Chapter 129
Chapter 129
The moment Xiao Huai entered, cold, serpentine gazes crawled over him.
He looked up and saw them reclining elegantly, chins raised as they assessed him.
They sneered down at him.
Ignoring them, Xiao Huai approached a table of food. Just as he picked up his chopsticks, soft laughter sounded.
The food vanished like steam.
Whichever table he approached, its food disappeared.
There was no question who was responsible.
Anyone else would have left–or fled the moment they saw these gods.
But Xiao Huai stood and walked directly to their table.
Ling Chen inhaled deeply, greedily capturing Xiao Huai’s scent.
Their table held every delicacy. Apart from the Mad Hatter playing with cake, nothing had been touched.
There were four chairs. The Lord of Tianfan had not come, so only three were occupied.
Ling Chen patted the empty chair beside him, inviting Xiao Huai to sit.
Xiao Huai walked forward under his gaze.
Ling Chen liked obedient humans. They were easier to play with.
Qi Sha watched expressionlessly, then paused when she lifted her eyes.
Xiao Huai’s black hair stirred in the breeze of his steps. He tilted his head casually, hair sweeping behind his ears, a perfectly gentle smile on his lips.
But a bottomless frozen abyss hid within his dark red eyes.
Cold and without desire.
Even the Mad Hatter’s gaze darkened.
Half a meter away, Xiao Huai looked over them and said lazily,
“You’re not eating? Then I’ll take this.”
He swiped an apple from their table and took a bite, its juice staining his soft pink lips.
Without looking back, he left three wide-eyed gods behind.
“Ha… ha.” Ling Chen covered his eyes and laughed before looking over the food.
The Mad Hatter was amused rather than angry. “Not afraid at all. Perhaps we aren’t frightening enough.”
Ling Chen stood and took an apple. “He walked straight over without showing weakness. I’ve never seen a human like him.”
He had taken their apple, yet his indifference made their prank the true joke.
Their target had not cared.
Though outwardly calm, Qi Sha felt waves rise within her. “I’m beginning to anticipate his performance.”
The Mad Hatter cut his cake, red sauce bursting from it like crushed organs.
Crimson spread through white like ink on paper. He wiped the sauce from his hand.
He murmured, “Will Edwin let him leave so easily?”
Even if they gave Xiao Huai coins, he lacked time.
They were not the true boss.
* * *
Moonlight cast silver over a lake, dew sparkling on grass tips.
This was an ancient castle.
Xiao Huai descended the stairs. The first floor was empty as an unfinished shell.
Not one brick covered the ground. Weeds grew freely and wildflowers bloomed.
Pale blue flowers twined gently around grass in the breeze, overlapping as tender buds emerged like dew beneath the rising sun.
Across the endless green field, wisteria inevitably drew Xiao Huai’s attention.
It was strikingly out of place.
The vines tangled into a line as though guiding him.
Within a minute, he found them wrapped around a jade stone.
The immovable stone was driven into the earth and carved with the words [West Wing].
It also bore a directional marker.
The west wing entrance was hidden in a castle corner, but the stone led him there easily.
It was not yet ten, but nothing stopped him from exploring.
The moment he entered the west wing, he smelled faint blood, a dizzying sweetness mingling with rust. His heart tightened.
Something was wrong with the scent.
He covered his nose with the web of his hand, but the sweetness invaded instantly.
A broken spring seemed to squeal endlessly inside his mind.
“You shouldn’t have come so early.”
A young woman’s voice sounded.
Moonlight fell over Follower No. 3’s white dress. Though her face was clean, Xiao Huai smelled sedative incense and blood on her.
Follower No. 3 said, “This is our feeding time. Without His Lordship’s protection, you’re in danger.”
“Have I met that lord before?” Xiao Huai ignored her warning and approached.
“How would I know?” She frowned, retreating as though restraining herself.
Xiao Huai raised a brow. “Are you craving my body?”
“Huh? What are you talking about?” She looked baffled.
“My blood. I can’t smell it myself. Do you think it tastes good?”
For some reason, Follower No. 3 relaxed at his answer. Before she could respond, she dropped respectfully to her knees and called reverently toward the Moon God behind him,
“My lord.”
Thick white lashes framed the man who appeared before Xiao Huai in an instant.
He bent slightly, long golden hair falling like silk behind his ears. A strand brushed Xiao Huai’s cheek in the wind.
Xiao Huai tried to retreat but could not move. From his toes upward, his limbs prickled as though bitten by insects, his nerves paralyzed.
Edwin’s brows curved. Cold light and teasing filled his green eyes.
Silence enveloped them. Follower No. 3 wisely teleported away.
Edwin leaned closer. Though Xiao Huai’s body was paralyzed, he could tilt his head slightly aside.
His collarbone flickered at his shirt’s edge, moonlight outlining his fragile-looking neck and provoking a mad desire to destroy and possess.
Xiao Huai breathed shallowly, posture relaxed.
When Edwin was inches from his neck, Xiao Huai suddenly raised his eyes, brows easing and a lazy smile touching his lips.
“Are you done?”
Edwin stopped as their eyes met–
Xiao Huai’s gaze hooked firmly into his soul.
Then Xiao Huai slowly stepped back. Edwin raised a brow, curious how this weak human could move.
Xiao Huai smiled. Between parted lips, the tip of his tongue showed crimson blood. He stuck it out playfully and whispered,
“Your sedative is too weak. Use something stronger next time.”
