Chapter 4
Chapter 4
I was diligently reporting about Tao Muxue.
But for some reason, Chu Huai didn’t seem to be listening.
He seemed lost in thought, his expression shifting constantly.
First confusion, then realization, then guilt.
Finally, when he looked at me, his gaze was actually filled with pity.
He said,
“Chen Yu.”
I looked at him.
He sighed, his expression complicated, and said,
“You don’t need to report to me about Tao Muxue anymore.”
I was baffled, but I nodded in agreement.
For the next few days, Chu Huai didn’t seek me out again, nor did he send me any messages.
That day, I was in the study room, studying from morning till evening. When I finished, I planned to go to the cafeteria for some dinner.
But as soon as I left the dormitory building, the next second, someone blocked my way.
I looked up and found it was my younger brother, Chen Mingyao.
He had his hands in his pockets and wore a smile:
“Sis, I heard you’ve latched onto a moneybag recently?”
He stepped closer, closing in on me:
“Give me eight hundred thousand, I want to buy a car. You’re a woman, there’s no need for you to save money. I’ll need a wife in the future.”
I said,
“Haha. I don’t have eight hundred thousand. How about I give you the National Scholarship I just received? The scholarship is eight thousand, plus the money I’ve saved up, that’s eleven thousand three hundred. Will that do?”
He pushed me hard:
“That’s it? The Chu Family didn’t give you any money, right? Figures. An ugly piece like you, Chu Huai would puke just looking at you. He probably can only sleep with you with the lights off. Alright, hurry up and transfer me that eleven thousand three hundred! I’m telling you, sis, if you can’t earn money, go stand on the street corner, okay?”
Not satisfied, he raised his hand to slap me.
But the next second, someone suddenly grabbed his neck from behind and pulled him back in a textbook grappling hold.
The one who grabbed him was Chu Huai.
Chen Mingyao let out choking gasps, going “uhh uhh,” his face turning red.
Chu Huai looked rather impatient. He drove his knee into Chen Mingyao’s lower back and applied pressure. Then I heard a sudden “crack.”
Chen Mingyao’s back bent at an unnatural angle; something was probably fractured.
“Ahhh-!!!”
Chen Mingyao let out a pained scream that made my eardrums ring.
My world seemed to fall into a loud roar.
I suddenly remembered what Tao Muxue had boasted about Chu Huai in the dormitory:
“Our A Huai has been learning combat since he was little. His teacher was a former foreign mercenary, super awesome. Do you all even know what hand-to-hand combat is? Chen Yu, you’ve never seen it in your life, have you?”
The world was roaring, and I looked at Chu Huai.
His features were cold and chiseled, with strong and sharp lines, but his brows and eyes probably took after his mother, especially noble and beautiful.
At this moment, his dark eyes held a few cold stars, filled with a chilly smile. The next second, he released his grip, and Chen Mingyao slid limply to the ground, collapsing at his feet.
Chen Mingyao convulsed on the ground, screaming, unable to even get up.
Chu Huai didn’t even glance at him, kicked him aside, and extended his hand to the side.
Immediately someone handed him a bottle of golden-orange imported liquor.
He raised his hand and poured the entire bottle over Chen Mingyao’s head with an arrogant posture. Chen Mingyao instantly looked like a drowned rat, no longer as arrogant as when he had cursed at me earlier.
Chu Huai crossed his arms and coldly looked down at Chen Mingyao:
“From now on, every time you seek her out, I’ll beat you up. I’ll beat you to death.”
Chen Mingyao’s face twisted in pain as he begged desperately for mercy.
He babbled nonsense like “I won’t do it again,” “My back is broken, it’s really broken,” “Please let me off,” “You’re my grandpa, you’re my ancestor,” and “She’s my grandpa, she’s my ancestor.”
Holy moly, I had just been promoted several generations up the family tree.
Chu Huai seemed too lazy to listen and just pulled me into the car.
