Chapter 7
“Sun Guangxin went this way just now!”
Ren Song pointed to a narrow path beside the supermarket. The houses behind it were clearly empty, without a single light on inside.
I switched on my flashlight and led the way in.
The moment we entered that path, even the sound of the wind outside seemed to fade. For a moment, it really felt like we had stepped into some village.
The little gates and courtyards were all complete, but they were far too dilapidated.
“Who’s there?” Liu Xun suddenly cried out.
Several beams from our flashlights swept over, and we saw Liu Xun leap aside like a startled rabbit.
There was a window where he had just passed. Through it, we could vaguely make out the furnishings inside the house.
“I… I just felt like there was someone in there!” Liu Xun’s voice was trembling.
Ren Song probably wanted to look brave, but he only shone his flashlight at the window and didn’t dare take a single step closer.
“I’ll take a look.” I told them to move their lights away, then walked over myself.
Behind the dust-coated window was a very empty room. It didn’t even have basic partitions, as if no one had considered what it would be used for when it was built.
But in that huge empty room sat a rocking chair, and something seemed to be draped over it.
I wiped the dust off the window and looked inside again. This time, I saw it clearly.
The thing on the rocking chair was that Blue Cloth Gown!
It was bulging, as if it might stand up at any moment.
“There’s no one here. Let’s go.”
My instincts told me that if we stayed any longer, something was going to happen.
After the fright Liu Xun had just gotten, he was more than ready to leave at once.
The four of us turned around, only to find that the alley we had entered just a few steps ago had become impossibly long.
So long that the bright lights of the parking lot could barely reach inside anymore.
“Don’t think about it-run!”
I was at the back, urging everyone to sprint forward.
There had clearly only been three rows of three houses before, but now who knew how many more had appeared. Faint sounds surged toward us from every direction.
I drew the Soul-Whip from my waist.
This Soul-Whip had been given to me when I was a child by the Mad Taoist, whom I had saved by chance.
Back then, he said to me, “You have the face of an asura and the heart of a bodhisattva. In this life, you’re destined to earn your living between yin and yang.”
I had spent half my life dealing with baleful forces, and in the last two years, I had run into especially many strange incidents. It was almost as if the old Taoist’s words had truly come to pass.
The Soul-Whip sliced through the air.
Crack! Crack! Crack!
After those three snaps, the alley mouth that had seemed unreachable just moments ago was suddenly right in front of us.
The four of us rushed out in one breath.
