Chapter 2
Chapter 2
The scene fell into a deathly silence.
I stiffly turned my head, looking down at the child clinging to me.
The little girl’s crying was irrational, her snot and tears smearing all over my armor.
She looked as if she had suffered the greatest grievance in the world.
“Mother, Suisui suffered so much to get here! You weren’t there, and they all bullied me!”
“Suisui wants her Mommy! Suisui isn’t a wild child without a mother!”
Her cries were heart-wrenching.
My Deputy General stepped forward, hurrying to pull the child away.
“General, please don’t be angry. I’ll take her away right now! I won’t let her stay in your sight a moment longer!”
She knew my temperament best. Anyone else who had dared to be so presumptuous with me had already been drawn and quartered.
A Living Rakshasa like me wouldn’t soften her heart just because she was facing a child.
But I didn’t move.
And the Deputy General couldn’t pull her away.
The little girl tilted her head up, sobbing and gasping for air.
“Mother, do you really not want Suisui anymore?”
She was just an innocent child, yet her eyes were filled with profound loss.
I reached out and lifted her chin. My heart trembled, but my expression remained cold.
“You say you are my daughter. Who is your father? Do you have proof?”
I, Song Yunying, knew I had offended countless people. A single moment of carelessness would lead to total ruin.
Therefore, I never allowed anyone to get close to me. I made no friends, never married, and had no children. I lived a solitary life, coming and going as I pleased.
Even the men sent to serve me were required to take contraceptive medicine.
She had better give me a good reason, or else…
I looked at that tender, adoring face.
It was as if I were seeing my elder brother’s toddler daughter again.
She, too, had worn little braids, stumbling toward me amidst the laughter of my brother and sister-in-law, opening her arms and calling out in a milky voice:
“Auntie… Auntie…”
Then, the Barbarians came.
My brother and sister-in-law died on the battlefield, and their youngest daughter did not survive.
The child who used to call me “Auntie” in that sweet voice was nothing more than a pale, purpled little face when I tremblingly turned over my sister-in-law’s corpse.
So, how could I not be bloodthirsty? How could I not be cold-blooded?
I, Song Yunying, was meant to be a murderous, solitary soul by nature.
How could there be a child holding onto me right now, calling me Mother?
She answered fluently, “My father is the Marquis of Ning’an. My name is Xu Suisui, and I am Song Yunying’s daughter. Mother, this is the Peace Lock you left for Suisui. It’s supposed to keep Suisui safe and help me live a long life.”
Those small hands reached into her robes and carefully pulled out a tiny longevity lock.
On the front, the words “Peace and Safety” were engraved; on the back, “A Long Life of a Hundred Years” was written in a flourishing hand.
And there, in the corner, was the signature: Song Yunying.
My mind went blank, and I froze.

I once saved a pregnant noblewoman. She smiled and told me that once the child was born, they would recognize me as their godmother.
But later, as I led my troops to station at the border,...
