Chapter 4

I had the kitchen prepare my favorite foods.

Halfway through the meal, the sound of a car came from outside.

I put down my knife and fork and walked over to the floor-to-ceiling window.

I saw Jing Sicheng getting out of the car.

In truth, the two of them weren’t actually that difficult to tell apart.

Jing Sicheng was slightly taller than Jing Shaochuan.

His build was also more upright and sturdy.

But he wasn’t wearing glasses.

He wore a black business suit similar in style to Jing Shaochuan’s.

At a quick glance from behind, they still looked very much alike.

I pushed open the door and walked out.

When Jing Sicheng looked over, a sweet, shy smile was already plastered on my face.

I walked toward him with slightly faltering steps. “Shaochuan, where’s my medicine?”

Jing Sicheng looked down at me.

He didn’t deny it immediately.

I wrapped my arms around his, then started feeling around in his pockets.

“Where did you hide the ointment?”

When I reached for his trouser pocket, he suddenly caught my hand.

“What ointment?” he asked, his voice somewhat husky.

I stamped my foot. “Stop pretending. Didn’t I tell you? You hurt me last night…”

Jing Sicheng didn’t respond.

However, his Adam’s apple, framed by a shirt collar buttoned meticulously to the top, bobbed violently once more.

He seemed a bit restless, his brow furrowing slightly.

He raised a hand to loosen his tie.

Only then did he look down at me again. “I just remembered-I need to see the injury before I can tell the doctor what ointment we need.”

“Jing Shaochuan!” My face instantly flushed with embarrassment.

Jing Sicheng’s gaze swept from the side of my neck to my chest.

It lingered inch by inch over those crimson hickeys.

A fire seemed to burn in the depths of his eyes.

That fire felt as if it were scorching me too.

It was so intense that I could barely withstand it.

“What’s there to be shy about… Zhou Shuangjiang, it’s not like I haven’t seen it before.”

“I’m done talking to you!”

I glared at him in annoyance and turned to leave.

Jing Sicheng, however, gripped my wrist tightly. “Alright, I’m done teasing you.”

He pulled me into his arms, my back pressing against his solid chest.

We were flush against each other, without a gap between us.

He lowered his head, his jaw brushing against the hair near my ear, his breath scalding.

He seemed to want to kiss me, and I instinctively closed my eyes…

But right then, the sound of a car rang out again.

Jing Sicheng and I turned our heads simultaneously.

We saw a black car speeding toward us.

Before it had even come to a full stop, the door was thrown open from the inside.

Jing Shaochuan stepped out of the car, staring at Jing Sicheng and me as we held each other tightly.

He stood motionless, his face a mask of coldness, as if covered in frost.
