Chapter 3
Chapter 3
He had made himself perfectly clear. In the past, we had all thought Liu Xun was just a little arrogant because he had stayed in school a few more years than the rest of us.
Now it seemed that wasn’t the case at all. Unlike the impulsive, reckless Wang Cheng of the past, Liu Xun was rotten to the core.
From the moment he dragged Wang Cheng into this trip, he had already planned everything out.
He had taken the job at a low price. If they reached their destination safely, then this trip would both complete the Chongsha and deliver the cargo in one go, killing two birds with one stone and cutting his costs in half.
And if something really did go wrong, it wouldn’t just be the insurance company cleaning up his mess. Peng You and I would have to wipe his ass for him too.
Even if not for his sake, for Wang Cheng’s sake, there was no way we could just stand by and do nothing…
Liu Xun looked utterly confident. Standing behind his men, he watched Peng You and me with calm composure.
Peng You was being held back at the side, shouting for his men to grab their tools. He swore he was going to teach these little punks a lesson today.
Liu Xun’s men had just suffered a loss, and now their mouths were running filthy.
Seeing both sides on the verge of blows, I raised a hand to stop everyone and walked into the center of the crowd.
I was born with an unusual appearance. I looked frightening, and my build was far too tall and burly.
As I walked over, my mountain-like shadow pressed down with me. Everyone subconsciously backed away.
Liu Xun noticed the fear in his men’s faces, and his arrogance dimmed somewhat. After a moment’s thought, he began, “As for the hardship fee, it’s not like we can’t-”
“We have our own rules for Chongsha.”
I cut Liu Xun off directly. “I don’t care about your cargo trucks. Whether anyone can be saved depends on fate. I only handle clearing the road. Once the road is cleared, not one cent of the commission can be missing. If we manage to save someone or find the trucks, the hardship fee is calculated separately.”
The moment Liu Xun heard that, his expression changed.
I continued, “You can refuse to pay too. I’ll still try to save Wang Cheng. But whether I can save him or not, I won’t drive the truck to Huayu Port. If I can force that road open, I can also take people back the way we came.”
“When that happens, what becomes of your trucks and your people will depend on your own fate.”
It wasn’t as if Liu Xun didn’t know the rules. His father must have told him before. In Chongsha, turning back before reaching the end was extremely dangerous. The danger wasn’t limited to the people performing the Chongsha; it also affected that road.
If I took Wang Cheng and turned back, then his trucks and the other people in them might end up just like the accident that happened on Huai Mountain before-vanishing completely, with no way to find them again.
The people following Liu Xun all turned to look at him. Whether they had believed in this stuff before or not, what had happened right in front of them was very real.
Four living, breathing lives were at stake, and two of them were people who usually called Liu Xun their brother.
If Liu Xun really refused to save them, who would still be willing to follow him in the future?
Besides, if those two heavy trucks disappeared in broad daylight just like that, the insurance company wouldn’t pay out so easily either.
And once the client came after him, his entire company wouldn’t be enough to compensate for it.
