To my surprise, Yan Xun didn’t do anything illegal out of spite after his failed confession, as I had imagined he might.

On the contrary, he had spent the entire day working diligently.

During a business dinner that evening, after several rounds of drinks, his client suggested taking him out for some “fun.”

Yan Xun was quite drunk and followed along in a daze.

It wasn’t until someone started unzipping his pants in a private lounge that he suddenly snapped awake.

“I didn’t know that client liked men, and the place he took me to was full of men… I panicked in the moment, so I called the police.”

The result was that he ended up getting himself hauled in as well.

“The client said he’s not done with me,” Yan Xun said, looking like he was about to cry. “My boss is supposed to be here any minute…”

“Your boss?” A bad premonition suddenly rose in my heart. “Which… which boss?”

“It’s…”

Before he could finish, he suddenly stood up and walked past me with teary eyes.

“President Shao, you’re here.”

After not seeing him for half a year, Shao Yuhan hadn’t changed a bit.

He was still as unpredictable as ever, appearing like a ghost.

I didn’t really want to face him, so I pulled my hat lower and tried to make myself as small as possible in the corner.

He efficiently handled the follow-up matters with the police and remorselessly saw to it that the client was sent to the detention center.

Through the window, I heard him comforting Yan Xun. “Don’t panic if you encounter something like this in the future. The company will always prioritize the personal safety of its employees.”

“And don’t drink so much during business dinners.”

Yan Xun sniffled. “I’m sorry, President Shao. It’s just that my confession was rejected and I was in a bad mood, so…”

“Love is inherently unpredictable. It’s a low-probability event for the person you like to happen to like you back,” he said, sounding like a gentle and understanding elder as he patiently counseled Yan Xun. “There are many girls in the world; there’s bound to be someone who suits you.”

“Some things simply shouldn’t be forced.”

Eavesdropping from the side, I felt a slight sense of relief.

This was the first time I’d heard Shao Yuhan speak like a decent human being.

It was actually a bit hard to get used to.

“By the way,” Shao Yuhan suddenly asked, “where is your family?”

Yan Xun snapped out of his daze and hurriedly pointed toward me. “Ah, over there.”

Shao Yuhan looked toward me, following the direction of his finger.

And at that exact moment, I happened to turn my head.
