Chapter 130
Chapter 130
The incense in the west wing first clouded the mind, then paralyzed the nerves.
Any player exposed for long would approach total paralysis within ten minutes.
So Xiao Huai bit his tongue without hesitation, using pain to keep his mind awake.
Once the mind fell, even the strongest body became meat awaiting slaughter.
Edwin said, “You’re clever.”
The moon reflected in his eyes. Clouds veiled the crescent, darkening both moonlight and his gaze.
The night sky had changed, yet it seemed more as though moonlight followed his mood.
His gaze rested on Xiao Huai’s collarbone, then slowly rose.
Against Xiao Huai’s pale skin, even the faint throb of his pulse seemed magnified to vampire eyes whenever he breathed, tugging at their instinctive thirst.
Edwin pressed his lips together and swallowed faintly. “Your blood is delicious. Even I fear losing control.”
Like a hound catching a clue, Xiao Huai suddenly stepped closer and deliberately exposed his neck less than an inch away.
“Why not taste it, my lord?”
He drew out the words. His indolent “my lord” held no respect, only mockery.
Edwin’s gaze darkened. He seized Xiao Huai’s arms, nose nearly touching his neck, cold fangs one breath from piercing skin.
One bite would let him drink freely.
But he stopped and frowned. “Has anyone told you how mischievous you are?” He released Xiao Huai and stepped back.
Xiao Huai’s arms ached, but his expression revealed nothing.
“Have they?” he asked deliberately.
Edwin laughed low and cold.
“I’ll enjoy your blood once you belong to me completely.”
Belonged to him completely.
Xiao Huai noted the phrase. What did it mean?
Why would the strongest being in the instance restrain a vampire’s instinct and refuse his blood?
Edwin had announced this as Xiao Huai’s funeral, meaning he was determined to obtain him.
If Edwin drank his blood, would something happen–
A variable, perhaps.
Once Xiao Huai belonged completely to him, Edwin could drink without that variable.
Suppose Xiao Huai were a god who wanted to possess someone completely.
He would offer hope of escape, then personally crush it and claim them in that moment.
Would it not be effortless?
Xiao Huai noticed the incense fading, and light flashed in his eyes.
It was almost nine.
Edwin also sensed something and moved past Xiao Huai into the darkness.
Xiao Huai said, “You can’t keep me.”
Edwin looked back. Xiao Huai met his gaze fearlessly. “No one can.”
Edwin smiled, vicious light gleaming in his green eyes. “You may try.”
Xiao Huai walked forward into his oppressive stare.
He remained calm. Perhaps the Xiao Huai who first entered the horror game would have feared him.
But he had now seen countless dangers, and the one person who truly provoked his instincts no longer frightened him.
Why should meeting Edwin’s eyes scare him?
Xiao Huai said, “Trial and error has a price. I’m poor. Why don’t you cover it for me, my lord?”
Edwin turned, intrigued. “Is that why you came?”
Xiao Huai produced the room card and spun it like a playing card.
“Didn’t you already agree?” His smile engraved itself in Edwin’s eyes.
For an instant, Edwin wanted to seize him immediately, but that would be dull.
He loved watching humans run back to him at their most desperate. Becoming their only salvation was always exhilarating.
He would wait.
“What do you want?” he asked.
Edwin had watched Xiao Huai’s livestream. Victoria had already been tricked into giving away her blessing.
Never wager with a gambler. A cornered gambler’s madness could shake even gods.
Especially Xiao Huai.
This little lunatic might do things that chilled even divine hearts.
“I won’t gamble with you,” Edwin added.
Xiao Huai raised a brow. Edwin knew him well.
Through the Gods’ Livestream, exposure was both blessing and curse.
A god plotting against him in advance was truly troublesome.
Xiao Huai chuckled. “I haven’t spoken. Why assume I want a wager?”
“Then what do you want?” Edwin countered.
Xiao Huai looked calmly at him. Though smiling, his eyes held no mirth, only an entire hidden night.
“I want–” He raised his hand lazily toward Edwin.
“To become your follower.”
Edwin froze. He was no fool and saw no devotion in Xiao Huai’s words.
Yet his heart accelerated uncontrollably.
He was excited.
His gaze fell on Xiao Huai’s offered hand, and he wanted to take it.
Xiao Huai smiled and withdrew it again, like teasing a cat.
“You’re terribly disobedient,” Edwin said. “No human has ever dared joke with me like this.”
Xiao Huai lowered his eyes and voice, his tone unexpectedly seductive.
“My lord, I’m not joking.” He stepped close, placed a hand atop Edwin’s, and pressed it against his own heart.
Edwin’s palm lay over Xiao Huai’s strongly beating heart.
Xiao Huai frowned faintly, sudden sincerity filling his eyes. “Listen, my lord. My heart beats for you. I had no faith before, but I yearn for it. Do you… truly refuse to become my faith?”
His lashes trembled over eyes not merely beautiful but dangerously beguiling, fanning flames that made hearts quake.
Edwin stared for a long time. So did the followers secretly watching nearby.
But one observer among them was no follower. Leaning in a corner, he had ink-black eyes like a perilous abyss no one dared face.
He raised those eyes and silently watched Xiao Huai and Edwin.
