Chapter 127
Chapter 127
Rooms appeared at the corridor’s end, each door bearing a number matching a name tag.
Each room measured only two square meters, their doors pressed together like coffin chambers.
One hundred rooms crowded the corridor.
Xiao Huai went straight to No. 100. Xiao Qian asked, “Should I wait outside or come look?”
“Follow if you want to see,” Xiao Huai replied.
“Aren’t you worried I’m a vampire?”
The system had offered no way to identify them. They could hardly accuse everyone with a pale face.
“Are you a vampire?”
Xiao Qian had not expected such a direct question.
It felt as though Xiao Huai were playing along with his performance.
Xiao Qian shook his head, somewhat speechless. “No.”
He had only meant to tease him, but Xiao Huai seemed unconcerned from the beginning about who was vampire or human. The factions meant nothing to him.
He opened the door, and Xiao Qian followed, unable to resist his curiosity.
A black room card lay on the white sheet.
Player rooms did not require hotel-style key cards.
Xiao Huai picked it up. A message was written on the back.
[Ten tonight. I’ll wait in the west wing.]
Xiao Qian whistled and teased, “This doesn’t feel like a horror-game routine. Xiao Huai, has something taken an interest in your body?”
Xiao Huai frowned.
Xiao Qian thought he had touched a sore point. Beautiful people often suffered harassment and usually hated the subject.
But Xiao Huai raised his eyes, utterly sincere confusion within them.
“My body? Does it want to drink my blood? Does my blood taste good? What’s wrong with me?”
The questions stunned Xiao Qian. Xiao Huai had been given a room card, and all he imagined was bloodsucking?
Even a vampire could drink blood anywhere. Did he truly not understand the key card’s implication?
The purity in Xiao Huai’s eyes made Xiao Qian feel filthy, as though his dirty mind tainted everything.
Soon, though, he concluded that Xiao Huai was simply an emotional idiot.
Xiao Huai would never think that way, and explaining might disrupt his strategy.
So Xiao Qian said, “Maybe it just wants to eat you.”
“Oh?” Xiao Huai raised a brow. “Many people want to eat me.”
“What?!” Xiao Qian’s eyes widened. “What happened afterward?”
Xiao Huai did not understand. What afterward? Who could actually eat his flesh?
He had no interest in being bitten apart by monsters. What was there to say?
“I’m still waiting for them to eat me.”
Xiao Qian swallowed. “Them? There can be that many? Ha. Ha… hahaha.”
Xiao Huai solemnly put away the card and considered. “If I were a monster, I’d eat my hands first, then my head, and save my heart for last. My heart probably wouldn’t taste good. It might be bitter.”
Xiao Qian wanted to slap himself. Xiao Huai truly had meant it literally.
“Oh… Then you really should be careful,” he muttered.
Watching Xiao Huai pocket the card, he still asked, “Will you go?”
Xiao Huai collapsed bonelessly onto the bed and closed his eyes. “Of course. Why not? I have nothing else to do today.”
“I’ll come with you.”
He genuinely feared naive Xiao Huai might meet disaster.
“Why?”
“High-ranking gods are capable of anything… They’re lunatics.” Xiao Qian lowered his voice. Remembering the four gods in the hall darkened his mood and expression.
Even with his eyes closed, Xiao Huai heard his displeasure. “Don’t worry. I’m a lunatic too.”
He laughed softly, laziness overlaying something dark and violent.
“Xiao Qian.” At his name, Xiao Qian looked down. “What?”
“You’ve met the Lord of Tianfan before, haven’t you?”
Xiao Qian froze. He had thought Xiao Huai failed to notice.
His mind had stalled briefly at the sight of those eyeballs.
For one instant, his expression had slipped.
But even that single second had not escaped Xiao Huai.
He seemed indifferent to everyone, yet captured every detail with perfect clarity.
The more Xiao Qian considered him, the more Xiao Huai seemed born for the game.
Being his enemy might be truly terrifying.
“Mm,” Xiao Qian answered, the air around him heavy.
Xiao Huai rolled onto his side. Soft afternoon light fell through the window onto his cheek. His loose, thin black shirt draped over the bed, exposing a broad stretch of skin at his collarbone. He looked fragile yet untouchably distant.
His lashes trembled.
Xiao Qian expected more, but Xiao Huai’s breathing deepened until he murmured, “Close the curtains before you leave.”
Xiao Qian: “…”
Xiao Huai asked nothing else about the Lord of Tianfan.
No one wished to display their wounds.
Even though Xiao Huai had noticed Xiao Qian’s abnormal eye immediately, he would not ask what happened.
That scar belonged to the past.
He would neither ask nor speak of it. Unless someone willingly told him, what right did he have to pry?
Xiao Qian soon closed the curtains as requested.
As he reached the door, he heard Xiao Huai say softly behind him,
“Nothing will happen while I’m here…”
Already half asleep and facing away, Xiao Huai mumbled, “I’m your benefactor, after all.”
Xiao Qian’s hand froze on the handle. The words struck his heart, making even his bones tighten.
He smiled and shook his head as he left.
Only after walking away did he murmur, “No wonder that foolish little brother of mine likes you so much.”
* * *
When Xiao Huai woke, he had to admit that although the rooms in the *Vampires* instance were tiny, the beds were wonderfully comfortable.
If hunger had not woken him, he could have slept longer.
The system showed only eight at night. His appointment was still far off.
But noise filled the corridor.
“He has to die! If we don’t kill him, do you want him to lose control and kill us? Heh.”
