Chapter 1
Chapter 1
The zipper on the backpack hadn’t been closed properly.
Loose chocolates spilled all over the floor.
“Who was that?! Who dares talk to me like that?”
The young woman shouted, both furious and startled.
But no one answered.
Because every eye around her had fallen on the chocolates scattered across the ground.
The sound of people swallowing rang out one after another.
“Chocolate. That’s a whole backpack full of chocolate…”
“I checked it with my mental power. It’s real! Not an illusion!”
They surged forward, scrambling over one another in a chaotic grab for it.
No one paid the slightest attention to the young woman’s question.
She bit her lip, grabbed the arm of the man beside her, and shook it back and forth.
“Brother, look at them!”
The man frowned.
In a low voice, he said, “No snatching.”
“All supplies are to be turned in and stored in Lanlan’s space. She will distribute them uniformly. Have you all forgotten the team’s rules?”
At his words, the others finally stopped.
The girl called Lanlan giggled and walked over, beginning to confiscate the chocolates in their hands.
A faint blue light flickered in her palm.
A spatial ability.
And from beginning to end,
Lin Ran, my best friend standing to the side with a pale face, never once looked at the food.
She only stared fixedly at me.
Her trembling voice was filled with disbelief. “Lu Zhao, is that you? Are you still alive?”
She rushed over and wrapped her arms around me in a crushing hug.
I was a little dazed, but I still almost instinctively patted her on the back. “Is my name Lu Zhao?”
“You don’t remember?”
She released me, her hands searching me up and down as she cried and laughed at the same time.
“Back then, the director said you’d been adopted. I asked who took you, but he refused to tell me no matter what. Later, I tried looking for you, but I couldn’t find you anywhere…”
As she rambled on, I remained silent.
Of course she couldn’t find me.
Because for the past ten years, I had been kept in a top-secret underground laboratory.
Subjected to experiments meant to develop the limits of human supernatural abilities.
My brain had been opened so many times I had lost count, implanted with countless chips and injected with countless drugs.
My memories and emotions had all grown blurred.
I didn’t even remember my own name.
I only vaguely remembered this:
Before I was sent away to take part in the experiments, I had a good friend named Lin Ran.
She… loved me very much.
