my needs. If only Wanqiu had even thirty percent of your temperament… we would never have reached this point.”

He didn’t notice Liu Xiaoxiao’s expression darken for a fleeting moment at the mention of Wanqiu’s name.

Liu Xiaoxiao spoke softly, “Sister has a proud and aloof nature, but the Marquis is her husband, after all. She should adhere to the Three Obediences and Four Virtues. How could she defy you time and again?”

It would have been better if she hadn’t spoken; as soon as she did, Xu Xingzhou sneered.

“Proud and aloof? That’s only because I’ve indulged her too much, allowing her to make mistake after mistake without remorse. I am her husband! I am her heaven!”

“If she wanted to beg for help, she should have begged me. Why go and beg some woman far away on the Frontier!”

“It’s just as you said-she needs to be taught a lesson! Now that she’s suffered a bit, she’ll naturally come crawling back to beg me! And that rebellious daughter of hers-once she’s found, she’ll be punished right along with her!”

He asked again, “Does she know she was wrong yet?”

Liu Xiaoxiao sneered inwardly, though she maintained a troubled look on her face.

“Sister is still being stubborn and refuses to speak.”

She was satisfied to hear the sound of things being smashed followed by the man’s furious roar.

However, she still harbored some concerns. “The Frontier woman the Marquis mentioned… is she that Female Rakshasa of the Song Family? I’ve heard she kills without blinking and is utterly ruthless. If the young lady really found her, then she…”

“What would she dare to do?! She’s just a woman! What could she possibly do to me?!”

Nothing much-except that I have already arrived at Jinling City on a fast horse, ready to lop off his dog’s head.

When that loyal old steward was revived, the first thing he did upon seeing me was burst into tears.

“General Song, please, you must seek justice for My Lady!”

He told me that Wanqiu had never stopped writing letters to me.

He said Wanqiu had never been well.

All these years, she had endured endless suffering while being imprisoned within the Marquis’s estate.

To give Suisui a glimmer of hope for survival, she had forced herself to watch Xu Xingzhou and Liu Xiaoxiao’s displays of affection.

First, she had caught a severe cold. Then, when Xu Xingzhou was targeted by an assassin, Liu Xiaoxiao had pushed her forward, and she had taken an arrow meant for him.

Her life force was already spent, yet she was still locked away in a side courtyard without a drop of water. Naturally, she couldn’t hold on.

In her final moments, she clutched that longevity lock, her voice as thin as a thread as she called out:

“Yunying…”

No one knew what she saw in the void during that final moment of clarity.

She only smiled.

“Why did you only just arrive to take me home?”

My heart felt like it was being twisted by a knife.

So, Xu Xingzhou.

Why shouldn’t you die?

You deserve to be-

Torn into ten thousand pieces!

I once saved a pregnant noblewoman. She smiled and told me that once the child was born, they would recognize me as their godmother.

But later, as I led my troops to station at the border,...
