Chapter 6
Chapter 6
I bought an apartment just outside Xu Sixian’s university.
I had his fingerprint registered for the lock, but he usually only came over when I called him. Occasionally, if the library was full and he needed a place to study, he would still ask for my permission in advance.
I found it strange. “The point of registering your fingerprint was so you could come whenever you wanted. Why do you still ask for my consent every time?”
Xu Sixian replied that it was my house. If I was inside and he showed up without a word, it would be very impolite.
I don’t like people who preach principles.
But he was the Little Tree I was nurturing. His voice was pleasant, and his tone was always gentle.
So, I let him be.
The apartment was cleaned regularly by a service, and since no one stayed overnight, it was usually spotless.
However, the kitchen showed many signs of use.
Ever since the first time I mentioned that Xu Sixian’s cooking was delicious, he had been coming over frequently to prepare meals for me.
The stove clicked as the burner lit, followed by the rhythmic sound of vegetables being chopped.
Before dinner, Xu Sixian handed me a fruit platter.
The honeydew melon was freshly sliced, emitting a sweet fragrance. He had peeled the grapes to reveal their translucent, crystalline flesh, and even the white pith on the orange segments had been meticulously removed.
The good mood that Cheng Song had spoiled earlier returned. I speared a piece of melon with a fork. “Come here.”
“What is it?” He wiped the water droplets from his hands. “Are you hungry? I’ll try to be as quick as I can.”
I held the melon out to his lips.
Xu Sixian instinctively took a bite, then froze.
A hint of a smile rippled through his eyes.
He said, “Thank you, Miss.”
He didn’t seem to find anything wrong with this behavior at all.
I certainly didn’t see a problem either. I accepted his thanks as a matter of course and fed him a grape as well.
Once he returned to the kitchen, I focused all my attention on enjoying my pre-dinner fruit.
Sweet.
Dinner tonight was lavish. Although the ingredients weren’t as exorbitantly expensive as those used by the chefs at home, I wasn’t picky.
“Miss, could you give me one of your bank account numbers?” Xu Sixian suddenly asked at the dinner table.
Before I could even ask why, he proactively confessed, “I received payment for the promotional photos. I want to transfer it to you.”
I looked at him. “Do you think I’m poorer than you?”
“That’s not what I meant.” Xu Sixian served me some chicken soup, carefully skimming off the fat floating on the surface, his voice gentle. “Right now, I eat your food, stay in your house, and use your things. I have nowhere to spend money, so I should give everything I earn to you. You can help me spend it.”
He certainly knew how to talk.
The irritation that had just begun to surface in my heart was instantly smoothed away.
I thought for a moment. “Then just leave it with me.”
I would have my father’s most trusted investment manager handle the money for him and give it back once it had multiplied a few times.
Xu Sixian smiled at me, as refreshing as a cool breeze under a bright moon. “Thank you, Miss.”
I didn’t lack money and had always been generous.
I was always in a good mood when I was with Xu Sixian. In the past, if Cheng Song made me feel good, I wouldn’t hesitate to give him whatever resources he needed-though those were always things he brought up indirectly.
But Xu Sixian never asked me for anything. He only took what I gave him.
I thought to myself, *He doesn’t even know how to proactively rake in money.*
I would have to think of ways to help him so he wouldn’t stay so poor.
I said, “Will you be getting a scholarship this year?”
“Yes,” Xu Sixian said. “Once it arrives, can I leave that with you as well, Miss?”
His dark eyes were as clear as a spring.
I swallowed the beef in my mouth and said slowly, “Fine.”
I would add some of my own money to his scholarship to make the principal a lucky number before handing it over to the wealth manager.
After dinner, I gave Xu Sixian a card.
I had given him a debit card with one million on it before, but he had never used it. He probably didn’t even know how much was in there.
This time, I gave him a black card from the He Group.
“My family owns many businesses where this card can be used. For example, the shopping center across from your university-everything inside is free if you swipe this card,” I said. “If anyone doesn’t recognize it, call me.”
He stunned for a few seconds.
“Miss.”
I didn’t know when he had stopped calling me Miss He and started just calling me Miss.
Xu Sixian sighed. “You’re so good to me, it’s easy to make someone…”
He seemed to be searching for the right words to describe it.
After thinking for a long while, he came up with: “…become spoiled and arrogant.”
I thought to myself, *I’m surrounded by too many people who abuse their power. How could someone as gentle as Xu Sixian ever become arrogant?*
He knelt down halfway to help me put on the slippers I had kicked off under the table. “It makes one want to push their luck.”
I looked at him curiously. “You’re allowed to be spoiled and arrogant. You can push your luck as much as you want.”
I had the capability to ensure my Little Tree received the most brilliant sunshine and the most nourishing rain in the world.
“Because you are mine.”
