Chapter 5
Chapter 5
My eyes snapped open.
I looked at Jing Sicheng in front of me, somewhat dazed.
“Big Brother, Shuangjiang, what are you two doing?”
Jing Shaochuan walked over slowly.
He carried a paper bag in one hand.
There was even a faint smile on his face.
“B-Big Brother?”
I seemed terrified, flustered as I pushed Jing Sicheng away.
“Shaochuan, I… I mistook him for someone else…”
“Big Brother wasn’t wearing his glasses today. I thought… I thought he was you…”
By the time I finished, my voice was trembling with a sob.
Even the rims of my eyes had turned red.
I stood there awkwardly, my face filled with panic and unease.
Jing Shaochuan yanked me behind him and gave me a sharp glare.
“Zhou Shuangjiang, you’re so stupid it’s a miracle you’re alive. You can’t even recognize your own man.”
“I’m sorry…”
I let out a sob and bit my lip, stealing a glance at Jing Sicheng.
“Big Brother, I’m sorry about just now. I really did mistake you for someone else…”
Jing Sicheng glanced at me. “I don’t blame you. People often confuse twins.”
After saying that, he looked at Jing Shaochuan.
His voice was calm, yet it carried an underlying sense of intimidation.
“Shaochuan, you shouldn’t have been so harsh with her just now.”
Jing Shaochuan gave his usual casual smile. “It’s her own fault for being stupid.”
“She’s shared a bed with me for a year, yet she can’t tell us apart?”
“She and I have only met once,” Jing Sicheng countered. “It’s normal to make a mistake.”
Jing Shaochuan arched an eyebrow. “Fine, I’ll apologize to her.”
Jing Sicheng said nothing more, turned around, and left.
Jing Shaochuan stood in place for a few seconds.
Only then did he slowly turn around.
He shook the paper bag in his hand, his gaze falling calmly on my face.
“Back to the room. Let me see where you’re hurt. I’ll apply some medicine for you.”
I suddenly clenched my palms.
If I wasn’t mistaken…
Jing Shaochuan must have been with another woman last night.
And now he wanted to touch me.
I felt a sudden, uncontrollable wave of nausea.
But I forced it down.
I followed Jing Shaochuan back to the room.
He washed his hands and looked down at me, his gaze cold as ice.
“Take it off. Lie down yourself.”
I trembled slightly, looking at him with feigned confusion and grievance.
“Shaochuan, why are you being so mean to me today?”
In the year we had been together, perhaps it was to deceive me, or perhaps there was a modicum of sincerity in it.
Jing Shaochuan had always been relatively gentle with me.
This was the first time he had spoken to me with such coldness.
“Are you… still angry because I mistook Big Brother for you?”
“No.”
Jing Shaochuan suddenly interrupted me. “You’re overthinking it.”
“I’m just worried about your injury.”
“Is it still bleeding? Let me see.”
His voice returned to its previous gentleness.
Yet I only felt a strange sense of dread.
Actually, when Jing Shaochuan first pursued me, I had always refused him.
I finally agreed to be with him because of fear.
Someone had intentionally told me a story.
Jing Shaochuan had a previous girlfriend.
She was a dancer, very aloof and proud.
Jing Shaochuan had pursued her for a long time before winning her over.
That girl thought she was the true love who would make the playboy change his ways.
After they got together, she became somewhat spoiled and arrogant.
Jing Shaochuan probably did like her quite a bit at first, so he indulged her petty tantrums.
But in less than half a year, he must have grown tired of her.
He soon had a new target.
When the girl found out, she caused a massive scene. She even smashed Jing Shaochuan’s car, making him lose face in front of his friends.
Jing Shaochuan didn’t say anything at the time.
But a few days later, news broke that the girl had accidentally fallen off the stage while practicing.
She survived, but she was left with quadriplegia. Her entire life was ruined.
The person who told me this had also given me a veiled warning.
“Shuangjiang, you should be careful. Don’t actually provoke him.”
“I heard he’s been having people look into your family.”
“A man like Jing Shaochuan isn’t someone people like us can afford to cross, not even with ten lives.”
I was afraid of dying, but I was even more afraid of a fate worse than death.
So, I accepted his pursuit.
After we got together, I was always cautious and meticulous.
For a whole year, Jing Shaochuan treated me very well; he was even seemingly devoted. It was enough that I occasionally had unrealistic dreams.
Occasionally, I became deluded.
But I never imagined…
That after putting myself in such a humble position, the result would be him using me as a bargaining chip to be lost to another man on a whim.
My mind was a chaotic mess.
Jing Shaochuan pressed me down to sit.
He crouched in front of me.
Lowering his eyes, he gently grasped my slender calves and spread them apart.
“You must have seduced me last night. Otherwise, why would I have been so heavy-handed?”
Jing Shaochuan chuckled, lifting his eyes to glance at me.
Only then did he slowly lift the hem of my skirt.
I turned my face away, biting my lip hard.
I endured the churning nausea and disgust in my heart.
Just as he was about to pull away the final thin layer of fabric…
A knock suddenly sounded at the door.
“Shaochuan, come to the study with me for a moment.”
Jing Sicheng’s voice rang out from outside the door.
It carried a heavy authority and a hint of suppressed anger.
